Guizhou Students Realize Musical Dreams in a Rock Band
Students at a primary school in a county of Zunyi city, Guizhou province, set up a rock band to realize their musical dreams, thanks to China’s “double reduction”policies(双减政策)to reduce the pressure of too much homework and off-campus tutoring on students.
The band, which was set up in October last year, is made up of seven students from different grades, with three guitarists, a drummer, a keyboardist, a bass player and a leading singer. Two months ago, the musical band gave a wonderful performance at the playground for both the teachers and students in school, who were deeply impressed by their live show.
“Their talent and musical dreams are likely to give them wings that could push them to fly away from the mountains,” said Fan Biao, a tutor for the students, who graduated in 2019 and applied to serve as a teacher for three years at the primary school.
“Last term, the average score of our school ranked first in the final exam of the primary school group in the county. The facts have shown that students were more active after carrying out the ‘double reduction’ policies,” said Fan.
With “double reduction” policies carried out, different kinds of after-school services are provided by the school. There are many colorful activities specially designed for students to join in after school, including homework tutoring, sports, arts, reading and interest groups.
