What makes a person a scientist?Does he have ways or tools of learning that are different from those of others? The answer is “no”.It is not the tools a scientist uses but how he uses these tools
that makes him a scientist. You will probably agree that knowing how to use a power is important to a carpenter. You will probably agree, too, that knowing how to investigate (调查), how to gather information, is important to everyone. The scientist, however, goes one step further; he must be sure that he has a reasonable answer to his question and that his answer can be confirmed by other persons. He also works to fit the answers he gets to many questions into a large set of ideas about how the world works.
The scientist's knowledge must be exact. There is no room for half right or right just half the time. He must be as nearly right as the conditions permit. What works under one set of conditions at one time must work under the same conditions at other times. If the conditions are different, any changes the scientist observes in a demonstration must be explained by the changes in the conditions. This is one reason why investigations are important in science. Albert Einstein, who developed The Theory of Relativity, arrived at this theory through mathemetics. The accuracy of his mathematics was later tested through investigations. Einstein's ideas were shown to be correct. A scientist uses many tools for measurements. Then the measurements are used to make mathematical calculations that may test his investigations.
1.What makes a scientist according to the passage
A.The tools he uses.
B.The ways he learns.
C.The ways he uses his tools.
D.The power he uses.
2.What can we learn from the passage
A.The scientist's knowledge is always right under all conditions.
B.When the condition changes, the result of the observation may also change.
C.Conditions make no difference to scientists.
D.There's no point for ordinary people knowing how to investigate.
3.A reasonable scientific theory should be one that ________.
A.not only works under one set of conditions at one time, but also works under the same conditions at other times
B.leaves no room for improvement
C.does not allow any change even under different conditions
D.can be used for many purposes
4.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Scientists are different from ordinary people.
B.The theory of relativity.
C.Exactness is the core (核心) of science.
D.Exactness and ways of using tools are the keys to the making of a scientist.

As Nicole and Mike Zupan get closer to retirement, they worry about more than just covering their own living expenses for the next several decades.
__1__ He is autistic (患自闭症的) and may never be able to live on his own. Their idea of retirement is to live a quiet life close to their son. __2__ They want to create a special needs trust to help pay for treatment and other expenses he might face as an adult.
“Because of our son's needs, I guess I never really considered true retirement for us,” she says.
__3__ She is to attend college in a few years.
The Zupans' ideal plan is for Mike, 60, to retire first, in five to seven years, and for Nicole, 52, to continue working for several years beyond that before she joins him in retirement.
But before they can get there, they want to pay off the D|S18,000 in credit card debt, partly because their son's treatment is not covered by insurance. They have about D|S230,000 left on the mortgage (按揭) for their home in Fairfax County, Va., which they assess will take about 12 years to pay off. __4__
Matters are complicated by the fact that Nicole, who worked as a preschool teacher, is now unemployed while she recovers from foot operation. __5__ Mike's D|S120,000 income, which he earns as a government clerk, is enough to cover their basic living expenses. But Nicole wants to get back to work so the family could afford more treatment for Josef and pay down their debt faster. They also would be able to save more for their long term goals, including retirement, their daughter's college tuition and their son's future living expenses.
A.Besides they have a D|S14,000 loan they used on home improvements.
B.It's unlikely that Josef will go to college.
C.They're also trying to save for their 14 year old daughter, Elshaday.
D.They want to set aside enough money for their 15 year old son, Josef.
E.It could be a few weeks before she can return to the workforce.
F.Can their retirement savings cover them
G.He may need to move into a group home when he gets older.

It's great pleasure for me to make a speech here. With a new term come, we are happy to be back at school and hope to see our school taken on a new look. To keep our
school beautiful, we should avoid such behavior as spitting, littering, and scribbling in public places. Occasionally, some of us may talk loudly, quarreling with others or even do dangerous things, all of them can harm the harmonious atmosphere of our school.
Which we know, civilized behavior is great importance. It not only shows our good qualities but also make us live and study happily at school, so we should obey the school rules and behave good. Only by doing so we live a more comfortable life on campus.PAGE
