Be a Green Child
What does it mean to be green “Green” is more than just a color. 1 Why green Plants are green, and without them the Earth wouldn't be such a lovely home for us human beings. Every day, people make choices that affect the amount of rubbish and pollution that gets produced in our world. What can we do Here's a four-step guide to being green:
Reduce It!
2 For instance, a shorter shower means you use less water and less fuel(燃料) since your house uses fuel to run the water heater that warms up the water.
Reuse It!
3 Sometimes people call ours a “throwaway society”. That means that we're a little too willing to throw away old stuff(东西) and buy new stuff. For instance, if your baby brother outgrows his plastic basketball hoop(篮圈), why not give it to another family who has a little kid
Recycle It!
Recycling has never been easier. Many communities will pick it up right in front of your house and some towns even require it. Recycled goods go to a recycling center, where they can be turned into new cans, bottles, and paper.
Enjoy It!
It's true that rubbish and pollution are problems, but the Earth remains a huge and beautiful place that's ready for you to explore. 4 Go for a hike, visit local nature centers and gardens, and climb up mountains. But before you travel the globe, take a look at your own backyard. Is there a place where you could plant a tree or put in a little fruit or vegetable garden 5
If so, get out there and get your hands dirty.
Turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth.
It also means taking special steps to protect the environment.
When you use less of something, you do a good thing for the Earth.
You can start locally by visiting the naturally beautiful places in your city.
Many times, even if you no longer need something, someone else just might.
G. You can watch with pride as your tree takes root(根) and your garden plants grow.

How did you learn how to ride your bike Someone probably gave you a few lessons and then you practiced a lot. 1 No one is born knowing how to study. You need to learn a few study skills and then practice them.
Pay attention. Do you have trouble paying attention in class Are you sitting next to a loud person Is it hard to see the board 2 Tell your teacher or parents about any problems that are preventing you from paying attention and taking good notes.
Plan ahead. Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday's test will make for a homework night that's no fun! It also makes it hard to do your best. We’re all guilty(愧疚) of putting things off sometimes. 3
Ask for help. You can't study effectively if you don't understand the material. 4 You can check yourself by reading through your notes. Does it all make sense If not, ask your teacher to go over it with you.
Get a good night's sleep. So the test is tomorrow and you've followed your study plan—but suddenly you can’t remember anything, not even 2+2! Don’t worry. Your brain needs time to digest(领会) all the information you've given it. Try to get a good night's sleep. 5
Study regularly instead of just the night before.
You can learn how to study in much the same way.
You'll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning.
If you're studying math or science, do some practice problems.
Make sure you're sitting in a good seat that lets you pay attention.
F. One of the best ways to make sure that doesn't happen is to plan ahead.
G. Be sure to ask your teacher for help if you're confused about something.

Young children learn by being shown actions, by watching others, and through trial and error(不断摸索). The job of parenting has many hard things to teach: respect, kindness, honesty and responsibility. 1 If you take the time to think about what you are doing and reflect on your actions, you just might succeed.
One of the ways young children learn is by observing and imitating(模仿) your behavior and actions. They get a clear understanding of what is right and wrong at a very young age. This is learned through your approval(赞同) and disapproval. 2 What you do and how you encourage your child will help your child learn about what to do and what not to do.
3 Find time each day to talk about this. Repeat the messages you want your child to know. Remember to recognize and praise respectful actions. Express your disappointment and your disapproval when your child shows disrespect. 4 Teach your child to show respect for differences and preferences.
5 Fairy tales(童话故事) and folk tales all help children understand the lessons you might want to teach. When you educate a child's mind, you also educate the child's heart.
Children can help balance work and family demands.
If you just leave it up to chance, it might not just happen.

The family is where a child learns words and their meanings. What you say and how you say it has an important effect on how your child will view himself and his world. 1 Their cries let the family know that they are hungry, tired or they need to be held. The family is where a child learns to understand and to express his wants, needs, feelings, opinions and ideas.
Include your child in conversations from the very beginning. Help him join in. This is a way to learn more about the world, and contribute to conversation.
4 From the time they are very young, they can tell when adults are distracted(注意力不集中的) or not listening. 5
Take the time to build communication within your family. Think about the words you use and take the time to truly listen to what is being said.
Let your child talk on the phone.
Give your child words for everything.
Then slowly the child learns to join in.
D. Children are really aware about adult communication.
E. Young children especially like to see the words in print.

Making decisions in life can be a difficult task. 1 In fact, the decisions you make today will not only influence your future, but also other people and the world in which you live.
Decision making involves thinking, talking, and searching for information related to a problem. 2 You do this by talking with others who know about the subject, going to the library, and thinking about two or more solutions.
3 An example is your ten-year-old car breaks down and needs much money to repair. You need transportation to get to work, to do shopping, and to deal with other tasks. You must decide the best way to spend the family's money.
In deciding—or making a decision—there is a six-step process:
●Define(明确) the problem. Understand the problem clearly.
●Collect and list all the information you can get on the problem.
● 4 It is important to have many possible solutions to the situation. It will take time to research the variety of solutions.
● 5 Look at the good and bad sides to each solution. What are the results of each
Answer the questions: Will this solution be good for me...the family...co-workers Stay with your values and those of your family.
●Choose the best solution to solve your problem.
●Evaluate the decision you made. Decide if you need to change your action plan.
Set clearly defined goals or action plans.
Examine two or more solutions to the situation.
Analyze the possible results of each solution.
You probably won't be happy with every decision you make.
You collect data that can help you with the decisions you need to make.
Throughout your life you will make some decisions that will influence your future.
Decision making usually happens when events, habits, and ways of living change.
