Something strange has been happening to me lately: Women in the street have been telling me I’m brave. My act of courage isn’t much —____6____
I had brown hair that started going gray when I was 30. So, like a lot of women, I started dyeing it. ____7____ And my hair grew fast, so I needed to go back to the hair salon every five weeks. Many people seem to enjoy holding on to their youth for as long as possible. But our hair starts to turn gray and we start spending $500 or more a year to cover something our male colleagues don’t need to cover.
____8____ — my mother is 91 and still has “blond” hair, and why not I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves because going gray has done more for me than saving me time and money. ____9____ I like how it has gotten curly and full again. It is recovering after years of being damaged by chemicals. I also like that it has given me some needed perspective in a society that makes youth seem so important, while being against maturity.
When I see my hair in the mirror, it’s a reminder that my time is not infinite, and I should spend it doing what matters. ____10____ I see my gray hair as a little act of rebellion against the idea that people lose value as they age, instead of gaining it.

For the first time, I started to listen to things I’d never listened to before, like the drums. ___12___ For the first time I started to really appreciate the power of the bass guitar, and the huge part it played in music. How was it possible that I’d never really heard it before I started to pay attention to what all the different instruments were doing and it blew my mind.
___13___ It was richer and more fascinating, and I started to appreciate it so much more than I had ever before. I found that becoming a creator, rather than a consumer, turned me from a receiver into a producer. ___14___ I started to collect stories, moments, feelings, quotes, and jokes. Eventually, I did reach my dream of being on MTV.
Music taught me a lot about being a creator. The world is so full of stuff that it’s easy to sit back and just consume it. ___15___ It quickly makes you aware of your shortcomings and your lack of knowledge. Yet, moving from a consumer to a creator in every area of life will open your eyes and your senses to so many fascinating things.

1.
根据上文“His father played the piano by ear. (他父亲靠听觉弹奏钢琴)”和下文“So at the age of six, Richard started piano lessons at home.
2.
根据上文“At the age of 13, Renald Richard went to see a band perform at a church dance. It was very amazing and he decided to play the trumpet. 太令人惊奇了,他决定吹小号)”和下文“Then in Houston, Texas in 1954, Richard was approached by Jeff Brown, the manager of musician Ray Charles.
3.
根据下文“He just got a hit record out and he would be interested in you playing the trumpet in the band. 故选A。
4.
结合上文雷·查尔斯邀请理查德成为乐队小号手和下文““First of all, to be selected by Ray Charles was an honor to me. I was honored by that and a little nervous.” In time, Richard became Charles’ bandleader.
5.
根据上文“Richard stayed friendly with Ray Charles over the years. (理查德和雷·查尔斯多年来一直保持着友好关系)”和下文“Four years later, he moved again, this time to New York City.

6.
根据下文“I had brown hair that started going gray when I was 30. So, like a lot of women, I started dyeing it.(我的头发是棕色的,30岁时开始变白。所以,像很多女人一样,我开始染头发)”以及第三段“I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves because going gray has done more for me than saving me time and money. 能承接上文“Women in the street have been telling me I’m brave. My act of courage isn’t much(街上的女人都说我很勇敢。
7.
根据下文“And my hair grew fast, so I needed to go back to the hair salon every five weeks. Many people seem to enjoy holding on to their youth for as long as possible. But our hair starts to turn gray and we start spending $500 or more a year to cover something our male colleagues don’t need to cover.

10.
根据上文“When I see my hair in the mirror, it’s a reminder that my time is not infinite, and I should spend it doing what matters.(当我在镜子里看到自己的头发时,它提醒我,我的时间不是无限的,我应该把它花在重要的事情上)”可知,当我们的头发变白了,我们应该知道我们的时间更宝贵了,更应把时间花在重要的事情上,而不是忽略这个问题,故选项G“假装它没有发生是我们放弃我们权力的一种方式。”符合语境,进而引出下文的哲理“I see my gray hair as a little act of rebellion against the idea that people lose value as they age, instead of gaining it.(我把我的白发看作是对“人的价值会随着年龄的增长而下降,而不是增加”这一观点的小小反抗)”,故选G。

6.上文“I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day.(我是一名视觉与表演艺术学院的学生,每天都在创作各种各样的艺术作品)”,下文“But I don’t think those people truly know the difficulties and struggles in the process of making art.(但是我认为那些人并不是真正了解艺术创作过程中的艰辛。)” A项“Outsiders think our jobs easy.(外人认为我们的工作很容易。)”恰好与之对应,下文的those people指代A项中的Outsiders, 下文的difficult也与A项中的easy对应。故选A项。
7.上文“First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art.(首先,我们需要灵感。 而下文“Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard.(有时我们需要人、志愿者、人模来做这些,而找到愿意做这些工作的人很难。)” 因此中间需要有过度,E项“The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality.(我们要把想法变为实际时,困难就来了。)”
8.本题设空处位于段首,根据下文“We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources.(我们需要一个能够发挥创造力的空间,而这很难获得。 结合选项可知,D项“Resources are also a huge factor in making art.(资源也是艺术创作的一个重要因素。)”
9.上文“The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work.(这个过程可能需要几周、几个月、甚至几年的时间才能完全实现。 提到了作品完成后会做的事情;下文“What if nobody likes what we created What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed (如果没有人喜欢我们创造的东西怎么办? 是对完成作品后可能出现问题的假设,且都是一些消极的想法,F项“And the negative thoughts love to overpower our minds.(我们的大脑里总是充斥着各种消极的想法。)”
10.上文“Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think.(艺术创作本身就是一种艺术。 总结性地提到了艺术创作并不是那么容易的;下文“It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world.(它是我们表达自我的方式,也是我们与世界交流的方式。)” G项“It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected.(当事情不像预期那样发展时,需要时间、耐心和空间。)”

Is It Safe to Eat Snow
There’s nothing quite like a fresh blanket of pure, white snow. Great for sledding, snowballs, fort-building — and maybe even dessert Before you take a big bite of the white stuff, let’s talk about what could be in the flakes (雪片).___36___. When it gets cold, moisture (水分) in the air freezes into tiny, beautiful crystals that drift down from the sky.
___37___. For example, if snow has been removed from a sidewalk or a street, it might contain rock salt with certain chemicals, which help ice melt at low temperature. Unfortunately, those chemicals can also make you sick if you eat them, so you definitely don’t want to eat any snow that’s been shoveled (铲掉).
You should never take small bites on any snow near bird feeders or animal tracks. ___38___, squirrels, birds, neighborhood dogs for example, it may carry something not safe to you. Brown snow is off limits for the same reason you wouldn’t want to taste a mud pie. And if that snow looks yellow, well, let’s just say it’s unlikely to be lemon-flavored.
OK, so what about freshly fallen snow ___39___. But actually, because snow can take in pollutants on the way down, the first hour or two of a snowfall acts like a brush for the air. Scientists have found that new snow can contain strange stuff including pesticides, ashes and even dirt.
All of these things are found at extremely low levels. That means it’s technically safe to eat. But it’s also good to know that if you just wait a few hours and then have a meal on the snow that piles up midway through a storm, you’ll have the best chance of eating nothing more than pure, frozen, sky water. ___40___!
A.Snow is mostly water
B.Let’s take a close look
C.Try not to have any taste of the snow
D.But snow can also contain other substances
E.Because snow can act like a pathway for animals

下文“When it gets cold, moisture (水分) in the air freezes into tiny, beautiful crystals that drift down from the sky. 故选A。
37.
由后文“For example, if snow has been removed from a sidewalk or a street, it might contain rock salt with certain chemicals, which help ice melt at low temperature.(例如,如果人行道或街道上的雪被清除,其中可能含有某些化学物质的岩盐,这有助于冰在低温下融化。)”
