1. Teaching Aims and Demands
1) Knowledge Objects:
Key vocabulary:
volunteer, clean up, homeless people, give out, cheer up, volunteer to teach.
Target language:
I’d like to work outside.
I’ll help clean up the city parks.
You could give out food at a food bank.
2) Ability Objects
To train the students to use the phrasal verbs, and to train the students’ ability of
listening and speaking.
3) Moral Object
Being a volunteer is great! Get students to be interested in volunteer work and
do something really on it.
2. Teaching Analysis
In this period, students learn to express what kind of volunteer work they would
like to do. And they will know much about the volunteers and volunteer work. And they will learn to choose a volunteer job based on their own skills.

To help students learn and grasp the phrasal verbs and the target language.
To let students know something about the volunteer work.

Teach the students how to use the new phrasal verbs.
Teach the students to express offering to help with target language.
4. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warming up
First, watch a video and think about two questions: What are the people
doing in this video Who are they To arouse students’ interest of
volunteering. Lead in the topic--volunteering and offering help.
Step 2: Presentation
1) Teach the target language with different pictures: volunteer, clean up,
homeless people, give out, cheer up, volunteer to teach.
2) Let students have a try.
Step 3: Practice
Ask students to talk about the ways to help other people with the pictures on
the blackboard. Then talk about more ways with group members. Pay attention to the sentence patterns: I’d like to...I hope to... I want to ...
Step 4: Listening
1) Page 9, 1b, read the sentences and number the ways the boy and girl could
help others from 1 to 4.
2) Listen again and complete the conversations. Ask two students to write
their answers on the blackboard.
3) Read the four conversations after the tape and then have a reading
Competition.
Step 5: Practice
Make conversations about helping other people with the following sentence
patterns: A: I hope to.../I'd like to .../I want to......
What could/should I do
B: You could/should ......
Step 6: Interview and Report
The reporters from Jingmen TV station interview students about what they will
do to help other people on Volunteer Day in different places.Work in groups to
finish a report and then ask three students to report in front of the class.
Step 7:Make a Vow
First, ask students to read the vows by themselves. Then, pick out a lead reader and the other students read after him/her.
