Step 1 Warm up
Watch an MV and hum the song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” to arouse the students’ interest
Step 2 Answer the questions .
1) Why do millions of Chinese leave the countryside every year
2) How often do you think these people visit their hometown
3) How have our villages changed
(purpose : Prepare to predict the main idea of the passage learn the new words and review the present perfect tense.)

2. While-reading activities
Step 1 Fast reading
How many parts can the passage be divided into Find out the main idea of each paragraph.
Para 1 Their hometowns have changed
Para 2&3 some things will never change like soft and sweet memories.
Para 4 Millions of Chinese leave their hometown to search for work in the cities .
(Purpose : skim the passage to understand the meaning and the structure of the passage by finding out the topic sentence of each paragraph.)
Step 2 Careful reading
1) Read part 1 and finish the chart about ZhongWei.

2) Find the expressions in Para 1 that have the same meanings as the following words and phrases :
now/today,look for ,in the middle of ,go back ,nearly ,pity. Then create a real situation to help the students to make sentences with the new words : Nowadays, search for ,It’s a shame that ..../to do sth.
3) Read para 2&3 and fill in the blanks:
What are the great changes of their hometown
