Unit 4 Why don’t you talk to your parents
Teaching goals:
1. Knowledge goals: master some new words and phrases such as compete…with…, continue, training, stress, development, compare …with…and so on.
2. Ability goals: help students learn some reading skills such as guessing the meaning of new words according context.
3. Emotional goals: feel the parents’ love to their children and strive to look for the proper ways to communicate with parents so that children can have a happy life.
Teaching important and difficult points:
Difficult points: use proper reading skills to understand the article.
Key points: some phrases and difficult sentences.

Teaching procedures
Step1. Greetings and leading in.
Ask and answer
T: What do you do on your weekends
S: Do homework, use the internet, hang out with friends…
Watch PPT
Find out the conflict between the father and the children by watching the short section in movie Gangal.
Step2. Pre-reading
Look through the article, the picture and the title to predict the main idea of the article.
Step3. While-reading
(1)Show the reading tips.
(2)Skim.
Read the article as quickly as possible and match the main ideas with each paragraph.
A. Life for the Taylors’ children is busy because she wants them to success.
B. Linda Miller thinks that parents shouldn’t push their children so hard
C. Chinese children are busy on weekends.
D. Dr. Alice Green believes too many activities cause much stress for children
(3)Scan
Read the article as carefully as possible to finish the questions in each paragraph.
(4)Practice
Match new words with the meanings by themselves.
Step4. Post-reading
(1) Have a debate on the topic : children should have after school classes
Divide students into two parts the negative and the positives and them discuss in groups. At last, have a debate.
(2) Let students show their ways to relax in front of the classmates.
