Step 1 Greetings
1. Small talk.
Hello, everyone! How are you today …
2. Play a game.
Now let’s play a game, a guessing game. Guess: What’s this (教师在黑板上一边画,学生们一边猜) Yes, it’s an elephant. Do you like animals Everyone should like and protect animals because they are our friends. I like elephants very much because they are very strong and they can work for people. They can carry heavy things for people. But my daughter likes dogs . She thinks dogs are very clever .They can understand our orders. They can help the blind and deaf people in the daily life. So she is a volunteer, she often goes to the “Animal Helpers” to take care of the dogs.
Are you a volunteer Do you often help others
Are you happy after you help others
And the person you help is also happy.
Try to be a volunteer, my dear children! Because it’s important for us to learn to contribute to others. On the other hand, if you are a volunteer, you’ll gain different kinds of skills and you’ll gain confidence and feel good about yourself.

Step2. Listening
Listen to the tape and answer the question:

Try to describe Lucky.
Call some students to answer the questions.
Step3. Reading
1. Read the article for the first time. Finish 2d and answer the questions of 2b. Then find out what kind of letter it is and the main idea. (a thankful letter and the writer expresses his thanks to Miss Li ---a kind-hearted person.)
Reading strategy:
Let your eyes “scan” the text quickly to find details that you are looking for. You can find information quickly without reading the whole text. If you have any difficult words, please don’t worry. You can guess its meaning according to the sentences and the passages. After that you can look them up in your dictionary and vocabulary. If you keep doing so, you can improve your ability of guessing new words. It’s important for you.
2. Then check the answers of 2d.
3. Let’s describe the relationships between them.
Ben Smith thanks Miss Li. Miss Li gave money to Animal Helpers. Animal Helpers trains animals like Lucky. Lucky helps Ben Smith. It shows us the love in the world.

Explaining:
1. thank sb. for sth.\doing sth. = be thankful to sb. for sth.
2. make it possible for sb. to do sth. “使某人有可能去做某事”之意。it 为形式宾语,possible作宾语补足语,for sb to do sth为真宾语。
3. help sb out 帮某人解决难题 (动副短语)
eg: I can work out this math problem. Please help me out.类似的短语pick up; dress up; look up; cut down; find out; take off; put away; cheer up等。
