In the city of Bergen on the southwest coast of Norway, a ship begins a long journey that covers almost three thousand miles. As it sails along Norway's coast, the ship services cities, towns, and villages. This ship is sailing the route known as the Norwegian Coastal Express. Along the route, sailors can see glaciers, whales, and great cliffs (峭壁). In total, eleven ships sail this route. It is considered one of the most beautiful journeys in the world. Because of its beautiful views, the Norwegian Coastal Express is a popular sea journey. It also plays an important role in shipping goods and mail as far north as the Arctic Circle.
Many times, waters from the North Pole are subject to winter ice that can completely close off the regular shipping course. Norway, however, is influenced by the warm waters of the North Atlantic Current and light westerly winds. Because of these reasons, Norway has a very comfortable climate (气候).This keeps its ports (港口) almost ice free, even during winter.
A sea captain named Richard With is largely responsible for beginning this shipping service along the Norwegian coast. The first ship left Trondheim on July 2, 1893, heading for the port of Hammerfest. While many people did not believe that the Coastal Express would last long, the service was successful. Soon after, it was added to thirty four ports, which remain in use to this day. The fact that this beautiful sea route has proven not only successful, but also important, is clear from the unofficial name the locals have given it: Highway No.1.

Natural resources in Canada
Canada is very rich in natural resources. It has vast amounts of fuel — oil, gas, coal, uranium for nuclear power, water for hydroelectricity — and these are very important sources of Canadian wealth. The energy resources are mainly located in the west of Canada, in the sparsely populated, harsh terrain (地形).This gives rise to conflict between the east and the west. The western resource producing provinces hate having their wealth carried off to “benefit” the manufacturing eastern provinces.
Agriculture in Canada
Canada does not have favourable conditions for farming because of the quality of land, terrain and climate.Despite the difficulties, agriculture remains important to Canadian economy. The major agriculture region is the Prairie Provinces, which specialize in wheat and cereal production, feeding stock and cattle.Farms tend to be very large. However, agriculture is not an important part of Canadian economy as it used to be.It has become cheaper to import foodstuffs than to produce such items domestically (家庭式地).
Manufacturing industries in Canada
Although Canada remains mainly an exporter of raw resources and an importer of manufactured goods, it does have a variety of industries which produce paper, technological equipment, automobiles, food, clothing and other goods. In terms of research and development of advanced technology, Canada is known for its adoption of nuclear technology for peaceful means, hydroelectricity production, and telecommunications. It also has an innovative aerospace industry.
Service industries in Canada
As is the case in other industrialized countries, more Canadians (over 70%) work in service industries than in manufacturing. The service sector of the Canadian economy includes things like banking, health care, construction, communication, education, tourism and government. Export of services is an important part of Canadian economy, though it is still not strong enough to compete with US firms.

Letters as a way of communication have long given way to phone calls and WeChat messages.
But a TV show, Letters Alive, is helping bring this old way to keep in touch back into the present.
Letters Alive took its idea from a UK program with a similar name, Letters Live, which was first shown in 2013. Both shows feature famous actors and actresses, but there is no gossip, no eye catching visual effects or any regular showbiz (娱乐业) activities. Instead, it's just one person walking up to a microphone and reading a letter.
But these are not just any letters. They are selected from a wide time span (时间跨度) and different subjects. There is, for example, a passionate letter that the famous painter Huang Yongyu wrote to the playwright Cao Yu 30 years ago the criticize his lack of creativity. There is also a heartfelt note from the Spring and Autumn Period written by two ordinary young soldiers to their elder brother to report their lives in the war zone.
Every letter is like a small piece of history. By hearing them being read, it's as if we were sent back in time to experience a moment that we would otherwise never have had the chance to.
“Letters Live makes us pause and imagine the lives behind the letters,” UK actor Benedict Cumberbatch told The Guardian. “It allows people from all ages and all walks of life to experience a moment of time in someone else's life for a brief moment.”
Compared to published texts, letters also come with a personal touch.
One example from Letters Live was a note of thanks from the mother of a dying child to J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. It read: “Mrs Rowling, cancer threatened to take everything from my daughter, and your books turned out to be the castle we so desperately needed to hide in.”
According to Guan Zhengwen, the director of Letters Alive, it is this kind of humanity behind every letter that strikes a chord (引起共鸣) with the audience. It is also what made the show a big hit in China ever since it first aired on Dec 31 on TV.
“It's a thing of the past that entertainment shows establish themselves only with pretty faces,” Guan told Sohu News. “Showbiz is starting to switch to a focus on wisdom and intelligence.”

In America, Virginia Beach has all the elements of a classic seaside resort: brilliant beaches, a lively boardwalk, plenty of restaurants and nightspots, and amusement rides sure to appeal to kids. Many believe Virginia Beach is at its best in the off season, when the town is less crowded but the weather is still mild.
Meanwhile, some safety tips should be followed, enjoying the happiness and excitement the beach offers.
The number 1 safety tip concerns ocean safety: pay attention to flag conditions posted on the lifeguard stands. Lifeguards post a red flag to warn when the ocean water is dangerous. Take them seriously! Tourists from land locked regions are particularly easily attracted by the magic of the waves. However, a calm ocean can become risky without warning. Make sure you swim near a lifeguard. Swimming without lifeguard protection is almost five times as great as drowning at a beach with lifeguards.
Never swim alone. Many drownings involve single swimmers. When you swim with someone else, if one of you has a problem, the other may be able to give help, including signaling for assistance from others.
Don't fight the current. The facts show that some 80% of rescues by lifeguards at ocean beaches are caused by currents. These currents are formed by surf and gravity, because once surf pushes water up the slope of a beach, gravity pulls it back. This can create concentrated rivers of water moving offshore. If you are caught in a rip current, don't fight it by trying to swim directly to shore. Instead, swim parallel to shore until you feel the current relax, then swim to shore. Most rip currents are narrow and a short swim parallel to shore will help bring you to safety.

Research has shown that teenagers' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m. Collins said the schedule, which is used to get students to school for classes that begin at 7:30 a.m., calls for some to get on buses before 6 a.m. to get to school on time. Teachers are having meetings at 6:40 a.m., which is too early, he thinks.
Collins visited the high schools in Rockland and asked students when they would like classes to begin. Most of them said 8:00 a.m. “I was surprised. I thought they would have said 9:00 or 10:00,” he said.
The National Sleep Foundation says on its website that teenagers' biological clocks (生物钟) are designed to stay up later and get up later. The Foundation called for schools to change their schedules, which means a later start as well for elementary students (小学生).
“We do not have enough buses to run, since all the high school and elementary school buses run almost at the same time,” Collins said. He suggested, “We should buy six more buses and get six more drivers to keep the new schedule working.”
Elementary school classes in Rockland now start at 8:30 a.m., but will be moved to 8:45 a.m. starting in the autumn. “I know this is a problem for working parents, but we will see what we can come up with,” said Jane Brown, a teacher at Bardonia Elementary School. “Anyway, I believe if students get more sleep they'll be more ready to learn when classes start,” she added.

I'm walking around a street on Detroit's west side, looking at the house where my mother lived in the 1930s. A neighbor, understandably curious, bounds over.
“I'm the king of Glendale,” Keith Harris says. Harris loves Glendale Street — so much so that he's purchased nine properties for $42, 000. “I'm not done yet,” he says. “I'm going to buy more and rent them.” I'm glad to hear this. Glendale could use more investment. So could Tuxedo Street, a few blocks away, where my father grew up. So could Detroit.
I've seen all the photos showing Detroit in ruins. Now I've come to see for myself what's happened to what was America's fifth largest city around 1950. Then there were more than 1.8 million residents (居民); now there are fewer than 700,000.
This is where my family settled after immigrating to the United States in the 1920s, moving into neighborhoods filled with people just like them.
The handwritten 1940 census (人口普查) page for Tuxedo Street literally illustrates the story: It shows a long list of Jewish names and the places from which Jews fled. The neighborhood was so insular (与世隔绝的) that when my American born mother went to kindergarten, she couldn't speak English.
Those families don't live here anymore. Some houses have become empty lots. But some are tidy symbols of survival and pride. Keith Harris owns one of those homes. “We have clean up the block day,” he tells me. “We are trying to make it better.”
“Visitors like you walk these streets all the time,” he says. “Some people came and cried like babies.” Maybe they shouldn't have. Though much is gone, there are seeds of hope across the city. Harris has planted some of those seeds. “We invest in this block,” he says, “because we want to stay.”
