Structure My film review of Under the Hawthorn Tree (2010)
Brief summary of the plot
Jingqiu is one of the “educated youth” sent to be “re-educated” through work in the countryside under a directive from Chairman Mao. Laosan was a geology student with responsible and honorable character. They fell in love with each other. However, Laosan developed leukemia and forced himself to leave Jingqiu. She was only reunited with him when he was dying in hospital.

Structure My film review of Under the Hawthorn Tree (2010)
Attractive scenes and /or drawbacks
According to My Paper, the two actors “bring a touching believability to this tale of young love”. I agree with a website stating that “Zhang expresses his view of innocence in a soft, almost feminine approach”.

Comments and recommendations
This movie conveys that there could still be pure love and we shouldn’t lose faith in love. Although it received a 6.9 rating from Douban, you still shouldn’t miss watching it if you are curious about what love is.

Edit your film review in pairs. Then share what you have written in class.
The Road to Heaven
The Road to Heaven is a new film by the famous and well-liked writer and director, Dee O’Connor. The story is about a group of friends who decide to travel around the world together. They expect things will go smoothly but owing to an unexpected guest, it most certainly doesn’t. Comedy is not my preferred genre so I wasn’t excited about watching this; however, I must say I loved it!

Post-writing
I found it unusual that they used a cast of new and unknown actors, which is risky, but here it pays off. It lasts two hours—it is just the right length for this type of film. Overall, it is light, fun and exciting—a perfect choice for your whole family.
If you have seen it already and have any opinions to share, please comment under here and let us know what you think.

Wonder Woman 1984
There used to be a time when you could follow a Hollywood blockbuster even if you hadn’t memorized all the prequels, sequels and characters’ family trees.
There have been recent examples, I know, but the time when those family-friendly blockbusters were made most regularly was the 1980s. That’s why Wonder Woman 1984 is so ingenious.
Post-writing
It’s set in the 80s, and it includes all the shoulder pads, perms, pop songs and so on. But what’s remarkable is how close it is to being a 1980s blockbuster itself.
A funny, sweet-natured, brightly-coloured standalone adventure, it makes people think of the likes of Raiders of The Lost Ark and Ghostbusters in its jokes, its plotting, its locations and its general atmosphere that it fills you with the same warm feelings that they did—one of those feelings being wonder.

Men in Black 3
It’s been a decade since the last MIB film was released. We kind of missed the series even though Men In Black 2 wasn’t really that good. In this sequel, it’s pretty small and unnecessary but it still has the charms and bright imagination, great performances and solid visuals. It also has the same tone of the original Men In Black films. It’s a wonderful action, adventure movie with non-stop enjoyment.
Post-writing
Thankfully, it does not follow the modern blockbuster roots and stay loyal to its own. By the way, this is a comical action film. It may not be a large one but what matters here is the fun characters. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones still got it but who shines here is Josh Brolin. He can perfectly imitate the facial expression and voice of Agent K and it’s a lot better when he’s around.
