The Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called
the Duanwu Festival,is celebrated(庆祝)
on the fifth day of the fifth month according
to (根据) the Chinese calendar(日历).
This festival is to memorize the death of
Qu Yuan, an honest poet and a hero
who is said to have committed suicide(自杀)
by drowning(淹死) himself in a river. The
most important activity of this festival is
the Dragon Boat races. It is a symbol of
people‘s attempts to save Qu Yuan. In
the current period, these races also
means the spirit of cooperation and
teamwork.
Besides, the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi. Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with(夹着) different fillings(填充物) and wrapped (包裹) in bamboo or reed(芦苇) leaves. People who mourned(哀悼) the death of Qu by throwing zong zi into the river to feed his ghost every year.
  With the changes of the times, the memorial turns to be a time for protection from evil(邪恶) and disease for the rest of year. People will hang healthy herbs on the front door to clear the bad luck of the house. Although the meaning of the festival might be different with the past, it still gives us an opportunity to understand a part of the rich Chinese cultural heritage(遗产).

unity(团圆) and perfection.
Lantern Festival is an important
part of Spring Festival ,
and marks the official(正式的)
end of the long holiday.
The Lantern Festival
According to(根据) one legend, once in ancient(古代) times,
a celestial(天人) swan came into the mortal(凡人) world where
it was shot down by a hunter. The Jade Emperor, the highest
god in Heaven, vowed to avenge(报复) the swan. He started
making plans to send a troop of celestial soldiers to Earth on
the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, with orders to
Incinerate(焚烧) all humans and animals. But the other
celestial humans disagreed with this action, and risked(冒险)
their lives to warn the people of Earth.
The origin(起源) of the Lantern Festival
As a result, before and after the fifteenth day of the
first month, every family hung(悬挂) red lanterns outside
their doors and set off firecrackers(鞭炮) and fireworks,
giving the impression that their homes were already
burning. By successfully tricking(欺骗) the Jade Emperor
in this way, humanity(人类) was saved from
extermination(消除).
