Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Greeting and revision (about 4 minutes)
Greet the class as usual.
Call one student to tell the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Step 2 Guessing game
Show students a group of objects that are from some fairy tales.
One student describes the object ,the others guess what story is the object from Play the game by describing all the objects on the screen . The others should turn back when they guess.
Step 3 Leading –in (about 6 minutes)
Play the video clip of the movie Hansel and Gretel and have a free talk.
T: Is the movie interesting Do you like it
Ss:Yes, it’s very interesting.
T: This movie is based on the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. A fairy tale is an old traditional story. Do you know what the story is about
S1:I think it’s about the two children Hansel and Gretel.
T: Yes. Today we’ll learn the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. First, let’s look at the title of other fairy tales and guess what these fairy tales are about
Show the title of fairy tales in 2a, then in pairs,ask students to talk about what they are about.
Call three students to say their ideas ,and then the teacher adds something about these fairy tales.
Step 4 Pre-reading(about 4 minutes)
Have students read the reading strategy in 2b and tell them that text type of this fairy tale is a play.
Ask students to read the first paragraph of Hansel and Gretel , and think about what happened next. Then call some students to say their ideas.
Step 5 Continue story
Students work in groups and share their own imagine story .Select the best one, Share my imagine story.
Step 6 Match
Students read the description in 2c,then match them with the correct scene. Check their answers.
Step 7While-reading (about 12 minutes)
Have students read the play and find out the main idea of each scene and write it with a sentence. Then call some students to say their description.
Ask students to read the description in 2c and compare them with their description. Then match each description in 2c with the correct scene. Check the answers in class.
Ask students to scan the story and find out the important phrases and sentences. Then ask students to discuss their usages in pairs. The teacher helps to explain the things they don’t understand.
Have students read the questions in 2d, and then ask them to read the story again and discuss the questions in pairs. Then try to answer the questions and write them down.
Call some students to report their answers and help them correct the answers.
Step 8After-reading(about 8 minutes)
Have students read each scene of the play and write some key words from each scene. Then discuss their answers with their partners.
Call some students to report their answers and discuss in class and come to an agreement. List the answers in the chart in 3a.
Have students read the passage in 3b. Then ask them to complete the story according to the play individually.
Check the answers in class. Then call two volunteers to retell the story according to 3a and 3b.
Step 9 Role-play(about 8 minutes)
Ask students to act out the play in groups of four.
Call some groups to role-play the story before the class. Give every group some praise and encouragement.
Step 10 Summary (about 2 minutes)
T: In this class, we’ve learned the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. It tells us that we must be calm and don’t be panic when you meet any difficulties. We should try your best to get over them.
Ask two students to sum up the key phrases and sentence patterns.
