1、 教学目标
学生通过本节课的学习,能够:
(1)在语境中学会下列新单词:blind,deaf,disabled,letter,difficulty,normal,kindness。
(2)运用正确的阅读策略阅读文本,理解文本内容,明白作者的写作意图。
(3)重点领悟运用词性猜测词义的方法,并运用这一阅读策略更好地理解文本。
(4)在阅读过程中唤起对残疾人的关爱意识,树立同情心。同时,认识动物和人类的伙伴关系,更加关爱动物。
(5)通过开展小组活动,在阅读的基础上进行相关语言输出训练,提高语言表达能力。
2、 学情分析
书信是学生熟悉的一种文体形式。学生在七年级对书信已经有所接触(七年级下Unit4),而且英文书信和汉语书信在格式上有很大相似之处。因此,学生掌握书信的文体体裁并不难。
文本内容涉及到残疾人和狗助手。残疾人是我们生活中常见的群体,关爱残疾人是学生思想品德教育中经常提到的一点。学生生活中经常看到狗对人类的帮助,狗助手虽是学生刚刚接触的一个概念,却是一个饶有趣味的话题。从背景知识上看,只要激活和拓展学生的相关图式,学生理解文本内容并无太大困难。
八年级学生虽已具备一定的阅读基础,但是很少将阅读策略运用于阅读过程中。
3、 教学重点和难点
重点:运用正确的阅读策略阅读文本,理解文本内容,明白作者的写作意图。
难点:重点领悟运用词性猜测词义的方法,并运用这一阅读策略更好地理解文本。
4、 教学步骤
1. Pre-reading
(1)Watch a video
教师提问: Who is keeping a dog as a pet 学生回答后,教师提问饲养宠物狗的同学:What do you think of your dog 学生作答。之后用大约一分钟的时间观看一段短视频,视频内容为狗助手在家里照顾一名小男孩。观看视频后,教师提问:What do you think of the dog 学生作答。然后教师提出问题:What other people do you think dogs can help 供学生思考。
(2)Learn the new words
结合视频,教师通过PPT向学生出示一组图片,在语境中学习a dog helper及其相关词汇,指出: A dog helper is a special trained dog, it can understand orders. 接着,教师做出引申,带领学生学习an animal helper,让学生说出:An animal helper is a special trained animal. 结合视频,教师再次提问What other people do you think dogs can help 后,出示另一组PPT图片,在语境中学习单词blind,deaf和disabled,指出:A dog helper can help disabled people。
(3)Show the letter
教师通过PPT出示给学生教材2b中书信的图片,学习单词letter,指出:This is a letter。接着教师通过提问的方式,借助多媒体带领学生回顾书信格式。
学生清楚书信格式之后,教师就文本中的书信提问,学生回答后教师在图片上圈出答案。最后教师提出问题让学生思考,引出下一环节。师生对话如下:
T: Who wrote the letter
Ss: Ben Smith.
T: Who did Ben write the letter to
Ss: Miss Li.
T: Why did Ben Smith write the letter to Miss Li
(4)Predict
教师用PPT呈现教科书上的插图,在教师引导下,学生通过读图对文本内容展开预测。师生对话如下:
T:Who do you think the man is
Ss: Maybe he is Ben Smith.
T: What’s wrong with him
Ss: He can’t walk.
T: Do you think the dog can help him
Ss: Yes.
T: Who do you think the woman is
Ss: Miss Li.
T: They are talking face to face. If the woman is Miss Li, does Smith need to write a letter to her
Ss: No.
T: So, the woman is not Miss Li. Who is she We’ll read the passage and see.
2. While-reading
(1) 教师用PPT呈现如下内容,学生快速阅读文本回答T or F
Ben can’t use her arms or legs well. (T)
Miss Li gave money to Animal Helpers. (T)
Miss Li talked to Animal Helpers one day last year. (F)
Ben was excited about the idea of having a dog. (T)
Lucky helps Ben a lot and he loves him. (T)
(2)细读第一段回答如下问题
What is “Animal Helpers”
Who gave money to Animal Helpers
之后通过幻灯片教师向学生介绍一些动物助手,进一步加深学生对动物助手的理解。
(3)细读第二段完成练习。
(图表中划线部分为要求学生填写的内容)
接着教师用PPT呈现文本中下面句子:Most people would never think about this, but many people have these difficulties. 引导学生猜测difficulty的词义。师生对话如下:
T: What part of speech do you think it is
Ss: A noun.
T: Why do you think it is a noun
Ss: It is after these. And it ends with “es”.
教师再用PPT呈现文本中下面句子,要求学生根据语境猜测normal的词义。
完成后,请学生说出他们猜测的理由(like 引导的后置定语)。教师带领学生总结:我们可以根据构词法和句子结构、语境等猜测不认识单词的词义。
(4)细读第三段完成以下任务
Read paragraph 3 and fill in the blanks.
1. After ______ months of training with a dog, he______________________
2. The dog’s name is _____.
3. He can understand ______,
understand Ben when he ______.
完成第三段的任务后,教师用PPT呈现文本中下面句子:You see, I’m only able to have a “dog helper” because of your kindness. 让学生根据构词法和句子结构猜测kindness的词义,必要之处予以指导。
(5)细读文本的第四段。教师组织学生阅读文本第四段,并回答问题(见下)。
3. Post-reading
( 1 ) 利用思维导图使学生更好的理解文本,为学生能够复述课文搭建语言支架。
(2)读后输出,评价。
Challenge yourself 学生填空。(使用多媒体课件)

完成任务后,对学生进行情感教育,引出The value of life is not what you gain, but what you give.生命的价值不是索取,而在于奉献。呼吁学生关心他人,特别是需要帮助的人。
(3)读后输出
四人为一小组,讨论In what other ways do you think dogs are able to help people 讨论后每组一个代表来报告讨论结果。
