Over the next 20 years,we are going to send more and better robots to Mars. Those robots will send back better pictures, maps, samples, and weather reports. There is a limit to what robots can tell us,though,so eventually we will have to send people to study the planet. Before people can visit Mars,we need to invent a spaceship that can take us there.Mars is very far away.Depending on where Mars and Earth are in their orbits (轨道) around the sun,it could take between six months to a year to get there.
The moon is much closer, and we were there,25 years ago.Over the next 10 years,we are going to work on building a new spacecraft that can go to the moon.Using this craft,we will practise the skills we need to go to Mars.
Once we get to the moon,we are going to build a station so that people can live and work on the moon for months at a time. This is important so that we have a place to start from when we want to visit Mars, but it is also important because it gives us practice with living away from Earth.
By the time you are old enough to be an astronaut,we will have people spending months on the moon.By the time you are old enough to be a commander of a space mission we will be taking trips to Mars.By the time your kids are old enough to be astronauts,we may have people living on Mars.Wouldn’t it be cool to get a postcard from someone who was building a house on Mars Wouldn’t it be cooler if it was you who sent the postcard

A.is not always the same B.is nearly the same
C.is unchangeable D.never changes very much

A.people can learn to adapt to living on other planets
B.people can practise planting crops in it
C.the new spacecraft can only land in it
D.astronauts can practise skills they need to go to Mars
27.The author of the passage .
A.thinks that trips to the moon are an unrealistic dream
B.encourages kids to be astronauts
C.hopes to receive a postcard from Mars
D.is sure people’s dream of living on Mars will come true

A strange object was found in a small city called Carlos Spegazzini, just a short drive from the capital city of Buenos Aires.
When farmer Jose first found an odd scene in his farmland,he began to dig at the object. However,he quickly found himself running to tell his wife.Jose needed more support if he was going to investigate this strange thing.
Even the dog was hesitant to investigate.Unfamiliar with the object, man’s best friend was not about to jump at it with little concern. Therefore, they chose to call in somebody who has a better idea of what to do.
When the police first showed up,they were just as stumped as Jose. They knew this object was something out of the ordinary. It might even be something extraordinary,so more questions appeared.
It quickly became apparent,it was time to call in the big guys. That’s right;when you find something that appears to be out-of-this-world,it’s time to call in those who study the mysteries of the old world.
Authorities called in archaeologists who jumped at the chance to study the object. They quickly determined one thing was for certain:the ancient big one that left this behind was absolutely massive! The group was unable to move the shell,as it weighed nearly two tons!
Clearly, this massive beast was not the only of its kind existing in the modern-day world.Similar fossils had been found in the surrounding areas and had even made their way to museums. But what was the ancient beast

The situation of the world’s plants is not good. One fifth of the kinds of plants are in danger of disappearing, according to a report.
“Plants are very vital to human beings,”said Kathy Willis, who led the new report.“Plants provide us with everything—food, fuel, medicine, and they are very important for our climate controlling.Without plants we would not be here.”
The good news is that deforestation rates(森林砍伐率) around the world have dropped largely since the 1950s.However,this report on the health of plants around the world shows that there is much more to be done.
The report predicts that there are now 390,900 kinds of plants. And about 21 percent of those plants are in danger of disappearing.“The good side is that we’re still discovering lots of new plants, about 2,000 each year,” said Dr Willis.“The bad side is that we’ve seen a huge change in land cover, mainly caused by cultural activity, with a little bit of climate change in there as well.”
Human activity has a great effect on the danger of plants disappearing. As humans cut down forests to make room for agriculture(农业),and towns and cities, biodiversity(生物多样性) is lost. This could not only affect our own food supply directly, but also it could affect the food web.
32.What does the underlined word “vital” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Useless. B.Friendly. C.Equal. D.Important.
33.Which of the following does Dr Willis agree with
A.New plants are more than ever before.
B.About half the plants will disappear soon.
C.Many new plants are found every year.
D.Plants mustn’t be used to produce medicine.
34.What do we learn from the third paragraph
A.We have made little progress.
B.There is a long way for us to go.
C.We have achieved our goal.
D.There will be nothing we can do.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Biodiversity Being Lost
B.Human Social Activity
C.Environment Protection
D.Nature Climate Change

My mom only had one eye.I hated her.She was such an embarrassment.
She ran a small shop at a flea market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed.Once during elementary school,it was field day,and my mom came.I was so embarrassed and wondered how could she do this to me I threw her a hateful look and ran out.The next day at school,my schoolmates asked me,“Your mom only has one eye ” and laughed at me.
I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from this world. So I said to my mom,“Why don’t you have the other eye You’re only gonna make me a joke!” My mom trembled with shock, and said in an apologetic tone,“I’m so sorry that I only have one eye,and I was an embarrassment for you.But I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. I will leave right now.Sorry!” My mom turned around and staggered away.
For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something biting at me in the corner of my heart.Even so,I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty.Maybe because my mom hadn’t punished me,I didn’t think I had hurt her feelings very badly.
I told myself that I would become successful in the near future,so I studied very hard.Later I got accepted by the Seoul University.I left my mother and came to Seoul to study.I never went back to visit my mom.
Then I got married there.I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man.I enjoy the life in Seoul because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
It was my mom! And still with her one eye!

Holding the letter,I cried for the person who only lived for me.

M:I’m afraid I don’t agree with you there.Reducing air pollution is really important.People are so used to driving that they don’t think of other ways to do things. If we stop them from driving on certain days, maybe they could think of new ways to get around.
W:I see your point, but I still think it wouldn’t be possible to stop people from driving.

M:Let’s go and have lunch together.
W:OK.
M:By the way,I’m thinking of going to New Zealand around Christmas for three weeks. It’s such a beautiful country,I’ve never been there before.
W:Have you booked the flight
M:Not yet.I am planning to book my flight in two weeks time.
W:Book your flight right now.

W:Because the longer you leave it,the more expensive it will be.As a matter of fact, the prices may double at Christmas time.New Zealanders usually go home for Christmas.
M:Then I’m going to book my flight tomorrow morning.

写作
第一节
Dear Jim,
It’s great to hear from you.I feel proud knowing your interest in Chinese history.
As for my favourite figure in Chinese history,it must be Wei Yuan,a great thinker in the late Qing Dynasty. He,in his book,Maps and Records of the World, introduced modern technologies and ideas to China. That opened our eyes to the world. In fact,he inspires me to major in English in college.
Interested in knowing more I can find you some books!Just let me know.
Cheers!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
It was my mom! And still with her one eye!Reminded instantly of my dark past and embarrassment,I felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me.Overwhelmed with rage,I growled at her,“Who are you How dare you come to my house!” My mom narrowed her eye and opened her mouth but nothing came out there.Dead silence! Tears streaming down the gloomy wrinkled face, she thrust a letter into my hand, turned around and staggered away, head deep down.Heart stung by her withered back,I just cast a glance at the letter. My mom gave that eye to me! My world shattered.
Holding the letter,I cried for the person who only lived for me. How she wanted her own son to see the world clearly! But how deeply I had hurt her! Heart knotted with deep regret,I called out loudly,“Mom!” I ran after my mom, grabbed her and knelt down.“Mom,would you forgive me and accept me again ” Tears dried and a smile of forgiving stole into her cheeks. It’s never too old-fashioned to say mom’s love is the greatest in the world.
