I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings(兄弟姐妹).We weren’t poor by most standards, but things were definitely tight for us. My parents never shared their financial worries. Instead, they chose to let us have a carefree childhood. But despite their consideration, I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that certain things my friends had wouldn’t be available to me.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: thick slices of homemade bread hiding one scant slice of bologna, three oatmeal cookies, and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of fried chicken or fish sticks and potato puffs, cartons of cold milk, chilled peaches and a slice of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the desire in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I skipped home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken fricassee across the cafeteria and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn’t as great as I had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
One rainy day, Mrs. Caruso asked me to stay after school. My stomach instantly dropped to the floor. Surely, I must be in trouble! Did she know I hadn't finished my math sheet Did she see me teasing Billy on the playground

One Possible Version:
After the other students had left, Mrs. Caruso said she was going to finish her work and then drive me home. It was raining, and she knew I had a long walk. We pulled up at my house and she got out, taking out a few bags on the porch. “Tell your mom I had a few extra things she might want,” she said Then she drove away. Inside the bags were clothes, toys, and books. That summer, Mrs. Caruso invited us all to her home. She gave us lemonade and sugar cookies, and we were amazed at the fancy fruits in her backyard.
I don’t know why Mrs. Caruso helped my family. Maybe she also grew up in a family that struggled. Maybe she knew what it was like to feel just a little less than everyone else. Somehow, even with her quiet char-ity, she never made me feel ashamed. She just made me feel loved and important. Thanks to her, I learned that I had just as much night as anyone to sit at the hot-lunch table. I don’t remember what Mrs. Caruso looked like anymore, but I do remember how she made me feel. I’ve never lost that feeling of being important to someone and being protected by her. After all these years, I’m still grateful to that wonderful teacher.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Itwas the last day of the month-long summer camp. All the camp leaders and volunteers were preparing for the grand wrap-up event that evening. Some were setting up chairs and tables outside; some were preparing water balloons for games we would play later; and some were cutting fruits and veggies for snacks.
One of the leaders, George, came to me, handed me a small broom and a dustpan, and asked me to sweep the gym. Alone. While the others were chatting and laughing outside. While the gym was dusty and stuffy (不通风的) after weeks of camp and crafts.
I didn’t have a choice. I was sixteen, and George was my elder. I was a staff member at camp, and George was my employer. I put on as cheerful a face as I could and began to sweep the floor of the gymnasium.
Every time I made a decent (合宜的) pile of dust and scraps (残羹剩饭) to push into the dustpan, I had a nice little part of the gym cleared. But I would look up and see the rest of the gym and realize how big the job was. The whole situation felt so unfair.
I wasn’t really happy then. I’m not proud of it, but I was angry as well. I could hear the sounds of people talking, laughing, and generally having a great time outside. There was silence in the gym, except for my sweep, sweep, sweep.
During a break between sweeps, I looked up. George was quietly and matter-of-factly moving the speakers and cleaning the stage at the front of the gym. I noticed he worked alone as well. He didn’t seem particularly excited about what he was doing, but I noted the calmness and joy in his eyes as he went about his work, doing what had to be done because he was there and he was able to do it.

One Possible Version:
I watched him silently for the next ten minutes. My broom and I were making slow but sure progress across the gym. Slowly, my unhappiness and anger left my heart, and in its place grew an appreciation for what I saw in George. Being a leader doesn’t mean getting to do all the fun things. It means sacrifice and hard work. I cleaned the whole gym with a small broom, one sweep at a time. As I finished and passed him, he looked up and smiled at me and I smiled back. I was tired; it was a tired smile; but it was a real smile.
“Thanks, Laura.” he said and nodded as if acknowledging the small sacrifice I had made. I forgot what I said in return. Probably “You’re welcome.” But what I should have said and what I want to say to him now is this: “Thank you for teaching me and showing me what being a good leader looks like. Thank you for the opportunity to sweep the floor of the gym, because now whenever I feel discouraged, I remember that half hour, and am reminded that doing the hard, right thing matters, no matter how I feel about it.”

What started as a lonely graduation day for a teen in Alabama has turned into a priceless opportunity to bond with his teacher. Now, that teacher is working to get that student a car that will get him started in his adult life.
On Thursday, Bessemer City High School held its annual graduation ceremony. Dom Moore was one of the teachers involved in coordinating the event. After the ceremony ended, Dom was cleaning up. Nearly everybody had left to celebrate with friends and family, but one young man was still sitting there by himself. “I knew his moods and I knew he wasn't himself,” Dom said. Not knowing what to say at first, the teacher told him, "I expect big things from you and it's going to be OK.”
Dom assumed that someone would show up eventually to give the graduate a ride home. But nobody did. When Dom offered to drive him, the two had no idea that this was to be more than just a ride home. The teacher decided to take him out to eat-at any restaurant of his choice. They ended up at the Cheesecake Factory, and enjoyed a hearty meal and dessert to celebrate the graduate's achievement.
At first, the two were fighting back tears. But before long, they were having a great time together. Dom never asked why the boy's family did not attend the ceremony. What was important to him was that the young man felt appreciated for what he had accomplished. Later that evening, Dom took to Facebook to share a photo and some thoughts on the event. He says that he doesn't normally post about these situations, as they are all too common in his profession, but that something inside urged him to share this experience.

Mary waited anxiously for her turn in the empty dressing room. Never had she been so nervous before. This competition was of vital importance to her comeback .“If I can win today,” she said to herself, “I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago, her left arm was seriously injured in a car accident. After the medical treatment , she began to recover slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills.
“Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica. “How is your arm Is it going to influence your performance ”
“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match . ” said Mary with a determined look.
“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well-matched e on!”
After Jessica left, Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin . “If I don’t try harder, I won’t grasp this chance.” She thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary, what makes you think you have a chance tonight ” she said to herself. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up.
A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said “Hi, I’m Linda. I am the next one!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “This is just my competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a scream, “Oh, God, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain . “It may be missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.

One Possible Version 1:
Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She went over and then opened the box to find Linda’s tape was just inside. At that time, she was in a dilemma, “This is my chance to defeat her.” But on a second thought, she changed her mind, “If I hide it, I will win the competition but I may lose something.” She placed it on the chair carefully, leaving a note saying “Take it easy, we are the best.” Soon, it’s her turn to come on the stage.
Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. She kept reminding herself, “I have been practicing for so long, and I will certainly make it.” But the serious pain in her arm came again when she was performing the most difficult spin. She fell down on the stage. At that moment, Linda came back in low spirits. To her surprise and relief she saw the tape and Mary’s note. With Mary’s kindness and encouragement, Linda finished her performance calmly and skillfully. Finally, Mary lost the game but she believed she had won everything.
One Possible Version 2:
Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She bent over to pick it up. “Linda’s music tape!” She cried out in surprise. “It must have rolled out of her bag, while she got changed here.” At this moment, an idea flashed through her mind, which made her rooted to the spot. “Without her music tape, Linda will surely lose; without this real competitor, I will definitely win.” At the thought of this, Mary shivered slightly. She was in a dilemma, wondering what to do next. “Do I really want to win so much ” She hesitated for a second and then hurried out to give the music tape to Linda ,who was extremely anxious in the corridor. Linda was so grateful to Mary, and finished her dancing successfully.
Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. Nervous as she was, she stepped onto the stage with a big smile. She danced skillfully to the music and completed her most difficult spin smoothly. “Good,” she thougt to herself, “my injured arm is awesome today.” As the music ended, thunderous applause filled the stadium. With the final marks announced, Mary knew she achieved her goal and tears began to well up in her eyes . (Possible ending 1)As she headed back to the dressing room, Linda came up to her cheerfully and held her hand tightly, “Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing performance! You win!” Mary smiled happily, “I win.” (Possible ending 2)As she headed back to the dressing room, she thought about the music tape. “No one will know how close I really came to losing,” Mary said softly to herself.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tipping him so be landed in the dir. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, he said, “thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. The more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Once there was a ship travelling on the tough sea and on the ship there was a pair of couple. All of a sudden, the ship met with an accident and the couple had no choice but to run to the life boat without delay. After reaching there, they realized that there was space only for one person. At that very moment, the husband pushed his wife behind him and jumped onto the lifeboat himself, leaving his wife standing on the sinking ship, shouting something desperately to her husband eyes filled with tears.”
The teacher stopped her story-telling and asked her students, “Guys, guess what it was that she shouted.”
Most students answered. “I hate you!”
After listening to all this reply, the teacher glanced through the whole class again and noticed that there was a boy sitting silently throughout. Then she asked him the same question.
The boy answered, “I believe she would have shouted-Take care of our child.”
Listening to his remarks, the teacher was surprised and asked the boy doubtfully. “Have you heard of this story before ”
Shaking his head, the boy said softly and sadly, “No, I haven’t. But that’s what my mother said to my father before she died of a deadly disease.”
Moved and feeling sad, the teacher replied. “Your answer is absolutely right!”
Then she continued, “Let’s take up the story. The ship sank eventually and the husband went home and brought up their daughter alone. Many years later after the death of the man, their daughter was tidying up all his belongings when she found his diary. In his diary she found that when her parents were on the ship, her mother had already been diagnosed (诊断) with advanced illness and at the critical moment, the father rushed to the only chance of survival.”

如:be faced with;take care of;make it;keep one’s promise;reflect on;focus on;put oneself in others’ shoes等固定短语。
①Seeing the little girl grow into a sunny, pretty girl with double love from both parents, the man knew he made it to keep his promise.中使用了现在分词seeing作状语;
②The teacher was sure that the students were reflecting on their replies and that they had understood the moral of the story.中that引导的是宾语从句。
One possible version:
In his diary, the man mentioned he wished to sink to the ocean with his wife but for their daughter he had to live. Without him, their baby daughter would become an orphan. After drowning himself in sorrow for a short time, he uplifted himself and learned how to raise baby. Whenever faced with hardships, he would inspire himself with his wife’ words—“Take care of our child.” Seeing the little girl grow into a sunny, pretty girl with double love from both parents, the man knew he made it to keep his promise.
The story was finished and the class was silent. Nobody talked or laughed as usual. Instead, it seemed that every student was lost in deep thought, tasting the moving life story. The teacher was sure that the students were reflecting on their replies and that they had understood the moral of the story. Of the Good and Evil in this world, there are hidden secrets behind them. So we should not really focus on the surface and judge anyone without understanding them first. Put yourself in others’ shoes and then you can really understand their behavior.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday.
Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that's a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.
Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of hear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase (追赶).
Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh.
At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.

One Possible Version:
The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Seeing Paul wave at him kindly and open the car door for him Mac jumped off his bicycle and rushed into the car without any hesitation. No sooner had the poor man got in than Paul closed the door instantly. The wolf walked around the car and howled furiously at them, but just in vain. Realizing it couldn’t catch Mac any more, the wolf ultimately gave up and walked away gloomily. On spotting the wolf swallowed by the road, Mac, bathed in perspiration, sighed with relief and sank down to the back seat. Paul handed a bottle of water to Mac, who managed a weak smile, murmuring something like “Thank you”.
A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. Knowing that Mac had been chased by a wolf, they were stumped for words and paralyzed with fear. The two friends extended their earnest gratitude to Paul for rescuing Mac and then took Mac back home. After such a terrible experience, the splendid landscape of Alaska seemed no longer to be a temptation to them. On the way back home, feeling the light breeze through his hair, Mac felt what happened just now was just a nightmare, but a warm glow flooded into his inner heart as he thought of Paul’s unselfish assistance. The most precious part of humans is their care for each other.

I was walking down the muddy road one day when my cell phone rang. A child's voice on the other end spoke to me softly, "Dad, please come hack soon. I miss you so much!” Unconsciously, I knew it was a wrong number once again. I don’t have a single daughter. I just have a six-year-old son. It is not unusual to receive this kind of calls nowadays, so I replied rudely, "You've dialed the wrong number!” and then hung up in anger.
During the following days, I got the same call now and then. It disturbed me, so I either rejected her or hung up right away rudely. I couldn’t help complaining about this, “What an impolite girl! How can she call me up over and over again ” How 1 wished the little girl would stop causing any trouble to me some day! Suddenly, the phone rang up again. It was from the same girl- It seemed that she would not give up until she got an answer.
She constantly called me up. Even if I did not give her an answer, she still dialed my number from time to time. Eventually I unwillingly answered the phone. 1 heard the weak voice of that little girl, “Dad, please come back now. I miss you so much! Mom told me this was not a wrong number. It is your cell phone number, right Dad, I am in so much pain! Mom said you were too busy to take care of me. She is tired out from looking after me. Dad, I know you are busy. If you cannot come home, please kiss me again in the phone, OK ” The innocent request was difficult to reject. I made a loud kiss into the phone and heard a weak voice saying, “Thank you.... Dad, I am so... happy, so …happy

One Possible Version:
Shortly after this, I became interested in who had been on the other end of my phone. When I called the number back, a woman answered, “Sorry, sir. I am really sorry to bother you. I did want to call to apologize.” From the woman, I learnt that the girl had bone cancer when she was born, and unfortunately her father died in an accident weeks ago. The little girl suffered from unbearable treatment every day. Feeling painful, she would cry for her dad who had always encouraged her, so her mother gave her a random number.
I couldn’t wait to ask the woman how her daughter was. The woman thought for a while, saying sadly, “She has gone. You must have kissed her on the phone, and she went with a smile as she tightly held the cell phone with which she could hear her voice...” On hearing this, I couldn’t keep back my sad feeling, tears streaming down my cheeks. I didn’t know what to say, so I slowly hang up my phone, praying for her happiness and health in heaven.

"That doesn’t look like a tiger. Is it a toy ""I had never thought of that. But looking at it, it was really just a piece of wrapping paper.
Later, Dad bought me a full set of Wars action figures. I packed the paper animals in a shoebox and put them into the comer of the attic(阁楼). Once in a while, I would see Mom at the kitchen table making new paper animals. I caught them, pressed and then put them away in the box in the attic.
Mom was also trying to learn to speak English, but her accent and broken sentences embarrassed me. I tried to correct her. but in vain. Eventually. I stopped talking with her. For years, I paid no attention to Mom until one day my Dad called and told me that Mom was in hospital. Dad and I stood, one on each side of Mom. She turned to me, " Jack, just keep that box with you, and you will find it so important. "
She died several days later. Dad aged raw after that. The house was too big for him and had to be sold. My girlfriend Susan and I went to help him pack and clean the place.
Susan found the shoebox in the attic.

It was a rainy November morning. Overcome with anger I knew if I didn’t leave the house soon I would lose my temper with my husband, Joe. As rain came down in sheets, Joe offered to take me to work. I struggled into my jacket, seized my bag and teaching plans and ignored him.
He insisted and reached for his boots. I looked at the piles of newspapers and the dirty dishes sill on the table. “Don’t you have enough to do I can take care of myself. ” I stormed out, not even kissing him good-bye. Joe shouted after me not to take the shortcut.
Joe and I had been eagerly looking forward to our retirement when a heart attack that past spring forced him to leave his job earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills mounted we realized I would have to continue working full-time while Joe stayed home and took over the housework.
The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day of full work, all I wanted was a hot home-cooked meal and a good night’s sleep. However, what greeted me at the table was a microwave package. Sometimes he would serve oatmeal(燕麦)for several nights in a row. One night when I dragged myself to bed, I was terrified to discover Joe had turned our white sheets blue. He told me he had found out how to save on water, soap and electricity. He patted his blue trousers and announced proudly washing everything together was just the secret.
Ten minutes later, ignoring Joe s warning, I turned off the main route. I thought it hadn’t rained enough to flood the road, but as I rounded the corner water rushed across my path. After a few feet, the car got stuck. I opened the door and water poured in. I hurriedly closed the door. I couldn’t risk walking in this. Almost 20 minutes passed. The car began to shake. I got frightened to death when I heard three long honks(喇叭声).
