A force is a pull or push in a special direction. It can cause an object to move.
Balanced (平衡的) forces keep objects from moving. This happens when forces act in opposite directions. The forces have the same strength (强度), too. For example, when two people are pushing against a box in opposite directions with the same strength, the forces will cancel, resulting in no movement.
Unbalanced forces cause objects to move. It’s when forces are uneven. The stronger force moves the object. For example, when two people are playing tug -of -war, the rope will move if one starts pulling more than the other person.
Different kinds of forces can act on an object at the same time. For example, when a cat on a sled (雪橇) is put on a hill, gravity (重力) will pull the sled downward. Gravity is a force that pulls objects together. It keeps everything pulled down to Earth. Gravity always works on an object, even when you pull or push it. Friction (摩擦力) pulls against the sled opposite of gravity. It slows down the sled’s movement. So why does the sled keep moving Because the pull of gravity is stronger than the pull of friction.
27. In which book can you probably read the passage
A. Chemistry. B. Geography.
C. Biology. D. Physics.
28. How many kinds of forces are mentioned in the passage
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
29. Which picture shows the balanced force
30. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Unbalanced forces are of different sizes.
B. Balanced forces cause the movement of an object.
C. Gravity disappears when you pull or push an object.
D. Friction is a force that pulls everything down to Earth.

Recently, children’s literature (文学) has become more and more popular. In fact, children’s literature has been welcomed by both children and adults. People have tried to find out why adults love children’s literature just like children themselves. But there is no final answer.
Children’s literature is very different from adults’ literature. Most of it is fantasy(幻想). That means children can use their imagination. They can enjoy the fantasy world, which is never boring. The most important thing is that the world is bright and hopeful. In the fantasy world, dead people can be alive again and broken legs can grow once more. Right always beats wrong in the end.
Children’s literature can also influence children a lot in education. When they read, their knowledge is increased and children know more about the truth. For a child who just learns to read, understanding the meaning of a word may be greater than learning the word itself.
Children’s literature is not only for children. A large number of adults like it too. Not only young adults, parents and teachers, but also other people of all ages enjoy it. Both children and adults who love children’s literature can get much pleasure from it.

Dear Tracy,
Glad to hear from you. It’s great to know you’ve got a Chinese music club in your school. I think it’s a good idea to listen to traditional and modern Chinese music, especially some classic pieces. This leads to a better understanding of Chinese music. The second activity, sharing the stories of singers, may help you know about their songs better. There are many excellent Chinese singers whose life stories are interesting and inspiring. It’s also fun to sing a few songs of those famous singers.
What’s more, you can learn to play Chinese musical instruments like the erhu or the pipa. Playing them can be quite relaxing. Through these activities, I’m sure you’ll be attracted by Chinese music and Chinese culture as well.
Hope you’ll enjoy Chinese music and have fun.
Yours,
Chen Hua
