Ⅰ.阅读理解(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
When I was 7 years old, doctors discovered I had developed a disease called type 1 diabetes (糖尿病). Hearing the news, all I cared about was whether or not I could still eat my favorite food — eggs and sour cream. When I heard the answer was yes, I was happy. I had no idea how much my life was about to change.
Keeping diabetes under control is almost a full time job. In my case, I have to check my levels about 6 to 12 times a day. But even with all that monitoring (监测), there's still a chance that my blood sugar levels could swing dangerously high or low. That was when Jackie came to the rescue. She's a dog that's been trained to smell my blood sugar levels. If she thinks they've dropped or risen, she warns me by giving me her paw or even pulling the covers off me if I'm sleeping.
Explaining my condition to other kids hasn't been easy. When I met my best friend Joanna, the first thing she asked me was about the pack I always wear around my waist. It is used to keep my blood sugar in a healthy range. I was worried that she'd think it was strange, so I lied and said it was a phone. When I finally came_clean,_she didn't care. I felt so relieved.
Though I'll probably have to monitor my blood sugar forever, scientists are working on devices that could make it easier. But they need money first. That's why Joanna and I are traveling to California in October to do a 105 mile bike ride — we'll be raising money for diabetes awareness and research.

A.told the truth B.opened the pack
C.made an apology D.threw the phone away

If the Olympic Games are a history of mankind, wrestling (摔跤) is the prologue (序幕). When the ancient Games of the Olympic were born, wrestling was already an ancient game. Widely recognized as the world's oldest competitive sport, wrestling appeared in a series of Egyptian wall paintings as early as 5,000 years ago. When the ancient Olympic Games began in 776 BC, more than two thousand years later, it included wrestling and in the years that followed, wrestling featured as the main event.
The sport would return in a similar role when the Olympic Games returned after a 1,500 year absence in 1896. Organizers, seeking direct links to ancient times, found wrestling was very popular across much of the ancient world, from Greece, Assyria and Babylon to India, China and Japan. Greco Roman wrestling, a style which was believed to be passed down from the Greek and Roman wrestlers of old was brought back into use.
In Greco Roman wrestling, the wrestlers used only their arms and upper bodies to attack. They could hold only those same parts of their opponents (对手). It worked nicely from a historical attitude, but another cheerful and relaxing style was sweeping across Great Britain and the United States by then. Known as “catch as catch can”, it had become popular at fairs and festivals in both countries.
In 1904, the Olympic Games added the second wrestling event and called it “freestyle”. Now, wrestlers could use their legs for pushing, lifting and tripping, and they could hold opponents above or below the waist.
4.The first ancient Games of the Olympiad were held almost ________ years ago.
A.776 B.1,500
C.3,000 D.5,000

Driving to a friend's house on a recent evening, I was attracted by the sight of the full moon rising just above my friend's rooftop. I stopped to watch it for a few moments, thinking about what a pity it was that most city people — myself included — usually missed sights like this because we spent most of our lives indoors.
My friend had also seen it. He grew up living in a forest in Europe, and the moon meant a lot to him then. It had touched much of his life.
I know the feeling. Last December I took my seven year old daughter to the mountainous jungle of northern India with some friends. We stayed in a log cabin (原木小屋) with no electricity or running hot water. Our group had campfires outside every night and went indoors when it was too cold outside. The moon grew to its fullest during our trip. Between the high mountains and me lay three or four valleys. Not a light shone in them and not a sound could be heard. It was one of the quietest places I had ever known, a bottomless well of silence. And above me was the full moon, which struck me most.
Today our lives are filled with glass, metal, plastic and fiberglass. We have televisions, cell phones, pagers, electricity, heaters, ovens, air conditioners, cars and computers.
Struggling through traffic that evening at the end of a tiring day, I thought, “Before long, I would like to live in a small cottage. There I will grow vegetables, read books and walk in the mountains. And perhaps write, but not in anger. I may become an old man there, and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled and measure out my life in coffee spoons. But I will be able to walk outside on a silent night and be touched by the moon.”
7.Why did the author feel sorry for himself
A.There was too much pollution.
B.He failed to see the full moon in the city.
C.He didn't adapt to modern inventions.
D.There were too many accidents on the road.
8.What impressed the author most in the mountainous jungle of northern India
A.No modern equipment. B.Complete silence.
C.The nice moon. D.The high mountains.
9.Modern things are mentioned in the fourth paragraph mainly to ________.
A.show that the author likes city life very much
B.tell us that people greatly benefit from modern life
C.explain that people have fewer chances to enjoy nature
D.show that we can still enjoy nature at home through them
10.What is the best title for the text

B.The Pleasures of Modern Life
C.A Bottomless Well of Silence
D.Break Away From Modern Life

Ⅵ.概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Some times people complain that getting to work in a big city is no easy matter, just like the popular saying goes, “Taking a bus is too crowded, getting a taxi is too expensive, buying a car is not practical.” It seems that traffic jams and cities go hand in hand. Everyone complains about being stuck in traffic, however, like the weather, no one seems to do anything about it. Needless to say, traffic jam occurs where there are lots of people but limited spaces. However, there are indeed some things you can do to reduce the time you spend in traffic jams.
For example, the highway is not always the fastest way to get from Point A to Point B. Research the area and check online maps to see if you can find a shorter route to work, which usually flows more smoothly during rush hour and can help reduce much of your driving time. From the above you may know that alternative route is of great importance.
Let's take another example. Most of the population works from 8 a.m. to 5 p. m. , which means that the majority of traffic jams happen around 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. So if you want to avoid a traffic jam, talk to your manager about arriving at the office earlier and leaving earlier. If some of us and companies can do like this, the conditions of heavy traffic can be changed in a way.
Finally, you can take gymnastics, dance or yoga classes after work to avoid traffic jams. Actually, there are many reasons for us to take exercise classes and going to the gym, instead of shopping and entertaining friends after work. This is a clever solution that can also help people improve their health and meet others with similar interests.PAGE

This is a clever solution that can also help people improve their health and meet others with similar interests.
