阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Orren Fox fell in love with chickens at nine. It was really almost by accident — Orren played in a friend's house whose family had chickens, and he became interested in the animals immediately. Later, he started volunteering every Saturday at a local farm; within a few months the farm owner suggested that Orren get a few chicks of his own.
“I don't know what it was, but something caught my interest,” says Orren, now 14. Today Orren has 23 chickens, four ducks, and 250,000 bees. His happy chickens lay a lot of healthy eggs, which he sells all the year round. He became a vegetarian (素食者) after he learned about the cruelty and negative (消极的) environmental effects of factory farms. In his diary he writes about raising happy chickens and bees, food and healthy eating, farming, and generally making the world a better place. “Farming affects our earth more than anything else,” says Orren. “It's something you have to do correctly, or it will ruin our planet. It's often ignored, but for me, learning about where my food comes from has been really interesting.”
In fall 2009, Orren started a farm club at his school. “I wanted to get people to learn more about farming and what fun it is,” he says.
Orren's passion (热情) for farming and other types of animals continues to grow. He went to the Essex Country Bee School in early 2010 to learn about beekeeping. Orren now has three beehives (蜂箱) of happy bees. In the summer of 2011, Orren started to sell his honey, BeeHappy, to local stores. Next, he wants to raise sheep and goats. “I know a lot more about the environment and how farming affects it, but I still have a lot to learn,” says Orren. “I want to keep doing all of this as I get older.”

Chinese had been added to the graduation exam list by an Italian high school and by the end of last year, 29 students had taken the test.
Sophie Scholl, a high school specializing in linguistics (语言学) in Italy, has become the first school in the country to list Chinese as a graduation exam subject.
The Chinese course has been running at the Italian school for five years, and 145 of its 910 students have chosen to study the language.
Maria Silva Boccardi, director of the school, said Chinese would become a global language in the future and they set up the course because many students asked for it.
“There were only a few schools in Italy that provided Chinese courses back then, by now, Chinese courses have become an important part of our overall teaching plan,” she said.
Roberto, a Sophie Scholl student who took the Chinese test before graduation, said writing Chinese characters was the most difficult part of learning the language.
“Although learning Chinese is difficult for Italian students, when considering looking for job opportunities overseas, China would definitely be my top choice,” he said.
Maria Assunta Contino, a Chinese teacher at Sophie Scholl, said apart from Chinese language, the school also provides Chinese history courses.
Some students from Sophie Scholl also headed to Shenyang, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, for an educational exchange with local Chinese students during the summer holiday last year.
Statistics (统计数字) show that there are now about 150 schools providing Chinese courses in Italy.

Ross Griffiths woke up one morning aged 16 months unable to speak. This five year old boy was only two weeks ago diagnosed (诊断) with a condition so unusual that it hasn't been named and is instead known as 15q11.2.
Ross Griffiths has struggled to get back his communication skills, but has always been too shy to use his sign language away from home and school. But after seeing a video of Middlesbrough's Cleveland Centre Father Christmas signing with three year old Mali Williams, Ross told his mum that he wanted to sign with Father Christmas, too.
Ross and his family went to see Father Christmas yesterday, along with Mali, who was invited back for a second visit. Father Christmas set up the special second meeting with Mali where he gave her a lovely doll.
As crowds of children and parents awaited the arrival of the big man at the shopping centre, Father Christmas took some time out before his duties to meet again with Mali and with Ross before going on to see all the other children.
Ross's mum Becky Lane hoped that a visit to the special Father Christmas would help Ross get over his shyness. The Father Christmas everyone believes in even learned Makaton specially for his meeting with Ross, as this is the communication method the young boy uses.
“He was too frightened to use his sign language outside the house, but when he saw the video of the girl signing with Father Christmas, it showed him he didn't have to be shy. He did really well. And he got a PacMan game as a gift. Now he's not a shy boy any more,” Becky said.

How to become a role model
A role model is someone who a person admires, respects and wishes to imitate. Here is how to be a role model.
__11__ If you see something you don't agree with, don't be afraid to stand up and say something. Others will take note of what you've done and remember it. By standing up for your beliefs, you're encouraging others to do the same.
Help other people in a variety of ways. For example, sign up for a program such as Big Brothers or help some new kids around your school. Many people would like to have someone to look up to, but simply don't. __12__
Act like yourself, not someone you're not. Many people think a role model is someone famous and outstanding. __13__ By being helpful, kind and most importantly, yourself, people will start to admire and look up to you.
__14__ Role models aren't admired because of their greatness, but rather the determination it takes to get there. Even if you're not the best, people will take notice of your hard work and devotion.
Think of who your role models are and the reason for that. __15__ For example, if your role model is a singer who has songs aiming at human rights, volunteering at a charity may achieve the same outcome. Others will take note of this behavior and begin to look up to you.
A.Work hard in everything that you do.
B.Stand up for the things in which you believe.
C.As a role model, you have to take your social responsibilities.
D.You can change this by becoming a helpful person in their life.
E.However, you don't have to be extraordinary to become a role model.
F.Analyze the reason you look up to someone and then imitate that behavior.
G.For example, if you're watching a younger kid being badly treated, help him out.

Dear Lisa,
I am sorry to hear about your experience and I really understand how lonely you must be feeling. I know it's hard to start a new life in a strange city, however, just staying at home doing nothing but going on the Internet is not good for you. You'd better go out and join in some social activities. By doing this, you can get to know more people around you. And it would be a good idea to help others if possible and show them you are open and friendly as well. With time going on, people will get to know you better and want to make friends with you.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
Ⅵ.概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Climate change could turn the Arctic Ocean into a high speed ice superhighway. Large pieces of sea ice in the Arctic are becoming thinner as old ice melts. The new ice that's replacing it travels farther and faster than the older ice had. As the younger ice travels, it carries dirt, organisms (微生物) and pollution along for the ride, new research shows.
Researchers have been tracking the movements of Arctic ice for several years. They noticed that the area covered by ice making the trip from one side of the ocean to the other has grown larger and larger. That movement means that far away reaches of the Arctic are becoming more connected, notes Robert Newton, from Columbia University.
“The speedy ice is a problem,” he explains. “The ice in the Arctic is surprisingly polluted,” he said. “When the ice travels from one part of the Arctic to the other, it carries all that material with it.”
Winds sweep air pollution north from lower latitudes. Much of that pollution can settle into the ocean and onto sea ice. Industries along Arctic coastlines, such as gold mining and oil drilling, also can pollute the region's waters. As new ice forms in fall and winter, that pollution gets trapped inside the ice. When that ice then melts in spring and summer, it'll bring the pollution it carried back into the ocean.
In the study, the researchers put snapshots (快照) of the Arctic together. The pictures came from satellites far above the surface. They used computer software that can recognize the edges of sea ice. This allowed them to follow the movements of ice from forming to melting. To help them do that, they also included tracking buoys (浮标) on the ice that had been equipped with GPS devices.
They found about 60% of Arctic ice travels less than 100 kilometers from its birthplace. The rest covers an area equal to tens of thousands of square kilometers. It can travel hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. And that ice is moving faster as well.
参考范文:
Because of climate change, old ice melts and new thinner ice replace the old one.(要点1) Large pieces of sea ice is moving faster and further from one side of the ocean to the other.(要点2) Meanwhile, winds and industries along Arctic coastlines pollute the ice.(要点3) Therefore, the movement of new ice which carries dirt, organisms and pollution may cause the pollution much quicker.(要点4)
