Did you know that a turtle (乌龟) can lay 12 eggs in one minute A large sea turtle lays around 150 eggs at a time. She lays all these eggs in just a few minutes.
Large sea turtles live in the warm seas of the world. Except for when they lay their eggs, they spend their whole lives in the water. When it is time to lay their eggs, the females swim to land ...
They usually return to the place where they themselves were born. How they find their way back there is unknown. When they reach shore, the big, heavy turtles crawl slowly up to the high water mark. Using their flippers (脚蹼), they pull themselves along the sand. They must struggle like mountain climbers. When they finally reach dry sand, they rest before beginning the difficult task of laying eggs.
The turtles lay the eggs in deep holes and cover them with warm sand. The sand protects the eggs from harm. Then the females leave them. After a few weeks, if you happened to be walking along the beach, you might see the sand begin to shake. You may see tiny black balls coming out of the sand. The tiny heads of baby turtles!

Education is not an end, but a means to an end. In other words, we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them. Our purpose is to fit them for life.
In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable to think that by free education for all whether rich or poor, clever or stupid, one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough: we find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees; they refuse to do what they think “low” work; and in fact, work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful. But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated farmer is far more important than that of a professor; we can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we would get terrible diseases in our towns.
In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life, it means that we are educated in such a way that, firstly, each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability, and secondly, that we realize that all jobs are necessary to society, and that it is very bad to be ashamed of one’s work. Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society.
5.The writer of this passage thinks that ________.
A.free education for all probably leads to a perfect world
B.free education can solve all of the world’s problems
C.free education won’t help to solve social problems
D.all the social problems can’t be solved by free education
6.The writer wants to prove that ________.
A.a farmer is more important than a professor
B.our society needs all kinds of jobs
C.our society needs free education for all
D.people with university degrees earn more money
7.According to the passage, ________.
A.work with hands is low work
B.work with hands is dirty and shameful
C.work with hands is the most important
D.we can’t regard work with hands as low work
8.The purpose of education is to ________.
A.choose a system of education
B.let everyone receive education
C.prepare children for their future life
D.prepare children for well paid jobs

Loch Lomond is one of our favorite places to visit every autumn. It’s a trip we look forward to because autumn brings new natural colors. After a summer of staying in the garden, it can be refreshing to get out of the city and enjoy the natural beauty.
We usually visit the tiny village of Balmaha, where many things are on sale. The area is part of Loch Lomond and the Trossaches National Park is a visitor center in Balmaha, which also marks the start of the path for Conic Hill. This is one of our favorite family friendly hills as it can be completed in two hours.
Balmaha boatyard runs trips to the villages of Luss and Balloch. You can also take a waterbus to the nearby island of Inchcailloch, which is covered by woods and a heaven for wildlife. The island has three paths, two of which are suitable for young children, and a picnic area with toilets.
We also love driving a few miles along the shore from Balmaha to Rowardennan. The West Highland Way passes through this area, which is located at the foot of Ben Lomond. There are a number of clearly marked walking paths to choose from. During the autumn months there’s a real sense of peace as you walk alone through the oak trees.
There are a few places to hire canoes, row boats and bikes in the area. The eastern shore of Loch Lomond is one of my family’s favorite escapes and an ideal place to walk, camp, picnic and recharge our batteries before the short, dark days of winter.

When studying foreign speech, don’t forget about body language. In order to help you know more about these important parts of communication, here are four non verbal characteristics that change from culture to culture.
Gestures. When trying to communicate through a language barrier, it’s natural to use gestures as a way of explaining your point. Silence. Though it can feel like an emptiness in communication, silence can be very meaningful in different cultures. In some interactions at work, school, or with friends, silence is often regarded as a sign of disinterests. In other cultures, however, silence is not viewed as a negative meanings. __18__
Touch. Britain is classed as a “non contact” country, in which there’s very little physical contact in people’s daily interactions. __19__By comparison, in the high contact cultures of the Middle East, physical touch is a big part of social life.
Eye Contact. __20__We think that a conversation partner who looks away is either indifferent or lying. Of course, this is not a standard around the world.
A.Language learners will put a lot of time into learning gestures.
B.However, the wrong gesture can make people confused.
C.In China, silence can be used to show agreement.
D.In most western countries, frequent eye contact is a sign of confidence.

B选项中“However, the wrong gesture can make people confused.”
而G选项“Even nodding yes can be misunderstood abroad.” yes no gestures是信息词。故选G。
而C选项“In China, silence can be used to show agreement.”
可推知F选项“Even accidently brushing someone’s arm is a reason for an apology.”

Attention, please! I’m going to give you a summary of today’s discussion about whether we should go online in our spare time.
Some students suggest that we go online in our spare time because we are free then. Through the Internet, we can gain plenty of the newest knowledge and the latest news at home and abroad. What’s more, network offers us a convenient way to communicate with each other. Besides, the Internet makes our lives outside class colorful and various.
On the other hand, a few students are against surfing the Internet. They suggest a time limit. They’ve found that most students are playing computer games instead of learning their lessons. There are a few students who are often absent from school for days.
I do hope we can make a good balance between going online and learning. As students, what’s the most important thing is that we should concentrate on our study.
