Harry Potter, a pirate, a baseball player and a gentleman in a bowler hat — Logan Houghtelling turned into all of them, in class before Halloween.
Life was difficult for the San Francisco Bay Area teenager. He worried about his father, a firefighter who was battling wildfires, and missed his friends during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I know other people are feeling like this. So, why don’t I dress up and try to bring happiness to people "Houghtelling said.
So starting in August, he set out to cheer up his classmates, his family and others who came to wonder what he would wear next for his online classes. One day, he popped up on the screen in a toga(托加袍); another day, he wore a cowboy hat and a Western shirt. In September, he wore the uniform of the Chicago Cubs. In October, he was Seymour Krelborn from Little Shop of Horrors. He even dressed up as a bottle of chilli sauce(辣椒酱). "I’ve had two teachers just stop in mid-sentence and start laughing," the 15-year-old boy said. "I’ve had classmates text me like, ‘What are you wearing today ’"
Most ideas came from Halloween costumes that he wore in previous years and clothes that he adapted with the help of his mother, Meredith, an elementary school teacher. "I’ve actually had friends who I’ve come across in the grocery store saying, ‘You haven’t been posting his pictures lately. I am looking forward to his pictures every day’," Meredith said.

Our teenagers are lonely. A new study by Harvard’s Making Caring Common (MCC) shows just how that feeling has been common and become serious during the past year when we had to keep social distance. One year’s online learning and life in the bedrooms rather than the classrooms or dorm rooms can make teenagers feel lonelier than before. Teenagers have been more likely to be influenced by loneliness than adults.
Experiencing loneliness is certainly sad, and it is also perilous. Researchers found that 63% of 18- to 24-year-olds were suffering from bad sleep, anxiety, and poor health during the lockdown (活动限制) and that nearly a quarter had got into some bad habits, including smoking, drinking, and staying up late to deal with their feelings.
About half of the young people in the study, who said they had felt lonely, explained that over the past weeks not one person had taken more than just a few minutes to ask how they had been lately. It made them feel they had no one who really cared about them. Their parents thought they had much free time after lessons and it seemed that their parents only worried whether they could perform their schoolwork at the level they once did. Parents didn’t know the problem.
Sian Leah Beilock, the president of Barnard College, explains that young people depend on social media, which makes them especially vulnerable(易受伤害的) to social media’s harm. She also suggests that fewer close friends in real life may explain some of the feelings of loneliness. She reports that in 1985 the average American had three close friends with whom they could share important things about their lives. By 2004, that number had dropped to just two friends. And by 2019, one in five millennials (千禧一代) had had no friends at all.
These levels of loneliness are heartbreaking. MCC suggests, as a nation, we first should focus on teaching the young to make meaningful connections between people and support them.
32.What does the underlined word "perilous" in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Dangerous. B. Funny.
C. Helpful. D. Uncommon.
33.What can we infer about the young people in the study
A. Their parents misunderstood them.
B. They found their schoolwork heavy.
C. They needed more care and attention.
D. Their online courses made them bored.
34.Which of the following may Sian Leah Beilock agree with
A. Teenagers are short of outdoor exercise.
B. Teenagers should make more close friends in real life.
C. Teenagers enjoy developing close relationships online.
D. Teenagers should avoid sharing important things online.
35.What can be the suitable title for the text

C. US teenagers are experiencing loneliness

This story happened to me many years ago, but I can still remember it well. When I was fresh out of school and working in Denver, there was one occasion when I was driving to my parents’ home in Missouri for New Year. On my way, I found that my car was running out of gas. So I stopped at a gas station about 50 miles from Oklahoma City, where I was planning to stop and visit a friend. While I was standing in line at the cash counter,I said hello to a couple who were also paying for gas and they responded with their warm smiles.
I took off, but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car. My car just broke down. What big trouble! I stopped and was wondering what I should do next when a car pulled up behind me. It was the couple I had spoken with at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend’s. We chatted happily on the way to the city, and when I arrived and got off the car, the husband gave me his business card.
Upon arriving home, I wrote a thank-you note to the couple for their help. Soon afterwards, I received a New Year present from them. In their note they said that helping me had made their holidays more meaningful.
Years later, I drove to a meeting in a nearby town in an early morning. Road conditions were quite poor on the way and it was said that cars broke down frequently there. Anyway, I got there safe and sound. After the meeting, I returned to my car and found that I’d got a flat tire(瘪了的轮胎). I was at a loss when I noticed that the Friendly Ford dealership — a shop selling Ford cars — was right next door. I walked over and found two workers in the showroom.

56.behavior/behaviour 考查词形转换。
on the other hand
be eager to do sth.
此处in new ways意为"用新的方法"。
此处what 引导的从句作focus on 的宾语,what在从句中作宾语。

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your congratulations on my admission to high school. Learning that you are curious about my new life, I am writing to share what attracts me most with you.
To my amazement, we have a robot club and I can work with other students to design robots. Besides, I find it inspiring to communicate with my classmates because they are such excellent teenagers with rich knowledge of the world and a positive attitude towards the future.
With a wonderful learning environment, I have every confidence that I will develop healthily.

One possible version
Paragraph 1:
I entered the shop and found the two workers happened to be the couple. They were the owners of the Friendly Ford dealership. What a great surprise that they appeared in front of me when I had trouble! I stared at them in disbelief for a second. At the same time, they recognized me and gave me a big hug. "Why are you here " They asked with a puzzled expression. I told them that I got a flat tire nearby. Knowing what had happened to me, they said that they would be glad to give me a hand again.
Paragraph 2:
After a while, the couple quickly drove a pick-up truck to my car. Once again, they solved my trouble. Then, they told me that after receiving my thank-you note, they felt that the true happiness came from helping others. To help more people who came across troubles on this road, they ran this shop to sell cars and help those unlucky guys as well. I couldn’t thank them enough. Many years have passed, but I’ll never forget the lesson the couple taught me: Life is meaningful when you can give a hand to those in trouble.
