Although the Internet is relatively new to the modern world, it has rapidly become part of our daily life.It has become one of the major media of communication and news resources in today's society. It's not a surprise that this infant medium would soon take the place of the traditional sources for news.
But, can something so new be trusted In a medium where anyone can create a webpage, no one knows which news is fake and which news is real.At least with newspapers, we have our established names. And even with television, we think we can trust our nightly news report on the national television stations.Still, studies show that the Internet still is a main, if not the most significant source for news.
The Internet began as a connection of a few government computers used mainly for military purposes. Then, very basic things began to grow out of it: such as download areas and simple e mail. With the creation of HTML which could let you jump from site to site through links, “web browsers (浏览器)” were created. Then came the first webpages and the first bits of news whether the news was personal, local or national. The evolution of online news wasn't slow.In fact, most of the growth took place within a single year.
With the quick and recent influence of the Internet, it becomes difficult to differentiate between the more established news sources and the online medium. We know we can trust sites like MSNBC because they have an established name already in television news. But, with journalists like Mike Drudge (who broke the Monica Lewinksy scandal), his site has been considered more of a “rumor center” than a source for legitimate news.Yet this does not prevent people from using the sites, as news websites offer the quickest, most accurate statistics on news stories.Users need to be careful about which sources they can really trust, personal pages or professional ones.

The other day my colleagues and I went up to Birmingham to find out how teenagers are getting their news and, more importantly, whether they can distinguish fact from fiction.I was alarmed by what we found out, and persuaded that whatever form it might take, news literacy is an area educators will need to think hard about.
Smart policy should be based on solid data, therefore, fake news could be dangerous.Ambitious politicians can use the issue of fake news to raise their profile (形象).Technology firms can point to their response to fake news to display a social conscience. And journalists in traditional media can make their own trade, which is under great financial pressure, look noble when juxtaposed (并列) with the threat from misinformation online.
The teenagers at Cardinal Wiseman School in Kingstanding, Birmingham, were hugely bright. They knew the phrase fake news well. And they were greatly sceptical about the news they get from what they didn't quite refer to as the mainstream media.
We set them a small test, in which they would look at three stories, say whether they were true, false or in between — and why.In each case they mostly gave wrong answers, finally, but for interesting reasons.
All the questions that an adult might reasonably have on seeing a news article went through these young minds.Does the headline seem reasonable Is there anything about the presentation of this article that looks doubtful And so on.The pupils asked all the right questions, but came to all the wrong conclusions.
I wouldn't say that young people today are less bright than in yesteryears. But the amount of news and information they are downloading every day is immeasurably higher than a generation ago, and the fact that the Internet does contain lots of fake news makes me wonder if teaching news literacy may be worthwhile.
Of course, pupils who are good at logic and reasoning will naturally be better at distinguishing believable information. But it may be that the spread of unreliable sources online, combined with the ultra addictive nature of smartphones and the amount of time young people are spending online, bolsters (加强) the case for a more concerted, nationwide effort to deal with fake news in education.Even if, as I said above, we should be sceptical about fake news itself.

6.How does the author explain the danger of fake news
A.By giving examples.
B.By stating arguments.
C.By making classifications.
D.By presenting survey results.

A.They are not as smart as their parents.
B.They are too active to focus on one thing.

8.What advice does the author give in the text
A.Develop children's ability to identify.
B.Spread the education of news literacy.
C.Provide more logic lessons for students.
D.Improve the media environment for children.
解析:选D 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“...bolsters (加强) the case for a more concerted, nationwide effort to deal with fake news in education”可以推知,比起怀疑虚假新闻本身,净化媒体环境、消除虚假新闻才是举国上下一起努力的方向。

I was browsing through different websites and almost all of them had headlines like, “Simon Cowell's TV show ‘Red or Black?’ loses more than a million viewers,” “Pay TV losing thousands of viewers! ” , “Are TV shows doomed (注定) to lose viewers?” and so on.
The web is taking over
There are a couple of reasons why TV has been losing viewers. The major contributor to this is the Internet.Everything you find on TV can be found on the web, but not vice puters are more interactive (交互的) and are broadly used compared to the television.Videos of one's favorite songs and soaps can be downloaded and seen whenever one desires to.So, who really needs the TV now
____________
Ideally, if one is not employed, then he/she would spend more time watching TV. However, what if the financial state of that unemployed person makes him/her unable to afford to watch TV That's the kind of financial state many people are in today. Those who had taken a housing loan and were hit by the economic crisis moved back to live with their families.
A lot of questions have been raised on how the decreasing TV viewership is going to hit the television industry. There has been a shift in television advertisements to other carriers.Restaurants, newspapers and websites are now receiving more advertisements. This will definitely decrease the money earned by the TV industry. But in the long run, because of the increasing competition with the web, there will be more creativity. This will only improve the content seen by the viewers.
However, TV will always remain as a must have thing in every home.A TV brings people together.A TV will always be preferred for enjoying live soccer matches, new TV series and your favorite movies.A computer may be your personal equipment but a TV serves to be a family attraction.

Other people may have their own ideas for our life; we can value their thinking but we don't have to take it to heart.
As children, our parents had dreams for us. They wanted us to do well in school, and to do whatever was necessary to reach our highest potential (潜力). Later in life, friends may try to affect us with their ideas of the perfect partner or the perfect job. People close to us may have ideas about how we should live our lives, and ideas that usually come from love and the hope for us to be happy. Other times, they come from a place of need within them — whether it is the parent who wants us to live out his or her dreams or the friend who wants us to play an already established role. Whatever the case, we can appreciate and consider those people's thinking, but finally we must follow our own inner guidance.
There may come a time when all the suggestions can become overbearing (专横的). We may feel that the people we love don't support our judgment, which can hurt our feelings. It can interfere (干扰) with the choices we make for our lives by making us doubt ourselves before we've had a chance to decide what we want.
We can tell our loved ones how much we appreciate their thoughts and ideas, but that we need to live our own lives and make our own decisions. We can explain that they need to let us learn from our own experiences. When they see that we are happy with our lives and the path we are taking to reach our goals, they can make sure that all we need them to do is to share our joy.
5.We can know from the passage that ________.

6.What result may it be when your friends' advice is overbearing

B.You may interfere with their thinking.
C.You may feel unhappy and doubtful.
D.You may be for their suggestions.

Mary Cope, who works as a dedicated volunteer at Memorial Hospital West, Florida, admits it's her partner who often steals the show.
It's easy to see why with one look at Lady, the dog of this pet therapy (治疗)team. “She's the part of this team that makes it work,” Cope says.
Lady was a stray when Cope and her husband saw her seven years ago. She wandered on their driveway. She had no collar or dog tags, and a twisted front foot that looked badly broken. It was clear she'd been abused.
“I fed and watered her,” Cope says. “Then I took her to our vet.” A woman in the vet's office saw her sweet nature and suggested Lady as a candidate for pet therapy. Cope agreed and contacted Therapy Dogs Inc., an organization that trains and certifies dogs for pet therapy, and signed Lady up for training right away.
Lady's personality makes her a natural. Though neglected and abused, she is always eager to please and make others happy. Patients' faces light up upon Lady's entrance. In return, Lady provides constant, unconditional love. “It doesn't matter who they are, or where they're from, to her, they're all the same,” Cope explains. “And in a hospital setting we've come to see that she loves them all.”
Recalling an unforgettable experience with a 102 year old dog lover, Cope says, “The woman had a huge grin on her face. She said to me, ‘Oh my gosh, I've seen this on TV lots of times and it's never happened to me before. I love it. Thank you so much!’”
When the very weak woman asked for a kiss from Lady, Cope carefully put Lady's front paws on the bed and the dog gently granted her wish. Cope says that the expressions on patients' faces when they meet her four legged friend are priceless.

Newspapers are not nearly as popular today as they were in the past. There are not very many people who seriously read a newspaper every day. Most people only read the sports pages, the advice or the gossip columns, the comics, and perhaps the classified advertisements. Most people don't take time to read real news. They attempt to
catch the reader's interest with pictures and exciting head lines. These techniques are used on the front page because it is the first thing you see when you pick up the paper. The first page attracts attention and encourages the reader to look through the rest of the paper. This is why editors always look for a good first page story and a headline to make them stop and look. If the headline is horrible enough or frightening enough or wild enough, perhaps they will go on to read the front page. However, they may read the headlines, but that is all, then they turn to the sports page, or comics, or advertisements.
It seems that people do not want the news from a newspaper any more. They say they get the news on tele vision now. More people watch television news because it is easier and more interesting than reading a newspaper. What about you Do you read news from a newspaper Do you think it is easier to get news from television Or do you care about news at all Would you mind if there were no news
