I. Analysis of the Teaching Material
This lesson is the fifth period in Section B Unit 5 Why do you like pandas It is taken from PEP Junior English For China, Grade 7 Column Two. This lesson focuses on speaking and writing. In this lesson, the students learn to talk about animals. The topic is interesting. So the students are willing to take part in the class activities. After studying this lesson, the students will know how to describe some kinds of animals and . Students will also have the awareness to protect the animals.
Ⅱ. Analysis of students
As for the students of Grade 7, they have learned some words about animals and they have had some basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writhing. But they still have some difficulty in using English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students aren’t active in class because they are afraid of making mistakes.
Ⅲ. Three Dimensional Goals
1. Knowledge goals:
a. To get the students to learn the useful new words and expressions in
this lesson.
b. To let the students master how to describe animals.
2. Ability goals:
a. To enable the students to learn how to talk about their favorite animals
b. To improve the students’ listening and speaking abilities .
3. Emotional goals:
To call on the students to try their best to protect the animals.
Ⅳ. Teaching Key and Difficult Points
1. Key points:
a. Get the students to know how to describe animals.
b. Get the students to grasp how to express their likes and dislikes.
2. Difficult points:
a. Develop the students’ communicative ability.
b. Stimulate the students to take an active part in class activities.
Ⅴ. Teaching and Learning Methods
1. Teaching methods:
In order to better achieve the three dimensional goals, stress the key points and overcome the difficult points, Task-based Teaching Method, Audio-visual Teaching Method and Communicative Teaching Method will be adopted. Task- based Teaching Method can help retain the students’ attention while Audio-visual Teaching Method can practice the students’ listening and speaking abilities. At the same time Communicative Teaching Method can improve the students’ ability of language using.
2. Learning methods:
According to the New Curriculum Reform, my teaching should embody student-centered. So students should combine Inquiring Learning Method, Autonomous Learning Method with Cooperative Learning Method, which can encourage them to learn English independently and cooperatively.

Step 1. Lead-in
1. T: Boys and girls, do you like animals
Ss: Yes, we do.
T: Let’s enjoy a video about animals.
Teacher tells the students that after watching the video, they have to tell what animals they can see in the video.
2. Ask the students to share the animals they can see in the video.
Step 2. Presentation
1. Show the picture of some part of the animals, the picture of the food that the animals like, a sentence that introduce some animals and the national flag’s picture of the country that some animals live in to let the students to guess what animals they are.
2. Play a game.
One student tries to act out or tells something about a kind of animals, the other students try to guess what animal it is.
Step 3. Practice
1. Show pictures of some animals and some description words which can describe animals. The teacher makes a conversation with some students first. Then let the students to make dialogues with their partners to talk about the animals they like and the animals they don’t like.
2. Finish 3a. Becky is Jill’s favorite animal. Fill in the blanks with the words in the box. Then check the answers together.
Step 4. Consolidation
1. Group work. Ask the students to tell something about their favorite animals then choose one student to introduce as a guide. Work in group of six.
2. Show an example that dubbed by teacher.

3. Let some students introduce their favorite animals.
Step 5. Project
1. Enjoy a video that about human and animals. Show some pictures about elephants’ ivory, tigers’ furs and the cut tress. We can see that human can live happily with animals from the video. So animals are our friends. But we are losing our friends because some people are killing them. Lead the students to protect the animals.
2. Suppose you are a kind of animals. Write a letter to ask for help for the animals. ( Because of the time, let the students discuss in class and write after class.)
