What is your favourite art form And why?
Peking opera has a history of more than 200 years. It was listed as a form of intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) in 2010.
Peking opera mixes different art forms, including singing, dancing, acrobatics(杂技) and martial arts(武术). All these art forms are put into one performance. Facial painting(脸谱) is one of the most important signs of Peking opera.
Peking opera is a kind of ancient Chinese art. But few of today's young people know much about it. Famous Peking opera artist Wang Peiyu wants more young people to fall in love with the art.
Wang hosts(主持) a weekly talk show called The Wang Peiyu Peking Opera Show. It started to show on iQiyi on March 27.
On the show, Wang explains Peking opera through different subjects, such as how to prepare for a show, or something interesting about the art. She explains how to put on clothing and make up. Artists often spend much money on their clothing. It's said that a set of clothing worn by Peking opera master Mei Lanfang once cost about 70,000 silver dollars. This would be 3.5 million yuan in today's money.
To make everything easy to understand, she uses simple language. She tries to use modern slang(现代俚语), such as “freestyle” and zihei, or zichao.
Wang's show has become popular. “It gives a simple starting point for all of us, whether you know Peking opera or not,” a fan wrote after watching the show.

Who invented it
Glass armonica.(玻璃琴)
What is the name of the musical instrument
Benjamin Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin did lots of interesting things in his life-published newspapers, studied electricity, started a revolution, etc. But here is about his favourite invention-the glass armonica!
Have you ever rubbed a wet finger around the rim of a glass If you do it just right, it makes a pure, loud tone.
On a visit to London, Franklin went to an unusual concert of music played on glasses. He loved the sound! And it gave him an idea for a new instrument.
Franklin completed his glass armonica in 1761. He had a glassmaker make a set of glass bowls of different sizes, with a hole in the middle of each. An iron rod ran through the holes. The rod was attached to a wheel, which was turned by a foot pedal. Pressing the foot pedal made the bowls spin, and touching the bowls with wet fingers produced the musical sounds.
The instrument was an instant hit in Europe. People loved it. Famous composers, such as Mozart and Beethoven, wrote music for it. Even the queen of France bought one. And Franklin spent many happy hours playing his armonica with family and friends. He once said that “of all my inventions, this has given me the greatest satisfaction”.
But musical fashions changed. Music was moving out of the relatively small halls of Mozart’s day into the large public concert halls of the 19th century, and without amplification it simply couldn't be heard. During this period, musical instruments, like piano, were all redesigned to increase their volume. But there really wasn't any way to make the armonica louder. So, by the 1820s, the glass armonica was nearly forgotten.
Amplification is of course no longer a problem, but even today there are only a dozen or so glass armonica performers in the world.

Paper cutting
What do you think paper cutting is used for
It is used for celebrations, festivals, home decorations.
The corridor (走廊) windows at Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School(杭州英特外国语学校)look a bit different than other schools. They are all decorated (装饰) with beautiful papercutting art. But they are not just for decoration. They are also to stop birds from flying into windows.
Chen Zitong, 14, a Junior 3 student at the school came up with the idea. In early January, she wrote a letter to the headmaster and suggested this. She often saw birds fly into the clean windows and get hurt. After some online research, she found this solution. “Some people decorated windows with stickers (贴纸) or posters. Then I thought of replacing (代替) them with our traditional papercutting art,” Chen said.
To Chen’s surprise, the headmaster took her advice. The school organized a papercutting art competition. Students’ works that got awards were pasted on the corridor windows.
In fact, there have been papercutting art classes at the school since 2011. “We have classes once a week for a month to teach papercutting,” said Fan Ming, an art teacher. The teaching building even has a display (展示) wall to show students’ works of art.
Through the class, Shi Jiawei, 14, fell in love with the art of papercutting. “It’s very fun. I can design my own patterns (图案) and present interesting things through it,” she said. She created many works like bears, elephants and magpies (喜鹊).
Papercutting also helps students become more patient. Wang Yiyou, 12, was once an active boy. But now, he can carefully design a delicate (精致的) papercutting work with scissors (剪刀) and gravers (刻刀). “I am so proud that I can make it look perfect,” he said.
