字母是英语书写的最小单位。26个字母中Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu五个元音字母，一个半元音字母Yy，其余20个是辅音字母，其中只有Aa和Ii可以独立成词。

Language points
冠词是用来表示名词特性的一种词，冠词与名词是紧密连在一起的。冠词分为两种：
冠词
(1)a/an不定冠词
①a/an用在单数可数名词前面，表示这个人或事物是泛指的不确定的一个，相当于中文的“一个”。
②a用在读音以辅音开头的名词之前，而an用在读音以元音开头的名词之前。
注意：这里指的是读音，而不是字母。如：
a university一所大学(虽然u是元音字母，但不读元音)；an hour一个小时(虽然h不是元音，但单词读音以元音开头)。
(2)the定冠词
the相当于this/that或these/those，用来表示特定的人或事物。the的用法最广，不管是可数名词还是不可数名词，单数还是复数，都可以用the。其用法如下：
①与个体名词连用，表示某个或某些特定的人或事物。
②用在名词前，指说话双方都知道的人或事物。
③特指上文中提到的人或物。
④用在世界上独一无二的事物前。
