(2) open有多层含义。①做动词，意为“打开，开启”;（商店、企业等）开
业，其反义词为close。②做形容词，意为“开的，开放的”，反义词为
closed。③ 做名词，意为“户外，野外，旷野”。
e.g. The new supermarket opens on Oct 1st. 这家新超市十月一日开业。
The museum is open on Sundays. 博物馆周日开门。
Children need to play out in the open. 孩子们需要在户外玩耍。
(3) own adj. 自己的。常用在形容词性物主代词之后，用来修饰限定
名词。

succeed v. 意为“成功，达到目的”。
e.g. Our plan has succeeded.

succeed in (doing) sth.意为“在……上获得成功/成功地做某事”。
e.g. At last, we succeeded in getting to the top of the mountain.
我们最终成功地登上山顶。

3. Fancy designs or flowers do not look good on short people.
过于花哨的设计或是花饰点缀穿在身材矮小的人身上并不好看。
look good on sb. 意为“……穿在某人身上很漂亮”。（主语是物）
e.g. This dress doesn’t look good on her.
这件裙子穿在她身上不好看。
4. Customers with broad waists will look good in dark or cold-colored clothes
that will make them look slimmer. 腰粗的顾客穿上深色或冷色调的衣服看
上去效果会比较好，因为这种颜色的衣服会使他们看上去更苗条。
look good in 意为“某人穿……很好看”。（主语是人，in后接衣服）
e.g. She looks good in the new dress.
她穿这条新裙子真好看。
5. If tall and thin people wear warm colors, they will appear strong and full.
如果又高又瘦的人穿暖色调衣服，他们会显得强壮、丰满。
appear意为“显得，看来，似乎”，是连系动词。与seem同义，后接形容词做表语。
appear v. 做实义动词时，意为“出现，显现”。
e.g. He seems a little nervous. 他似乎有点儿焦虑。
