Unit 9 What does he look like
Period One(Section A 1a-1c)
教学目标(Teaching objectives):
1.知识与能力(Knowledge and ability objects):
Students should be able to describe people’s looks
2.过程与方法(Method objects):
观察名人及周围的人并用恰当的语言去描述; 师生对话; 小组活动;借助多媒体来提高学生的主动性。
3.情感目标(Moral objects):
通过观察和描述人物,增进人与人之间的关系; 学会做一个有爱心的人,关怀身边的家人和朋友。
教学重点(The important point):
1.The vocabulary:hair,curly,straight,tall,medium,height,thin,heavy,build,like
2.Language:What do you look like?/ What does she/he look like?
教学难点(The difficult point):
Use the language to talk about people’s looks
教学过程(Teaching procedures):
Step 1 Warming-up and Leading in (2m)
①T: Boys and girls, look at me, what do I look like (指着自己的头发来提示学生)
Ss: You have long hair.
T: Yes, I have long straight hair. And I am….(指着自己的身高和体型)
Ss: You are tall and thin.
T:Good! I am tall and thin.
…….
②找出三名外貌差异较大的学生来做比较,一个胖而高大的男生( a fat and tall boy), 一个瘦而较矮的男生( a thin and short boy), 一个中等身材(of medium height)。
然后用这三名学生为例教heavy, tall, thin, short, of medium height等引出句型:
(1). What does he look like He’s really tall. He has long straight hair.
(2).What does she look like She’s of medium height/build.
……
设计意图:引起学生的学习兴趣,了解人物的外貌特征,(即不管外貌如何在不同的游戏中都能获胜)的对比培养学生的情感和态度:不要以貌取人(Don’t judge by appearance)。
Step 2 Present the new words (4m)
(Play PPT. Point to Picture 1)
T: Look at Picture 1.Who is he
Ss: He is Yao Ming.
T: What does he do
Ss: He is a basketball player.
T: Yes. He has short straight hair. Can you guess the meaning of the word “straight”
Ss: “直的”
T: Yes, very good. Now read after me “What does he look like He has short straight hair.”
Ss: What does he look like He has short straight hair.
(Use the same way to teach the other new words.)
设计意图:利用图片展示引入新单词,让学生熟悉。由于学生的年龄特征所定,他们对形象的事物特别感兴趣,于是采用了大量的人物图片。本课的教学内容主要是要求描述人物的发型与身材,所以选了一些有代表性的图片。比如:高个——姚明;矮个——潘长江;胖的——韩红;瘦的——大S等等。让学生一看就能明白这些单词的含义。
Step 3 Pairwork & Groupwork (8m)
1.Get students in pairs/groups to use the language to describe the famous people, or talk about his/her partner or friends’ looks.
2.Let some pairs/groups play a role.
① S1: What does he look like (point to a boy star)
S2: He’s really tall. He has long straight hair.
② S1: What does she look like (point to a girl star)
S2: She’s of medium height/build.
③设置情境:两位朋友在一起讨论旁边几个体型高矮不一样的朋友。
S1: Look! My friend Tom and Mary are over there.
S2: What does Tom look like
S1: He is tall and thin. He has curly hair.
S2: Oh, I see him. He is wearing blue coat. And What does Mary look like
S1: She has long straight hair. She is short.
S2: And she wears a pair of glasses, right
S1: Yes, you’re right.
设计意图:利用身边的例子,要求其他同学按发形,身高,体重的类别描述三位外貌典型的同学,再小组练习。这样更形象,更贴近生活,学生更容易接受,且加强了学生间的合作与交流。
Step 4 Go in the text (1a) (6m)
T: Now please look at P41.Use the letters to match the people in the picture with one of the numbered words. Write each letter next to a numbered word. You can use some letters more the once.
(About two minutes later)
T: Who can tell me the answer
S1:The answers are 1.c, 2.f, 3.a, 4.a, 5.d, 6.h, 7.e, 8.b, 9.g, 10.e.
设计意图:进一步巩固所学的新单词。
Step 5 Listening (1b) (3m)
T: I have a good friend. Her name is Amy. Look, this is Amy. Now she comes to the station to meet her friend. But there are so many people. She can’t find her friend. Can you help her Now let’s listen to the tape and help Amy find her friend. OK (After Listening)
T: Who can tell me what Amy’s friend look like
S1: He is really tall. And he has curly hair.
设计意图:训练学生的听说能力。
Step 6 Play a game (5m)
Guess “Who is he/she ”
(1) T: Now please use the words and the drill we have learned in this class to describe yourself to your classmates.
S1: I’m tall. I’m thin. I have long curly hair.
S2: I’m of medium build. I’m short. I have short straight hair.

(2) Then ask Ss to describe anyone in the classroom. Let the others guess.
( the teacher gives the Ss an example.)
S1: He is tall and thin. He has short black hair and he is thin. He likes wearing a white T-shirt. He is a little funny. Can you guess who he is
Ss: Is he Chen long
S1: No, he isn’t.
Ss: Is he Gao Haiqi
S1: Yes. You’re right.
(Use the same way to teach the other new words.)
设计意图:通过描述自己的外貌特征,让每个学生都积极参与到本节课的学习中,并且还让他们明白“人不可貌相”。让学生通过他人的描述,去发现别人的外部特征。培养学生听、说以及辨别能力,同时可活跃课堂气氛。
Step 7 Writing (8m)
Write a passage about your favorite star. These questions may help you.
What’s your favorite star’s name
What does he/she like to wear
What does he/she look like
Why do you like him/her
Sample: My favorite star is Li Xiaomeng. She’s beautiful. She always wears a white T-
shirt and jeans. She is tall and thin. She has short curly hair. She has big eyes and
a small mouth. I like her because she is cute and fun.
(Ask some students to come to the blackboard and read out their passages.)
Step 8 Do some exercises (3m)
Let students do some exercises, give them some minutes to translate these sentences.
Then ask some students to check the answers.
Have students read the sentences.
1. 你的父亲长得什么样子?
2. 他中等身材,长长的头发.
3. 他长得很高,卷头发。
4. 玛丽中等身高.
答案:1. What does your father look like
2. He is of medium build and has long hair.
3. He is very tall and has curly hair.
4. Mary is of medium height.
Step 9 Summary (1m)
(1)Summary : In this class we have learned some new words and drills to describe people’s looks. New words: hair, curly, straight, tall, medium, height, thin, heavy, build
New drill: What does/do sb. look like
He’s tall/heavy/of medium height(build).
She has long straight hair.
