Pandas are so cute and lovely. They have become so .popular 1 that they are now a symbol (象征) of China. Scientists say there are now fewer 2 than 2,000 pandas living in the forests. Pandas do not have many babies, maybe 3 only one every two years. The babies often die 4 from illnesses and do not live very long. Adult pandas spend 5 more than 12 hours a day eating about 10 kilos of bamboo. Many years ago, there were a lot more bamboo forests and pandas in China, but then humans started to cut down 6 these forests. As the forests get smaller and other human activities 1 lead 7 to more problems, pandas cannot find enough to eat and they are having fewer babies.
An education program in Chengdu teaches children about pandas and other wild animals in danger 8 . They send people to school to tell the children about the importance of saving these animals. And the Chinese government is trying 9 hard to help save the pandas. Scientists are doing research to better 10 understand the habits of pandas. We all hope that in the future there will be a lot more pandas.

Wild beavers(河狸) are back! Experts say that the wild beaver families are doing well. The beavers are even boosting(促进) wildlife and the environment!
Over ten years ago, a family of beavers turned up(意外出现) in a part of the river otter(水獭 ), in Devon (德文郡). No one knew (know) exactly where they came from. It was a big surprise---the wild beavers hadn’t lived in England for 400 years!
In 2015, the government allowed the beavers to stay there as part of a trial(试验). They wanted to see if these animals could be reintroduced(重新引入) to the wild. The trial ended in February. Some scientists from the University of Exeter already said the beavers helped the wildlife in the area. One scientist called 49 (call) it "an amazing story".
A lot of this is because of dams(水坝). Beavers build dams along the river. This creates deep pools in the riverbed and slows 50 (slow) the water down. Sientists say this is perfect for 51 many different types of plants and animals! Many plants are growing near the beavers. Different types of animals are growing 52 (grow) in the river. Beavers also help make flooding less 53 (little), scientists say. The beavers' dams slow down the speed(速度) of the river, especially 54 (especial) after heavy rain.
There are, however, some problems. Beavers gnaw(咬,啃) on trees and this can harm them 55 (they). Their dams can also sometimes create floods(洪水) on people's land.
Beavers aren’t the only animals that are being reintrodueed to the wild! In 2019, red squirrels(松鼠)were brought back to an 56 area of the Scottish Highlands. Further away, the words rarest(罕见的) duck, the Mdbgascar Pochard (马达加斯加潜鸭), is making a comeback. It was set free into the wild on the African 57 (Africa) island in 2019 and is doing well.
