I've often heard the idea that “there are no new stories” in movies and literature. While the audience have expressed their frustrations on this point, I think this complaint has been primarily unfair to Hollywood's creations. Despite their borrowed story points and characters, these movies can be truly inspiring when done correctly.
I've worked at a movie theater for more than three years and have seen how the audience appreciate several of these movies. The Dark Knight Rises was inspired by a comedic book character; yet according to several sources, it got more than D|S354 million domestically (在国内方面) as of Aug. 5. I worked at the weekend, seeing many people attend and enjoy this movie.
Several other recent movies, however, couldn't boast The Dark Knight Rises success, and perhaps this is why the audience are becoming dissatisfied. Usually, sequels (续集) rarely live up to the thrill of the original — it's difficult to satisfy book lovers with movie adaptations. While 3D was once an impressive new invention, its uniqueness has gone. The audience no longer find 3D movies worth the higher ticket price or the uncomfortable glasses.
I started to consider the issue of new stories while watching The Amazing Spider Man for the second time last weekend. This movie has been closely compared to the original Spider Man comics. What truly impressed me about the film, however, is that though it brought in aspects of the story, it truly felt like its own movie.
Why are audiences so frustrated by repeated stories In researching the phrase“there are no new stories”,I found several variations but no clear indication of the primary origin. The phrase itself is an old thought used to explain our frustration with these repetitions.
In fact we don't want new stories, we want new ways of experiencing them and new ways of being reminded we are humans with various forms of emotions.
4.The author wanted to tell us that ________.
A.unexpected paths can make old stories successful
B.only new stories can bring new life to Hollywood
C.people are tired of seeing the unfashionable movies
D.reform must be done to the Hollywood movies
因此选A。
5.According to the first paragraph we can know ________.
A.the author shows sympathy for audiences
B.the author dislikes Hollywood's creations at all
C.the author likes any borrowed stories in Hollywood
D.Hollywood's creations can be good when done correctly
6.How does the author find The Amazing Spider Man
A.He has never seen a wonderful film like that.
B.It is worse than the original Spider Man comics.
C.It is much like the original Spider Man comics.
D.He thinks no one will see it a second time.
依据文章第四段的“though it brought in aspects of the story, it truly felt like its own movie”可知,《超凡蜘蛛侠》这部电影,很像原来的蜘蛛侠电影,因此选C。
7.What is the author's opinion about adapted movies
A.Try to create more and more new stories.
B.Adopt new methods to make films.
C.Ignore any complaint from the audiences.
D.Follow in one's own footsteps.
依据文章尾段的“we want new ways of experiencing them and new ways of being reminded we are humans with various forms of emotions”可知,作者认为好的电影不仅仅采纳新故事,而是用新的方法去演示出故事。因此选B。

Where Are We Going, Dad presents a new generation of men who, in a break from Chinese tradition, now play an active role in their children's lives.
Five star fathers and their children travel around China, riding camels through the western deserts, fishing off the east coast, and selling vegetables for their bus fare home in remote southwestern Yunnan Province. One dad doesn't know how to do his daughter's hair, but give him a couple of days — he'll figure it out. Another one must survive with his son for three days in the desert, where, because neither can cook, the two only eat instant noodles.
These story lines are part of Where Are We Going, Dad?which, since its first show in October, has become one of China's most popular television shows, covering more than 600 million viewers each week. And searches for Where Are We Going, Dad turn up over 40 million hits on Sina Weibo, China's Twitter.
“In traditional Chinese culture, the common conception of parenthood is that the father is strict and the mother is kind. But on the show, we see fathers who are much gentler on their kids and more concerned with their upbringing,” said Li Minyi, an associate professor of early childhood education at the leading Beijing Normal University.“An important question arises in this show for modern Chinese society — what is the role of fathers in today's China?”
“As they raise their children, parents are growing up at the same time,”said Wang Renping, a popular education expert, in an interview with the Qianjiang Evening News. “They cannot use parenting styles from 20 years ago to guide the development of children born 20 years later.”
The attraction of Where Are We Going, Dad lies in the chance to have a close look at the lives of popular Chinese stars and their children. Audience fancy watching the failed attempts of star dads making dinner, braiding hair (编头发), and disciplining children — tasks often left to mothers in a society still influenced by the opinion that“men rule outside and women rule inside”.

When the TV viewer turns on his set, what sort of programs does he have to choose from You might think there would be more programs devoted to entertainment than to anything else, but that's not the case. In most countries, fewer than 20% of broadcasting hours are devoted to entertainment. U.S. figures are high — 34.8%, and the unloving Canadians are even higher with 44%. Except Canada and Italy, all countries give more broadcasting time to education than to either information (news, documentaries and so on) or entertainment programs. Of course, few educational broadcasts take place during peak viewing times. In Japan though, more than 60% of broadcasting time is taken up with education of one kind of another — just another example of the businesslike Japanese philosophy. In the U.K., the figure is 56.4%. The Italians have fewer educational programs than anyone else. They don't go in for entertainment either. Only about ten percent of viewing time is devoted to dramas and serials, quiz shows, music, sports, etc. You will find more news information programs on Italian TV than anything else. That's understandable in a country experiencing social and political changes. Italians rely on TV to tell them what's going on — and events are happening almost too fast to follow. The percentage of time the U.S. devoted to news and documentary programs is much smaller. After education, most TV time is given to entertainment. Many of these programs are shown around the world.

After a particularly busy period at work, I decided to get away from it all by going on a hike in the mountains in southern France.
Before I left, I read an interesting story in a magazine. It read, “Once, while I was riding on a crowded bus, the man sitting next to me threw his cell phone out of the window when his phone rang. I was surprised. He looked at me, shrugged (耸耸肩) and looked away. I had no idea whether it was his or stolen or whether he even knew what a cell phone was or not, but he clearly wanted to be free of it, because it clearly troubled him.”
Billions of people across the world use cell phones. Though cell phones are a wonderful way for communication, they often do the exact opposite. Using cell phones can increase stress within families and friends.
So when I recently returned home, I got rid of my cell phone. Now I go outside without taking my phone with me. I've noticed things in my neighborhood I never noticed before, such as gardens. I've met new people, started conversations with neighbors I didn't speak to before and talked with some of my friends face to face instead of chatting over the phone.
Instead of keeping me off from the world, stopping using my cell phone has helped me get even closer to my family and friends.

Imagine what you could do with a machine that could make things disappear.
For inspiration, you could read some books. In the books of J.R.R. Tolkein, Bilbo Baggins finds a ring that can make him disappear. Of course, there's also poor Harry Potter, who used his invisibility cloak (隐形斗篷) to hide from danger.
Now that you've got some ideas, it's time for the hard part: building the cloak. To do that, you have to give up science fiction and turn to real science. An invisibility cloak has to cheat anything or anyone who might be watching. In order to understand how something can be seen, it's important to understand how we see.
Human beings can only see objects that reflect (反射) light waves. These waves enter the eye and are then processed by the brain. However, if an object doesn't reflect light, then the waves don't enter the eye, and the brain doesn't process. So building an invisibility cloak is building something that doesn't reflect light.
Cummer was part of a team of scientists from Duke University, including David Smith and David Schurig, who built the world's first version (版本) of an invisibility cloak. They had been inspired by the work of a British physicist, John Pendry. He in May said that an invisibility cloak was possible and Pendry was not the only one thinking about a disappearing act. At the same time, a Scottish physicist, UIf Leonhardt published a paper on building invisibility equipment.
“It wasn't easy,” says Cummer.“As often happens in science and research, it didn't work very well the first time. That first cloak didn't work like Harry Potter's — the scientists didn't actually see anything disappear. So the research is still under way.”
