Do you make money doing small jobs If you do, you may have heard of the idea of spending only some of it, saving some of it and donating (捐赠) some to people who need it more.
The head of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and his wife announced they were giving away 99% of their money from Facebook during their lives to help others! That alone is amazing considering most people donate about 3% to 5% of the money they have. It's even more amazing when you realize they're donating about $45 billion. That's $45,000,000,000!!!!Don't worry. They'll still have about $455 million to live on!
They made this decision partly because they had a baby girl, Max, and thought about what kind of world they'd like her to grow up in.It must be an amazing feeling to have that kind of money spent on people in need.Mark Zuckerberg is one of the richest persons in the world, so most of us will never know what that would be like.
But we don't have to be super wealthy to make meaningful change.Sometimes change can come from change!
Ten year old Joey Roth from America started saving up change he found anywhere — around his house, on the street, on his way to school ... And then he started putting it in a jar (广口瓶).He even asked the tooth fairy to donate some change in his letter to her after he lost a tooth! (The tooth fairy is an imaginary person.)
His collection, Jar for Change, has grown into a community wide effort and he has raised over $10,000 all from people dropping coins into jars! The money he raises goes to help connect parents with their very sick babies.
See what these people have done You, too, can make a difference — no matter how old you are, where you live and how much you earn!

A.Joey Roth B.their daughter
C.their education D.their childhood

C.Being the richest person in the world.
D.Giving away $45 billion to help others.
3.What does the author intend to tell us by mentioning Joey Roth's story
A.Everyone can help others.
B.Giving makes people happy.
C.Pocket money can be helpful.
D.Giving is better than receiving.

English is a language particularly rich in idioms (习语), which usually don't obey logical (逻辑的) and grammatical rules. Without idioms English would lose much of its variety and humor both in speech and writing.
In the old days the written language (novels, poems, plays and the Bible) was the source on which idioms were based. This was the case up until World WarⅡ. After the war new mediums (媒介,媒体) had appeared in English speaking society, there was a channel for the American way of life and the popular culture of the U.S. TV, movies and nowadays the interactive mediums have changed the English language more to the American English direction.
How then does American English differ from British English in the use of idioms There are no radical differences in actual use. The main differences are in the situations where idiomatic expressions are used. There have been many studies recently on this subject. American English adopts and creates new idioms at a much faster rate compared to British English. Also the idioms of AmE origin (起点) tend to spread faster and further. After it has first been established in the U.S., an American idiom may soon be found in other“variants (变体)”and dialects of English. Nowadays new British idioms tend to stay on the British Isles and are rarely encountered in the U.S. British idioms are in fact more familiar to other Europeans or to the people of the British Commonwealth than to Americans, even though the language is same.
The future of idiomatic expressions in the English language seems certain. They are more and more based on American English. This development will continue through new mediums like the Internet and interactive mediums. It is hard to say what this will do to idioms and what kind of new idioms are created. This will be an interesting development to follow, and by no means does it lessen the humor, variety and color of English language.
4.According to the first paragraph, we can infer that________.
A.idioms usually aren't created based on logical and grammatical rules
B.idioms mainly come from the written language nowadays
C.American English creates more new idioms than British English
D.British idioms are more important than American idioms
5.When a new idiom is created in America, it will soon________.
A.be used all over the world
B.be laughed at by British people
C.be also found using in England
D.be used only in the United States
6.The future of idiomatic expressions in the English language may mainly rely on ________.
A.American English
B.British English
C.the old idioms
D.language's humor and variety

I've never posted a story before. However, upon graduating from UC Berkeley, with as much financial support as my family could muster (聚集), I now feel the need to thank my sister Mollie.
Mollie started out at UC Santa Cruz two years ago when I was already a junior at Berkeley, at a time when my family could no longer afford to support two college students.
We both started working to pay for our housing while our parents were still paying our tuition. Then we took out loans for tuition too.
After one year of college, my sister moved home to San Francisco, took classes at City College instead and started working full time. She did this by choice and let our whole family think that she wanted to move home anyway, and that it was for her as much as for my parents' financial situation.
Over the past year, I continued to receive any support that my parents could give.
At my graduation two weeks ago, I commented on the fact that my sister was working full time as a waitress and asked if she was going to use the money to travel. She said, “No, I'm saving to go back to UC Santa Cruz.”
This probably sounded crazy, but I had completely forgotten that she was saving up for her own college education and making a sacrifice so that I could finish the last year of mine.
I forgot because she never complained and actually had made a less than perfect situation enjoyable for herself. Mollie has no idea how much I respect her for her quiet generosity and for her ability to turn a negative experience into a positive one.
So ... I guess I'll tell her!
7.How does the author feel about her sister Mollie
A.Puzzled. B.Disappointed.
C.Proud. D.Thankful.
8.Why did Mollie choose to leave UC Santa Cruz
A.She couldn't find a full time job there.
B.She was forced to pay for housing there.
C.Her family was in great financial difficulty.
D.She wanted to stay with her family members.
9.It's most possible that this text first appeared ________.
A.on the Internet B.in a diary
C.in a magazine D.in a letter
10.What could be the best title for the text
A.Save All the Way to College
B.Sacrificed for a Sister's Education
C.Work Full Time for College Education
D.Support from Your Family Does Matter

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Why do parents have such a difficult time to communicate openly and honestly with their teens For this, there are many reasons but most of them stem from (起源于) not being able to properly understand their teens. It is a dangerous gap because parents will have to communicate with their teens about a wide variety of issues during the most important years of their lives. Thus, parents must know how to communicate openly and honestly with their teens.
There are some suggestions to make communication easier between parents and teenagers.
As parents, you should listen to what children said carefully and pay much attention to it. Make them feel as if their views really matter, which not only helps your discussions with your teen but bring you closer to him. Meanwhile, try to remember some of the negative feelings you experienced as a teenager and apply it to your teen's situation. Never make negative remarks to your teen about what he has said or done. Remember how much courage it would have taken for your teen to come and talk to you about his personal issues. If your teen is unusually angry, it may be time to spend a bit of quality time with your teen to determine what is wrong and where he is coming from.
It is, therefore, necessary for parents to strive to keep lines of communication open at all times with their teens. Try to remember what it was like to be a teenager and how vulnerable (脆弱的) you felt. Then you will be well on your way to help your teen communicate more openly and honestly.PAGE

I make it a rule to listen to VOA or the BBC in my spare time to improve my listening. At the same time, I repeat what the speaker says while listening to improve my pronunciation. Besides, watching English movies can combine English learning with relaxation. I always take every chance to speak in class and I am proud of making myself understood in English. Sometimes I practise speaking with my classmates after class. To increase my vocabulary, I have formed the habit of reading English magazines and novels at weekends. I have learned to guess the meaning of new words. In addition, I find keeping a diary in English is helpful.
All in all, I hope all of you have fun learning English.
Then you will be well on your way to help your teen communicate more openly and honestly.
