In no particular order, here are some songs on the Music app of my phone:
On a Sunday Afternoon by Lighter Shade of Brown — A student of mine introduced this rap song to me all the way back in the early 1990s, when I was teaching Spanish at a local university. The story in the song takes place not too far from where I live in Los Angeles. It's a good “driving” song, nothing complicated or “deep”.
Say Something by A Great Big World — A more recent song about a couple losing contact with each other. The piano part is of very little playing but beautiful.
American Pie by Don McLean — Another song from my youth in the 1980s, very popular with almost every American of my generation. It retells some of the key events of the middle 20th century, a song of happy memories of the past and wanting to return to those better times.
The Weight by The Band — Another old song, originally made public in 1968, but one I didn't hear until I was in high school more than 10 years later. I don't understand the words to the song completely, but the feeling of the song is very comforting to me.
Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers — This Los Angeles group wrote a song that I used to listen to when I first moved to LA more than 25 years ago. I didn't know anyone here when I first arrived. When I got bored, I used to drive up and down the major streets that cross the city from east to west, listening to this song about “the city of angels” being as “lonely as I am”. (Don't worry! I have plenty of friends now.)

2.When did the author probably hear The Weight by The Band
A.In 1968. B.In 1970.
C.In the 1980s. D.In the 1990s.
3.When the author first moved to LA, the song he used to listen to was ________.
A.Say Something B.American Pie
C.The Weight D.Under the Bridge
根据最后一段第一句“Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers — This Los Angeles group wrote a song that I used to listen to when I first moved to LA more than 25 years ago”可知,作者最开始到洛杉矶时经常听的一首歌是Under the Bridge。

Do you want to be funny Okay, the first thing you need to do is to relax. No one's going to throw tomatoes at you if you fail to make others laugh, and you're not going for a hard test. You just want to add some fun to your life and conversations, and appear more easygoing. So don't put so much pressure on yourself.
Don't take things too seriously. Ease up on life and yourself; get used to taking things with a grain of salt. See the humor in situations; you'll see that most situations, even getting a $200 speeding ticket or slipping over on a banana peel, have humour written all over them — the trick is finding them and being able to laugh at yourself.
You can't be funny if you don't have any references or material. The broader your general knowledge is, the easier you'll become funny. So the more you know about films, TV programs, music, and everything about pop cultures, the greater the chance of being funny is. Broaden your horizons (视野) and stay up to date with current events in the news.
Find your style. Avoid imitating actors and comedians because it may not suit your style. If you're not a very sarcastic (嘲笑的) person, it makes it hard to imitate someone like Chandler from Friends. If you're rather quiet, it will be nearly impossible to take on Robin Williams' or Jim Carrey's humour.
Have a joke pool. You never know when a situation calls for a joke, like if you're at a boring party, chatting with some acquaintances. Humour yourself with a joke a day to take a break from your daily tasks, and keep the ones you like best in mind. That way, you'll always have several in stock for when the time is right.

5.What does Paragraph 1 mainly advise us to do
A.Try to be funny at any time.
B.Add some fun to our life.
C.Appear to be more easygoing.
D.Avoid putting too much pressure on ourselves.
第一段的“Okay, the first thing you need to do is to relax.”
6.When the writer says “don't take things too seriously”, he probably means ________.
A.we shouldn't care about what we have
B.we can find humour even in difficult situations
C.we should let others know they can laugh at us
D.we should learn to laugh at other people's bad situations
根据作者在第二段所举的例子“even getting a $200 speeding ticket or slipping over on a banana peel, have humour written all over them”可知作者叫我们不要太在意,是告诉我们即使一些不好的处境也可以转化成幽默。
7.What does the writer suggest NOT doing
A.Imitating actors or comedians.
B.Learning about the current events.
C.Learning to laugh at ourselves.
D.Reading more jokes.

The Internet is an amazing tool, especially for children looking to learn. But it also has a dark side. Parents have to ask themselves, “When is the right time to let my child go online?”
This is a far bigger problem than it used to be. Now we live in a time when a family could have more than one computer. It is common for children to have their own computer or laptop. There are also phones and tablets (平板电脑) to think of.
Parents do have difficulty in acting correctly. On the one hand it would be foolish to keep children from the Internet as they can learn a lot from it. But on the other hand, parents shouldn't let children do whatever they like on the Internet. The problem is that everybody is busy nowadays, and this is certainly true for parents. How many people with children have the time to sit down with their kids when they do their homework online Some do, but more are just not able to.
So at what age should children be allowed to use the Internet According to a survey, the average age at which parents said they were happy for independent (独立的) Internet use is a slightly surprising eight years old.
As a non parent, I do find it hard to agree. I always believe that education, as ever, is the key to success. However, I think children as young as eight may face a lot of dangers when they use the Internet without parents being around. So I think schools and parents have a responsibility to teach children not only how to use the Internet, but also how to do so safely.

D.rely more on computers than adults do

9.The author considers the result of the survey ________.
A.interesting B.meaningless
C.unacceptable D.untrue
根据文章倒数第二段中的“...a slightly surprising eight years old”以及最后一段的第一句“As a non parent, I do find it hard to agree”可知,家长认为孩子8岁就可以单独上网的调查结果对于作者来说是不能接受的。
10.What can be used as the best title for the passage
A.Why should children be allowed to use the Internet
B.Should children be allowed to use the Internet alone
C.How should children use the Internet in their free time
D.At what age should children be allowed to use the Internet

I hit the back window of a new car with a hammer. In a flash I was in. I started the car, just like my older brother had taught me. I was 12 then. It seems crazy now. Today, everyone knows me as Donald Driver, a_famous_football_player. I've dedicated (致力于,献身于) my life after football to helping disadvantaged kids around the country.
Mom would have killed me if she'd known what I was up to. My dad had gone to prison while she was pregnant with me. Mom wanted a_better_life for me, my two brothers and two sisters. She worked long hours to support us. But she often fell behind on rent and then we'd have to move. Trouble really started when we moved next door to a man named J. R. Mom trusted him to care us while she was at work, and he did. What Mom didn't know was that J. R. and his friends were dealing drugs.
My older brother Moses and I served as lookouts We knew it was wrong, but the money was too good — D|S100 a night. We broke it into smaller_bills,_and regularly slipped some into Mom's purse. Then Moses discovered we could bring in even more cash by stealing cars. We practiced giving the_same_smile,_hug and kiss for my mom when we came home, no matter what we'd done on the streets.
Now, though, I was about to get caught. The_police got closer. I turned into a back alley. Suddenly, up ahead, a car backed out of a driveway. I saw a little old lady sitting in the driver's seat. But it was too late. I stopped and jumped out to see if the old lady was damaged. The woman, Evelyn_Johnson,_looked angry, but unhurt. “Go sit in my house right now,” she said. It was the tone of voice that no kid can disobey. The police arrived and began to question the old woman.
“The man who did this ran that way,” she said, pointing down the alley.

When the police drove off, Evelyn_Johnson pushed some cookies in front of me.“You've been given an opportunity,” she said.“Don't waste it.There aren't any second chances.” I went back to Miss Johnson's a few days later, trying to do something for damaging her car.I went again the next week, and I kept going back.“How are your grades?” she'd ask.“Did you win the game?” I liked that she cared.Sure, my mom cared, a lot, but she worked so much.Miss Johnson always had the time.Over the years, Miss Johnson had become like a real grandmother to me.
Paragraph 2:
I spent more time studying and football kept me busy too.All throughout the difficulties, I thought about Miss Johnson and the chance she'd given me.I worked hard on the football field and became a_famous_football_player.I turned down an alley to escape the_police.Little did I know I'd find a way to a_better_life than I could ever have imagined.
