Disney decided to build his park in California, and in 1952 he began to buy land. This proved to be a difficult task, since the land he wanted was owned by no fewer than twenty families. In 1954, he sent four members of his staff around the United States looking for ideas at
establishing amusement parks. The only idea on which they found general agreement was that Disney was insane. Owners of other parks said it was impossible to succeed without dangerous rides or using methods that were at least a little dishonest. However, Disney went on with his plans for a clean, safe park, which he decided to call Disneyland.
At last Disneyland was built and opened to the public. Very quickly, it came to be regarded as one of the wonders of the modern world.
Disneyland was a personal satisfaction to Disney. It expressed his ideas of all that is true, good and beautiful in this world. He never tired of visiting the park himself, of expanding it or improving it. Even today, Disneyland is kept spotless Every night, every street and walkway is washed, and workers with knives get down on their hands and knees to scrape out (刮去) chewing gum dropped by visitors.
Disney himself didn't live long enough to visit his Florida park. Death came in December 1966. On the day of his death, this headline appeared in the New York Times:
Walt Disney, 65, dies on coast
Founded an empire (帝国) on a mouse
He was a dreamer who had worked hard to make his dreams come true, and he had brought joy to millions.

2.In the first paragraph, the underlined word “insane” can be replaced by “________”.
A.excited B.mad
C.kind D.interested

Sports skills are developed gradually over a period of time. Not every child will learn every skill at the same speed, but most youth learn skills in the same order. So give yourself and your kid a break, just like when he was learning to walk.
During the first two years of life, many responses from your child are primarily something they do without thinking. Touch his cheek and he turns to find food. Touch his hand and his fingers move. Proud parents of their firstborn son already dream of a football star. Stop there. Do not put a basketball hoop (篮圈) on the side of the bed for your baby. Scientific research tells us that this kind of effort will not work no matter how much you want to give your son a head start. Natural curiosity and interaction (互动) with the environment will benefit the growth of motor activity.
Close your eyes and think real hard. Where does everything that a baby touches go In its mouth! So be real. Little baby footballs, baseball gloves and running shoes may be cute and colorful, but their function as sports equipment is lost when they become baby chew toys. Experts do not regard baby exercise programs as beneficial for development or helpful for future performance. Activities in a safe environment are the way to go.
Once children are a few years old, however, sports skill development starts to take shape, and the preparation process for sports begins. To be learned successfully, sports skills involve a combined interaction between movement, sight and thought. None of these by themselves are completely helpful without the others.
Sports skills require the right sight processing to allow the correct movement response. These skills also require proper brain processing and thinking so the response will be meaningful and useful.
5.Why is a basketball hoop beside the bed useless for a 1 year old
A.It may hurt the baby.
B.It may cause bad dreams.
C.It is too early for the baby.
D.It will affect the baby's growth.
6.What do experts suggest about teaching kids sports skills
A.Creating a safe sports environment.
B.Touching kids' hands often enough.
C.Training these skills in different orders.
D.Training these skills as early as possible.
7.What is the best title for the text
A.Activities for Little Babies
B.Development of Sports Skills
C.Meaningful Physical Training
D.Children's Responses to Learning
C
In the future, people will work fewer hours a week, right Actually, today, more people are working 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, than ever before in modern times. People put in the same hours as workers in the 1860-1870s did. In the 1950s, most people worked a 40 hour workweek. At that time, people predicted that the workweek would continue to decrease. Today, people are asking, “When will I get some free time?”
More people are working longer hours, for two reasons. One reason is the increase in the cost of living. In order to support a family today, people have to work longer hours or work at a second job. Take the example of Lily P. She works in New Jersey as a social worker from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. In the late afternoon and in the evenings, she sees private customers. On the weekends, she works as a caterer It costs so much to support her family, she says, that working less is not possible.
But there is a second reason that people are working more than 40 hours a week. Today, many companies are trying to do more work with fewer workers. Employees feel that they have no choice. If they don't agree to work overtime, they are afraid that they will be fired. Changes in technology make it easier for people to be working all the time. Elaine G. works a flexible schedule so that she can be with her nine month old baby. She spends 24 hours a week at the office. Then she works another 16 hours on her computer at home. She says, “My boss just wants the job done. If I don't finish the work, he thinks I'm not really working at home.” With faxes, cell phones, and e mail, people can work even when they are on vacation.
Where will technology and the demands of the workweek take us If things continue this way into the future, we may never get to leave the office, at least not for long. Or people may begin to say, “This is enough. I need my leisure (休闲的) time.”

Dear Tom,
How is everything going I'm writing to tell you how I spent my vacation on National Day.
Spending four days visiting Beijing, I went there with my parents by train, which was fast and comfortable. On the first day, we went to Tian'anmen Square first, where a large number of people were taking photos. Then, we went to the Palace Museum, thousands of whose houses made me interested. On the next day, we went to the Summer Palace, where the Empress Dowager Ci Xi used to live in summer. On the following day, we went to the Great Wall, which is one of the wonders in the world. Tired, we went back to the hotel that evening. On the last day, we went shopping and bought lots of things. What a happy vacation I had!
Yours,
Li Hua
Excited screams of joy,_the sounds of two happy little girls playing in the sand, rang across the beach. But I walked along, barely aware of it. I'd come to this remote beach on my sailboat, a place to escape. My wife and I had recently separated, our marriage in trouble. I worried about my two boys, just six and eight. It seemed like forever since I'd heard them laugh. But I didn't know what to do to make things better.
“Help! Help!” The girls shouted. I'd meant to tell them to stay away from the dangerous water. Now one of them was in the ocean, beyond the surf_line. I could just hear her screams over the waves. Any second now she'd be swept away. I ran across the sand as fast as I could. The other girl was at the edge of the surf line, yelling.
“Wait! Stop! Don't go any farther!” I charged into the waves and was reaching for her when a wall of water dashed over us. For half a second I saw her disappear under another big wave. I'm a strong swimmer, but I could feel the wave pulling me hard. I swam to her and seized her, her little body shaking, trembling. But where is the other girl I saw a waving arm. A head broke the surface, not far away. The arms of the girl I'd rescued were wrapped desperately around my neck. She was breathing with sobs. “Let go of my neck. I need you on my back. Hold my shoulders so I can swim to your friend.”
She loosed her hands and I shifted her to my back. “She's my sister, Sarah,_and I am Lillian,” she said. For a moment I thought of my boys. How much they loved each other. How much I loved them.
I looked across the water and saw a small head after a big wave. I quickened my swimming, fighting for each breath. Tiny arms pressed against my shoulder. I reached out and held the second little girl. She was in total tiredness,_taking deep breaths, crying quietly.

Paragraph 1:
I swam hard with the two girls and looked toward shore, but I couldn't see anyone.
Paragraph 2:
“Mommy!” The loud cry wakened my consciousness.
Paragraph 1:
I swam hard with the two girls and looked toward shore, but I couldn't see anyone. We were too far away from the beach. I was close to total tiredness. But there was no time to wait. I decided to swim on my stomach. I told Lillian to circle her arms around my shoulder and asked Sarah to hold her sister's arms with both hands. I swam as hard as I could. When I took one last look at the beach, in my mind I saw my wife and children. I could feel their love, and from behind me I felt an incredible force, lifting.
Paragraph 2:
“Mommy!” The loud cry wakened my consciousness. I looked up, a man was trying to drag me out of the water. A woman cried, “Thank you. You saved my daughters.” I tried to comprehend what had happened. My efforts and struggles had paid off. I thought of that giant wave,_lifting and pushing me. I was given the strength I needed. My families were waiting for me. I just needed the strength to make an effort.
