一、Teaching aims教学目标:

学习掌握下列单词:
weight, shoulder, goal, coach, kick, besides, teammate, courage, guy , pull, relief, nod, agreement, fault, disappoint
能掌握下列短语:
keep eyes on the ground , the winning team , on the shoulder, on the soccer field, miss scoring the goal , let …down, kick sb. off , be hard on sb., support each other, rather than, pull together, nod in agreement, to his surprise and relief
能掌握以下句型:
1. He felt like there was a heavy weight on his shoulders as he walked home alone.
2. The other half is learning how to communicate with your teammates and learning from your mistakes.
3. Peter didn’t say anything, but what his father said made him think carefully.
4. The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with courage rather than fear in his heart.
5. I think if we continue to pull together, we’re going to win the next one.

三、Teaching Procedure教学过程:
Step One.Warming- up (2m)
1. Ask the monitor to do the duty report.
2. Enjoy a music before class . Talk about the song You Make Me Happy.
T: Before class, we listened to a song. How do you feel about this song Can you remember the first lyrics
Ss: Make me happy.
T: Yes , make me happy. Can it make you happy What other things can make you happy
Ss: Money, friendship, love,...
Step Two. Revision (3m)
Show some pictures and words.
T: Can these things make you happy Maybe. In fact, happiness comes from within your heart. As the saying says: Enough is as good as feast. So even small things can make us happy.
Revise the words about feelings. Ask students to list the words about feelings as much as possible .
Read the words given together.
Step Three. Listening (5m)
1. Free talk . Work on 2a.
T: Are you always happy Sometimes we may feel sad. In the English exam last week, I was so nervous that I made a mistake. It made me feel very angry about myself. What’s my mistake
Ss: Spelling mistake.
2. T: Have you made a big mistake or you failed in an important exam Talk to your partner about what happened How did it make you feel
S: worried, upset, feel a heavy weight on my shoulders...
T: As we all know , anyone can make mistakes . Peter, a football player, also made a mistake. What’s his mistake Look at the sentences on P87 first, then listen to the tape, try to put them in right order.
3. Work on 2b. Listen to the tape. Skim the story and number the events in the correct order.
4. Ask students to do it by themselves first, then discuss with their group members.

5. Ask students to show the answers.
Step Four. Reading (6m)
1. T: Are you interested in Peter’s story Do you want to know more about the story OK ! Let’s come to 2c. Read the story and answer the questions. Discuss in groups.
1) Why did Peter feel angry and worried
2) What kind of advice did Peter’s father offer to his son
3) Do you agree with Peter’s father Why or why not
4) What happened after Peter told his teammates that he was sorry
5) Why did Peter think that he was on a winning team even though they lost the last game
2. Ask students to present the answers.
Step Five. Practice ( 4m)
1.T: In this lesson, there is a reading strategies: Recognizing idioms and phrases .Knowing the meaning of idioms and verb phrases can improve your English. Now , let’s work on 2d. Find idioms or phrases from the story to replace the underlined parts of these sentences.
1). He could not believe that he did not get the ball into the basket.
2). She was worried because she had disappointed her parents.
3). Tony was sad that he was asked to leave the team.
4). You should learn to relax and not put so much pressure on yourself.
5). The teacher told the students to work hard together and not give up.
2. Ask students to discuss in groups freely.
3. Ask students to show the answers group by group.
Step Six. Role-play (6m)
T: From the text, we know that What Peter’s father said gave his son a lot of confidence. Father’s words are meaningful. Do you think so Let’s make a conversation between Peter and his father.
The students are free to make conversations in pairs .The teacher walk around to help the students .
Ask several pairs to act out in front of the class.
Step 6. Language points ( 5m)
1.Ask the students to study the language points and fill in the blanks .If the have any questions ,they can discuss with group members.
2. The teacher walk around to offer help to the students who need it.
