Time and Tide Wait for No Man
Good morning, everyone!
It’s my great honor to have a chance to make a speech here. The topic of my speech today is “Time and Tide Wait for No Man”.
In my understanding, the proverb means that if we allow the invaluable time to waste, it never comes back to you. As a Junior Three student, time is limited for study, so none can afford to waste time.
I still remember the golden time in playing two years ago, as a consequence of which I fell far behind others. Realizing that opportunity seldom knocks twice, I seized every moment to study. Gradually I made great progress and was awarded the honorable title of “Star of Progress”. Dear fellows, with the senior high school entrance examination drawing near, we should not be content with what we have done. Value your time from now on and it will bring you benefits.
That’s all. Thanks for your listening.九年级(全)阶段测评

Jonny, a 15-year-old student, is checking his dad’s old jacket. He says, “You’re 45. Dad, you’re never going to wear this again. Can I have it ”
Keith has had a bad day at work, and he is feeling old. And Jonny has hit his pain. Keith raises his voice and says, “What You mean I’m too old to wear the jacket again ”
Jonny feels like this has come out of nowhere, and now he feels hurt. “But I only asked. Why are you shouting at me ”
“But I don’t like being treated as though I’m too old.”
Both of them feel a bit upset.
Have you ever had a similar argument with the people around you Here are some tips for you to remember when you’re getting mad.
●Accept your feelings and consider the other person’s feelings. That means not always making yourself “right” or “clever” and the other person “wrong” or “stupid”.
●Explain yourself and not the other person, so you can speak out your ideas by starting with “I...” but not “You...”.
●Don’t always have to reflect before reacting (回应). If you feel angry, I think it’s a good idea to stop a moment and understand why.
●Don’t decide the purpose of the other person by your guessing. Try to work out what he or she is feeling, and admit (承认) it if you were wrong.
Don’t forget that it’s never too late to start the ways of communicating.

Have you ever met large changes in life and work How would you feel in most cases In fact, we all have to go through the grief cycle (悲伤周期), which has the following periods:
The first period: “It can’t be happening.”
Anger: “Why me It’s not fair.”
Depression: “I’m so sad. Why do I have to do all of these ”
Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK.”
I’m honestly not sure how scientific this model is, but I certainly believe that you will work better after going through these major changes.
Find out what your anger does for you — good or bad
What does being angry do for you Think back to the situation where you have been angry at work and ask yourself how it influences you, including: your relationship with co-workers, the quality (质量) of your work and health, how you feel outside of work, your relationship with friends and family.
Find out what makes you angrier and less angry.
What makes you angrier Which thoughts, situations, people or conversations set you off And what makes you less angry I’m sure you are not angry all the time. What makes you calm and stops you from feeling angry Find out. Then start doing less of what makes you angry and more of the things that cool you down.
Focus on gratitude.
What are you grateful for As I mentioned above, anger is part of the grief cycle which is connected with what you lose. Gratitude is the opposite of loss because it comes from the good things you have in your life. It’s simple. Every evening, sit down with a piece of paper and make two gratitude lists: three things I was grateful for at work today; three things I was thankful for in life today.
Change your focus from “What was done to me” to “What I can do”.
I know, this is the basic piece of all self -help advice. Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about how you deal with it, or you must take responsibility for your own situation, rather than be a victim (牺牲品) of it. That kind of advice can get pretty boring. But that doesn’t make it less true.
27. Why does the writer begin the text by asking questions
A. To explain facts. B. To express disagreement.
C. To give opinions. D. To catch the readers’ interest.
28. What’s the writer’s suggestion about dealing with anger
A. Love friends and family.
B. Do things that make you peaceful.
C. Be friendly to co-workers.
D. Write down what makes you angry.
29. What does the underlined word “gratitude” most probably mean
A. Thanks. B. Safety. C. Courage. D. Praise.
30. Which of the following best describes the last piece of advice
A. Creative. B. Special. C. Valuable. D. Doubtful.

There are two kinds of opinions on “the life in the past and the life today”.
A: The life today is quite different from it in the past. On the one hand, the important technological developments do help humans solve a lot of problems. But on the other hand, the life in the past brought more happiness to people than it does today.
The life was simple in the past. However, as the population of the world is getting larger, competition is getting fiercer (更激烈的). If you are not able to do your job well, someone will replace you soon.
B: The life today is much better than it was in the past. There are many new inventions that make our life easy and interesting. The rice cookers, gas stoves and microwave ovens are of great help to many housewives. The rice cooker is a real time-saver. It is so simple to use that even a child can cook rice with it. There are some other gadgets (小机械) which save the long hours of doing housework for the housewives.
There are many other inventions which can make our life better. For example, the phones help people get in touch with each other more conveniently and the Internet makes people’s life more colorful.
