It was loudly applauded by an audience of over 6,000, including diplomats and overseas students.“We try to advocate the theme of our time while providing more practices to our students and teachers,” said Wang Xianjun, chairman of the board of Dalian Art College, which organized the performance.
The play showed people's desire for world peace by reawakening the memories of historical events.
It presented the trips of imperial envoy Zhang Qian to the Western regions that opened up the world famous Silk Road, the voyage of Zheng He, who led trade expeditions to west Asia and east Africa and memories of World War Ⅱ.
The performance combined symphony, Chinese folk music, chorus and recitation, as well as colorful dances featuring Chinese drum and long sleeves, Indian dance, Spanish flamenco dance and Russia folk dance.
“I'm sure that our students and teachers will cherish this performance at the Great Hall. Definitely, they are the biggest beneficiaries,” Wang said.
The Administrative Committee of Dalian Jinpu New District and the college sponsored the performance with support from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China Friendship Art Exchange Association and the Administrative Committee of Dalian Jinpu New District.

Will Thomas was only 12 when thirty American servicemen — all of them special operations troops — were killed in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. Seventeen were Navy SEALs (海豹突击队).
When Will, who is from McLean, Virginia, heard about the terrible event, he decided to honor special operations troops and help their families. He thought the best way would be by doing something he loved — shooting hoops (投篮). Will decided to ask people to donate money for each basket he sank.
“It would help me improve as a basketball player, and it would help improve the lives of the families of the SEALs who passed away,” Will told reporters.
Will set a goal to sink 17,000 baskets over Labor Day weekend in 2011. Then he started collecting donations. The first came from Will's dad, who promised to donate a penny for each basket Will made. As word spread, donations poured in from family, friends, and strangers.
When the holiday weekend arrived, Will began shooting baskets at 3 p.m. that Friday. Friends, neighbors, and even local reporters came to watch him. By Monday evening, after shooting hoops for 50 hours (even in the rain), Will finally decided to stop. He's made 20,317 baskets and raised$50,000.
But Will wasn't finished yet. He decided to create more basketball challenges to raise even more money. That's how his basketball program, Operation Hawkeye, was born.
Will named his program in honor of Hawkeye, the faithful pet dog of one of the SEALs who was killed. Will completed his second challenge on Labor Day weekend of 2012. He sank 3,317 three point baskets in 34 hours of shooting, raising another $30,000.
During Will's third challenge in February, he sank 2,017 three point baskets in 15 hours of shooting. That event raised more than $19,000!
Will is certainly not alone in his project. Today, basketball teams from every level of the sport — including nearly every NBA team — support Operation Hawkeye. So do many other organizations and companies, such as Nike. With their help, Will hopes to move closer to his goal of attracting 31,000 supporters and raising a total of $310,000.He plans to complete his fourth Operation Hawkeye challenge later this summer during Labor Day weekend, with even more to follow.

Most of us will have days or weeks when we can't make as many things as we'd like. We have jobs, families and busy lives, which means occasionally you'll be out of time to sit down and make art.
Here are some simple tips that can help your creative work.
__1__
If you want to think more about your artwork, read about it just before you fall asleep. Studies show that your brain remembers more and thinks subconsciously (下意识地) about the information you process just before going into REM (rapid eyes movement) sleep. __2__. You might even dream about what you were thinking about or were doing just before sleep. If you're reading a book on creativity you really want to digest, this is a great trick to help your own creative process.
Use commute (通勤) time
__3__. Read, listen, think, make lists, or mentally check off your progress. Using commute time means that when you do sit down to create work, you're often done the heavy thinking and are ready to dive into the practical work. It is an obvious one, but it's been tried and tested.
Don't overlook thinking time
When you're not making artworks, make time to simply think. It seems like many artworks are made after months or even years of living inside your own head. __4__, using this time to think hard about your artwork can pay off greatly. You can often surprise yourself with how much progress you can make if you clock the thinking hours. Realizing that this was a “thing” was one of the most helpful lessons I learned as an artist. Thinking time is time well spent.
__5__.
A.Read before you fall asleep
B.You might dream about what you read
C.Make conversations about your artwork
D.Try some of these ideas out and see what works for you
E.Whether you're at work, walking pets, or doing the dishes
F.Use the time you're driving or on the train to and from work
G.Some tricks you could try are making lists of future or potential artworks

5.解析:选D 根据空处所在的位置可知,该处独立成段,位于文章末尾。据此可以判断,空处总结全文,点明主题,故选D项。

The US soldier Jessica Lynch, who was rescued by the US Special Forces after being captured in Iraq, is to marry. Private (二等兵) Lynch, 20, will marry Army Sergeant (陆军军士) Ruben Contreras next June, her mother said.
The couple met two years ago in a fast food restaurant in Texas, where both of them were stationed.
Private Lynch was captured along with six other US soldiers when Iraqi troops attacked her convoy near the city of Nasiriya in March.
The exact date and location of the wedding are being kept a secret.
Contreras' mother, Lisa Latorre, told a newspaper in her hometown, that she did not want the event to become a media focus.
“I want this to be a real wedding for them, not just a bunch of media storming in,” Ms Latorre said. “I'm looking forward to them finally being able to be together and happy. They shall get that chance. They've been through so much.”
However, Ms Latorre did tell one detail: Private Lynch was already looking for a wedding dress.
Jessica Lynch's dramatic rescue in Iraq — after a local lawyer reportedly informed the US forces as to her whereabouts — became one of the most celebrated and controversial events of the war.
Praised as a heroine by many, others blamed her rescue as a staged event used by Pentagon (五角大楼) officials as a propaganda (宣传) exercise.
Private Lynch, who is still recovering from wounds received during the war and who reportedly has no memory of the incident, recently signed a $1,000,000 book deal to publish an account of her capture.

My daughter went to see The Wild One recently and she commented that Marlon Brando was wearing jeans so long ago. Of course he helped set the trend, so that got me thinking about the link between films and trends in fashion. Fashion and films have gone hand in hand for long. The Wild One is a good example: it appeared in 1954, starring Brando. Dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket, leather cap and jeans, he created a look which is still considered “cool” today. Everyone from Madonna to a middle aged man is seen wearing the classic leather motorcycle jacket.
Another strong influence on fashion trends was Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn. She made famous the simple black dress that looks perfect at either a cocktail party or just standing around an expensive department store like Tiffany's with a pastry and coffee in your hand, as Audrey Hepburn does in the film. She looks so elegant, wearing simple but beautiful dresses, big dark glasses and a string of pearls around her neck. Audrey Hepburn still influences women's fashion with her “Tiffany's look”.
In more modern times, the film star Uma Thurman created a major fashion trend when she appeared in the film Pulp Fiction, made in 1994. Her style was very simple. Her black trousers, crisp white shirt and hairstyle were copied by women in the world.
Influencing fashion trends can often be about timing. The movie Memoirs of a Geisha came just in time to start a trend in Japanese fashion. It starred the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who wore beautiful silk kimonos (和服), and it won an Oscar for Costume Design. Many travel companies picked up on the trend and ran “geisha trips” to Japan. The film has also led to a regained interest in kimonos. It is now quite common to see young Japanese women wearing kimonos not just on traditional occasions, but at various social events. The fashion is also beginning to spread to Western countries.
语篇解读:本文主要讨论了电影和时尚之间的关系。

In the summer of 1862, a young man belonging to a Vermont regiment was found sleeping at his post. He was tried and sentenced to be shot. The day was fixed for the execution (处决), and the young soldier calmly prepared to meet his fate.
Friends who knew of the case brought the matter to Mr Lincoln's attention. It seemed that the boy had been on duty one night, and on the following night he had taken the place of a comrade who was too ill to stand guard. The third night he had been again called out, and, being exhausted, he fell asleep.
As soon as Mr Lincoln understood the case, he signed a pardon (赦免令), and sent it to the camp. The morning before the execution arrived, Mr Lincoln had not heard whether the pardon had reached the officers in charge of the matter. He began to feel uneasy. He ordered a telegram to be sent to the camp, but received no answer.
As last, feeling that he must know that the boy was safe, he ordered a carriage and rode rapidly ten miles over a dusty road and beneath a hot sun. When he reached the camp, he found that the pardon had been received and the execution had been called off.
The soldier was set free, and his heart was filled with lasting gratitude. When the campaign opened in the spring, the young man was with his regiment near Yorktown, Virginia. They were ordered to attack a fort, and he fell at the first volley (齐射) of the enemy.
His comrades caught him up and carried him bleeding and dying from the field.“Bear witness,” he said, “that I have proved myself a brave soldier, and I am not afraid to die.” Then, making a last effort, with his dying breath he prayed for Abraham Lincoln.

A team of Oscar winning producers is working on a film about the life and death of Vincent Van Gogh.
Entitled Loving Vincent it's a hand painted animation based on hundreds of paintings and letters by the artist. It's not only about the art that Van Gogh created, but also about him as a person.
As a painter, the film's director Dorota Kobiela says she was inspired by the artist's unique style and his own words — we can only speak through our paintings.
“We have over fifty painters on this film and each needs to be able to paint to an incredibly high level,” says the film's producer, Hugh Welchman.
They have to hand paint about 57,000 paintings, all of which are oil on canvas(帆布)to get the original Van Gogh's look. The animator uses material and paint based on a projected (投射的) picture, covering the previous image with another image.
“The image is displayed on the canvas by a projector behind me. I can see the main lines and the movement required. I paint the contours (轮廓) to create the movement and then I can sense, from what I see in the live preview, whether the animation will work. When the painting is ready, a photograph is taken and the process starts over again. After twelve frames we have one second of movie material. Matching each image to the previous one requires extremely precise work. Patience is a must,” says Anna Kluza, one of the artists on the project.
Described as an investigation into the life and controversial death of one of the world's most beloved painters, as told through his paintings, the characters that exist in them and dramatic reconstructions of the events leading up to his death, Loving Vincent is expected to be his screens in two years' time.
