1. Language targets 语言目标
1. Key Words and expressions
Words: save, forget, cut, kill, flag, place, water, danger, tree, down, over, ivory.
Useful expressions: get lost, be in (great) danger, cut down, (be) made of
2. Sentence Structures
1) The elephants is one of Thailand's symbols.
2) Let's save the Elephants.
3) But elephants are in great danger.
4) People also kill elephants for their ivory.
5) We must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory.
2. Ability goals 能力目标
1). 教会学生根据文本结构和内容选择恰当的标题和段落大意,意在培养学生快速阅读和归纳语篇中心的能力;
2). 通过整篇的阅读回答问题,培养学生回答问题的能力;
3). 帮助学生通过模仿文段朗读,初步形成意群的概念,并在朗读时能够正确地停顿;
4). 渗透构建思维导图( Mind map)并利用思维导图进行文本复述的策略,帮助学生将零碎的信息分类整理成与主题密切相关,又相对独立的块状知识,这不仅有助于学生深入理解语篇,抓住重要信息,而且能够增强学生的思维能力,提升注意力和记忆力,启发联想力和创造力;
5).最后通过学生的笔头输出,培养了学生写的能力。

1) 通过读前视频的观看以及讨论和交流,让学生了解一些世界珍稀动物。
2) 通过文本内容的学习,唤起学生保护保护动物的意识,倡导学生做自己力所能及的事情来关爱动物,关爱自然。

Step1. Leading-in and warming-up 引入与激趣活动
Get Ss to watch the videos and the pictures about endangered animals (T asked Ss to search the Internet for the videos and prepare for the presentation in groups of four).
Step2. Pre-reading. 读前预测

Test1. Get the students to read the word and the phrases orally.
Test2. Translate the phrases into Chinese.
Step3.While-reading. 读中理解

Read the passage quickly and answer some questions.

TASK 2 . Read 2b and match the headings with the paragraphs. 阅读2b,连线每段段落大意。

Paragraph 3 C. Elephants are important in Thailand

] 2. Careful reading (scanning)
Read the passage carefully and answer the following five questions.
1).Who wrote this passage
2).Why are elephants important in Thailand
3).Elephants are smart. What can they do
4).What happens to elephants now
5).What can we do for them
3. Read aloud. Standing on the writer’s shoes, read the passage loudly and sentimentally by themselves !
Step4. Post-reading.读后巩固
Read the passage again, and complete the mind map to retell the paragraphs with your own words.
Ⅰ. Read Paragraph 1 in 2b and have a try to retell Paragraph 1 according to the mind map that the teacher gave you.
Ⅱ. Read Paragraph 2 in 2b and retell Paragraph 2 according to the mind map that the teacher gave you.
Ⅲ. Read Paragraph 3 in 2b and draw your own mind map in group of four, then retell Paragraph 3 according to it.
Get the students to prepare for retelling in groups. Then ask several groups to show their retelling work in front of the whole class.

Ss: We should protect them and tell people not to kill them.
T: You are right. We should love animals and protect them.
No trading, no killing!(设计意图:把学习的知识运用到生活中,教育学生要爱护并保护动物。)
