Good morning, everybody. My name is Shirley. I invented a kind of clothes made of special paper. This kind of clothes can change its temperature by itself, so people can have the temperature they need in different seasons. When people feel hot, the clothes can become cooler. When people feel cold, the clothes can become warmer slowly. If the clothes are dirty, people needn’t wash them because they can clean themselves, too. As the clothes are made of paper, they are so cheap that people can change their clothes every day. At the same time, old clothes can be made into new clothes again quickly. I’m sure my new invented clothes can make life very easy and comfortable. They can also make our world cleaner and more beautiful. Thank you very much for your attention.

Astronauts, people who fly into space, need special training. They go to Houston, Texas. That is the home of the Johnson Space Centre. There they are tested to see how strong and smart they are.
One of the first tests is for the heart. The people walk or run, then the space doctors see how fast their hearts are beating.
Another important test is performance. In this test, the person must curl(蜷曲)his body up in a ball. When he is in that position, he is put into a round cloth bag. The doctors give him no idea how long he will have to stay in the bag. If a spaceship broke down in space, the astronauts would get into bags like this. Then they would have to wait and curl up in darkness until help could arrive. You can see that an astronaut must not be afraid of tight space or darkness.
After the tests, only the best people are chosen to start astronaut training in a training centre. The astronauts in the training centre learn many other things. They learn how to jump out of a moving airplane. They learn to how to blow up a lifeboat and get into it while they are in the ocean. The astronauts also have to learn how to get lifted out of the ocean by helicopter(直升机). That may look fun, but it can be dangerous.
After they finish training, the astronauts continue to work. They stay in good shape by running and doing exercise. They read about their special jobs. In that way they can learn new facts about space travel.
Then the big day comes. The astronauts are told to go to work on a flight into space. The crew members(全体船员)get to know each other first. Then they can learn what job they each will do.
( )52. The astronauts don’t know how long they will stay in bags in the test because ______.
A . the doctors need to know how strong they are
B. the astronauts need to show how smart they are
C. good astronauts mustn’t be afraid of darkness or tight space
D. nobody knows when help will come if the spaceship breaks down

In the 13th century, Marco Polo, the world known Italian traveler, saw many wonderful things in China. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.
Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1100. Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that, countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.
Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots(靴子)to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated(使绝缘)from heat and cold with paper.
However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow.
So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china(瓷制的)cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some.
In short, we should keep a balance(平衡)between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late.
( )56. Canada became an important country in paper making because ______.
it was a large country B. it was rich in forests
C. it was a very rich country D. the inventor was from Canada
( )57. In Finland, paper is used for ______.
making beds B. reducing waste C. making umbrellas D. keeping warm
( )58. We can infer from the passage that ______.
paper money was used earlier in China than in the west
Marco Polo was a world famous traveler from Italy
paper was invented by a Chinese man named Cai Lun
we will have no trees to make paper for our daily use
( )59. If we put the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best
( ① = Para.1 ② = Para.2 ③ = Para.3 ④ = Para.4 ⑤ = Para.5 ⑥ = Para.6 )

Technology has influenced the way we communicate. Instead of sending letters or cards, we’re writing e-mails. Besides, we can send greeting cards to our friends on the Internet. No postage(邮费)is needed.
Sending a note to a friend can be done in a few seconds on the Internet. We may even see a friend if he is there and talk to many people at a time.
Mobile phones become very important in our lives, too. We can use them to give calls no matter where we are. And sending text massages is another effective(有效的)way to communicate.
However, everything has two sides. Great technology has made us feel farther and farther away from the real society. And it’s difficult to tell if the net friends we are talking to are really kind to us. Even worse, many young people have forgotten how to spell and write complete sentences because of the Internet and smart-phones(智能手机).
Some people think that we might miss something more important in our life when only paying attention to technology. It’s time for us to wake up.
