Step 1 Review
Greet the class as usual .
Have students say the forms of the comparative and superlative degrees with adjectives and the main usages of the comparatives with adjectives and adverbs .
Have students finish Self Check 1 by themselves.
Then check answers , ask two students to report their answers .
Step 2 Presentation
Show a picture of a panda and a picture of an elephant .Tell students about their height ,weight and how much food they eat every day .Then teach these sentences :
This elephant weighs many times more than this panda .
This elephant is 200 cm taller than this panda .
Explain the structure “multiple /numeral + comparative degree +than ...” and tell students that we often add multiple or numeral before the comparatives with adjectives and adverbs .
Step 3 Practice
Have students read the facts about the elephant and panda in 1a, and then use the structure “multiple /numeral +comparative degree +than ...” to make sentences as much as possible .
Ask some students to say their own sentences and praise the students that write more correct sentences .
Step 4 Listening
Let students try to read the numbers in 1b and tell students how to spell the decimals .
Let’s listen . Please check the numbers in 1b while you are listening to the tape . I’ll play the tape the first time . Please just listen .
Play the tape again ,Please listen and check the numbers .
Check the answers together .
Step 5Listening and completing
Now we have learned something about elephant and adult panda . Now let’s see a picture about baby panda . according to the picture , I think you can guess the answers .
At first , who can read the four sentences in 1c to us.
Now I’ll play the tape again .please complete the sentences .
Then we will check the answers together .
Step 6 Group work
Let’s practice telling something about the pandas according to 1c
At first ,read the sentences in the box . Then say something about the pandas in group.please use the structure “multiple /numeral +comparative degree +than ...” . you can help each other.
Step7 Practice
Have students read the sentences of Self Check 3 . Tell them to circle the correct word or fill in the blanks with the correct form of the word given .
At first finish it by yourselves and I’ll ask four students to say answers .
Step7 Summary
Help students sum up the special usages of the comparatives with adjectives and adverbs . Ask them to make sentences to practice the structure .
