1. Guessing game Shows the descriptions of 5 BRICS countries one by one. Guess and say the name of the country. To review the language about describing a place.
2. Lead-in 1. Introduces the fact that BRICS will be held in Xiamen these year and was ever held in Sanya(mark the location);2. Plays a video about Sanya and write down what students share;3. Asks question: Do you know how President Hu introduce Sanya to other leaders 4. Writes down 7 aspects on the blackboard. Listen and watch the picture of the BRICS meeting in Sanya;Take down what they learn from the video;3. Review the aspects written in the article according to the “Four-writing” form: Sanya—Paradise on the earth. To review the aspects included to introduce a place. Students will find similarities between the two cities: coastal cities and the host of BRICS.
3. Language summary Requests students to do 2 tasks first on their own and then in group of four. 1. Underline the sentences or phrases you learn about the seven aspects; 2. Work in group of four and write more expressions to introduce the aspects; 3. Share in the whole class by groups. To review useful expression in the article and what they've learned before.
4. Making sentences Displays 4 places they know with given words/phrases. Make sentences to introduce the place according to the pictures and given words. (Use different expressions as much as they can). To use the expressions to make sentences.
5. Group discussion 1. Asks students to discuss what makes a good article;2. Asks students to underline linking words 1. Discuss in groups about what makes a good article;2. Underline linking words and compare the difference. To introduce the assessment criteria and attention to linking words.
6. Students’ presentation about Xiamen 1. Introduces the writing task in this way:BRICS will come to Xiamen. Ask to help President Xi to introduce Xiamen (mark Xiamen’s location);2.Welcomes the student guides.
