IV. Teaching steps:
Step1. Greetings and lead in
Have Ss discuss the following questions in pairs. Then have them share their answers with the class.
1. Do you have a favorite singer or band
2. Do you have a favorite song
3. What facts do you know about your favorite singer, band or songs
Step2. Pre-reading
T: Today we will read about a girl named Sarah and find out how country music has changed her life forever. Before reading let’s learn some new words. Ask students to read the passage and complete the fact sheet on page 63. (2b)
Step3. While-reading
1. About country music
T: What do you know about country music Tell students some country music songs: Country road takes me home, Big big world, and so on.
Give students a few minutes to fill the blanks on the paper. Then they will have a brief background on country music.
1). American country music in different times
2). American country music today
3). Instruments
4). Popular singers
The teacher sums up.
2. Read the passage again and underline the main ideas of each paragraph.
3. Reading in details
T: Now use the underlined text to write short answers to the questions in 2c. Who is Sarah Where is she from What does she like Deal with other two paragraphs like this.
Introduce key phrases at the same time.
Check Ss’ answers against the answers on the screen.
Step4. Post-reading
Use the notes you made in 2c to write a short summary of the passage. Write no more than 100 words.
Ask students to do 2e.
Have a good time: Play the song《Yesterday once more》, students listen and fill in the blanks.
Step5. Summary
Tell the students what we learnt in this class and tell the students to write a short summary in our own words, which can help us better understand the text.
