One evening, two young men were walking in the street together. They tried to find a chance to steal something.
The clock struck twelve. Most of the people went to bed. Quickly they came to a house and it seemed that everyone in the house had fallen asleep. Standing at the front gate, one_said_in_English_to_the_other_in_a_low_voice,_“You wait here. I’ll walk around to the back door and then get into the house.”

Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything.
Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达) of information, means of communication such as a letter or a message”. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse.
This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let the incident munication is the key factor here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn’t a one way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, tell the other person how you feel — listening is the key factor to communication.
4.In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is ________ than with children.
A.more difficult B.easier

A.the importance of friendship

A.Sophie is very polite to her parents
B.Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her
C.explanation is the best way to solve a problem
D.communication is the solution (解决办法) to misunderstanding
7.All the following statements are correct EXCEPT ________.
A.If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know
B.It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing
C.If you are not able to communicate, walk away
D.Communication is a two way deal

I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. So we both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”
Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.

Last week was Sports Day at my daughter’s school. She was part of the Yellow House. She had to wear yellow and race for points. The Yellow House won. I was really pleased for my daughter because last year the Green House won. In fact, when the winning house was announced last year, many little faces turned sour. Losing is never fun. From a young age children know that winning is the best result. As parents, we can talk to children about the importance of everyone having a chance to win; we can teach our children to be happy for their friends when a friend wins.
As children grow older they will be exposed to more and more competition. It is important that we teach our children to learn to “bounce back” from losses, to experience loss in a positive way and to keep on going even when they don’t achieve the desired outcome.
By teaching children now to be resilient (适应性强的), we can prepare them for adult life in the future. Our children can learn to compete for fun and learn how to bounce back from life’s failures and disappointments.
We can talk to our children about competition. We can teach by example and show our kids that losing a game or failing a test is not the end. Losing is simply a chance to try again and a chance to become more successful.
Raising emotionally healthy children is very important for the future generation and by teaching our children the above principles we can help them to overcome the difficulties of life and they will learn to compete in healthy ways throughout their lives.
12.In the first paragraph, the author intends to ________.
A.describe the sports event

A.Preparing children for future life.
B.Raising emotionally healthy children.
C.Teaching children to face failure bravely.
D.Teaching children about healthy competition.
15.In which column of a newspaper is the text likely to appear
A.Health. B.Education.
C.Science. D.Entertainment.

A.Sophie is very polite to her parents
B.Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her

7.All the following statements are correct EXCEPT ________.
A.If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know
B.It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing
C.If you are not able to communicate, walk away
D.Communication is a two way deal

It is important to teach your dog to guard you and the other members of your family against danger. Here are some tips on how to train your dog to protect you.
Use proper commands.
A dog acts according to how it has been trained. The only way to do this is through commands and your own body actions and sounds. __16__ Soon, whenever you use the command “Attack!”, your dog will understand that it needs to fight the thing you are pointing at. __17__ This exercise is very important because it will help the dog distinguish (辨别) between good people and bad people. People who are good will be those who are allowed to come close to it and pat it.
__18__
Teach your dog to keep a check on the house by taking it around the house and making it sniff (嗅) the area. You will need to do this a couple of times so that the dog understands that it needs to keep a check every night. After a few days, the dog will begin to do this exercise on its own. It will check the house and return back indoors.
__19__
Giving rewards such as a pat, a hug, verbal praise“Good dog!” or treats is an excellent way of letting the dog know that you are happy with its behavior. Since you are the master, it is your duty to make sure your dog is rewarded for its good behavior and punished for its bad behavior. Punishment involves scolding the dog by using the command “Bad dog!” or “No, very bad!” __20__
A.Teach night guarding.
B.Reward it for its good behavior.
C.Command the dog to attack by saying the word “attack” loudly.
D.An older dog can also be trained to protect its master.
E.A good guard dog is friendly to the people around it.
F.This will help the dog learn that it mustn’t do certain things.

参考范文:
My new English teacher is a woman called Mrs. Li. Tall with short hair, she looks almost the same age as my mom. Whenever I see her, she wears a suit. Though she always wears a smile on her face, she is so strict with us that she never lets go of a tiny mistake. Her class covers many interesting activities such as games and puzzles, in which students can take an active part. As an experienced teacher, she teaches different students in different ways. It seems that her teaching can meet the needs of all students. What impresses me most is that she treats all students equally, whether they are smart or not. I really like Mrs. Li and enjoy attending her class.
