1. May I borrow some English workbooks 我可以借一些英语练习册吗?
(1) “May I+动词原形+... ”是表达请求允许的句型。may在此表示请求对方许可。
肯定回答常用 “Yes, please./Yes, of course. /Certainly.”等;作否定回答时应用mustn’t。
e.g. —May I use your phone 我可以用你的电话吗?
—Yes, please. / No, you mustn’t. 是的,请用。/不,你不能。
(2) borrow意为“借来”,习惯上用borrow sth. from sb./sp.
e.g. I often borrow storybooks from my teacher.
我经常向老师借故事书。
2. The girl looks for the books on the shelves.
女孩在书架上找这些书。
look for意为“寻找”,强调寻找的动作和过程。
e.g. My father is looking for his bag. 我父亲正在寻找他的包。
【辨析】find意为“ 找到;发现”,强调找的结果。
find out意为“查出;获知;弄清楚”,强调经过研究、调查而得。
e.g. She found her mother in the supermarket. 她在超市找到了她妈妈。
Can you find out when the plane will fly 你能弄清楚飞机什么时候起飞吗?
3. How long can I keep them 我可以借多久
(1) how long意为“多长时间”,回答一般是时间段。
e.g. — How long did he stay here 他在这待了多长时间?
— About two weeks. 大约两周。
how long还可以用来询问某物有多长。
e.g. — How long is the river 这条河有多长?
— About 500 km. 大约五百千米。
【拓展】how often意为“多久一次或每隔多久”,回答一般为表示频率的词。 how soon意为“多久之后”,回答一般为“ in + 时间段 ”。
(2) keep意为“保存,保留”,“keep sth. for +时间段”表示借某物多长时间。
e.g. You can keep the book for two days.
3. How long can I keep them 我可以借多久
英语中借东西还可以用borrow、lend来表达。borrow表示主语借进,lend表示主语借出。
borrow sth. from sb. 向某人借某物
lend sb. sth. (=lend sth. to sb.) 把某物借给某人
e.g. May I borrow a pen from you 我可以向你借支笔吗?
e.g. I can lend you a book. 我能借给你一本书。
4. You must return them on time. 你必须按时归还它们。
(1) 句中return意为“归还”,为及物动词,相当于give back。
e.g. He will return your bike next week. 他下周会把自行车还给你。
return意为“返回,回来”时,是不及物动词。 “return to+地点”表示“回到某地”;“return from+地点”表示“从……回来”。
e.g. He returns to his home every weekend. 他每个周末都回家。
(2) on time意为“准时,按时”。in time 意为“及时”。
e.g. We must get to school on time. 我们必须按时到校。
I hope we get there in time. 我希望我们及时到达那里。
