(2022·天津南开·二模)The first time I lost my best friend, I thought it was the end of the world. I don’t mean that he died, he just went away, but I still measure all pain by how hurt I was when Danny left.
I was blessed with a happy childhood, one that most people would want to have. We lived in a small house in a tiny village in Scotland and we were a very close family. Our neighbours next door had a son named Danny, and we grew up together.
We spent long summer evenings in the pine forests, digging up worms for fishing, and collecting feathers left by the birds in the cages where they had been kept for the hunters. It was here that I discovered that I was allergic(过敏的) to the tiny flies which bit me and made my face swell. There were a few walnut trees above the village and we would chase the animals away and wait for them to ripen. Of course, it was too far north for a proper harvest. On windy days we’d slide down the stony slopes(斜坡) to the bay and feel the waves of the sea in our faces.
Danny was a good carpenter(木匠) too, and we made brooms out of branches, which we tried to sell in the village shop. We built a tree house, where we smoked our first cigar, and I was sick! Once I slipped on some damp leaves, fell out, cut my arms and the heel of my foot, so he washed my wounds in the stream. My mother simply blamed me for tearing my underwear.
We were on good terms with everyone in the village, and we even gave a salute(敬礼) to the local policeman as he passed on his bicycle. But in our imagination, he was an enemy soldier, and we were two spies looking for secrets.
It was the finest friendship anyone could have, and life seemed perfect.
And then at the age of 14, his parents moved to London, over 400 kilometres away. The pain was real, and I couldn’t forgive Danny for leaving me. I felt he had abandoned me.
It was the worst loss I have ever experienced.
I’m now back in touch with Danny, and it’s an honor to call him my friend. We’re both much more mature now, and we’re still very alike.
But while I miss the happy times we spent together many years ago, I’m ashamed of my feelings, and I don’t want to rewind the recording of my life and remember my loss and my pain.

(2022·天津河西·二模)We are all born social and company to live happy and fruitful life. Healthy and supportive mutual relationships help reduce stress and promote the, physical, mental and emotional well-being by building skills like time management, assertiveness( 坚定自信), sociability and empathy.
Making friends has made me feel secure. However, I have to be cautious to pick up friends sharing similar tastes and values. In addition, having added to one’s circle of friends helps one feel supported.
It is true that finding time to cultivate relationships is all about effective time management. My busy uncle finds time to catch up with family and friends during his tea and lunch breaks. Similarly my friend Somya uses her time on her way back home from work in her chauffeur-driven car to catch up with people. The modern inventions of SMS and e-mail help send wishes for birthdays and anniversaries to show your love and care.
Assertiveness is as much applicable to relationships. My friend Mohana emphasizes that neither being a passive observer nor being aggressive helps relationships. It is assertiveness in our relationships that opens the lines of effective communication. It emphasizes helping friends in need and also strengthens mutually supportive relationships.
It is also true that assertiveness by intuition promotes discretion(自行决定权) of friends and helps Lalitha distinguish positive people from drains of energy. She can easily figure this out by the flow of the conversation, the way each feels understood, accepted and supported, and by how I feel, happy, bored or energized in the relationship. It also helps to know whether all benefit from each other’s positive aspects.
Handling stress in life is all about cultivating mutually supportive relationships and working on them. Manisha always says she feels great when sharing her feelings after a hard day with people who share similar ideas. Actually we all need someone who would not just hear us, but listen to us, and we need to cultivate the art of listening and understanding people.

(2021·广东·信宜砺儒中学模拟预测)One day I was driving a group of friends to a family seminar (研讨会) in Holmes County, Ohio. The village of Berlin was about an hour from our home. The seminar is usually half a day except on Saturday. In my hurry, I left the house without cash and without food. I comforted myself with the thought that I could go without them and it would allow me to concentrate more on the rich teaching that I would receive. It was a beautiful day and the drive was pleasant through countryside. I enjoyed conversation with my friends about the things of the Lord as we drove.
When we arrived I found my place and settled in to enjoy the seminar. The morning passed swiftly and I noticed no hunger. When the noon hour came I went to the van (面包车) to spend some time alone with the Lord. On the church grounds and in the shade of the tree people began to open large picnic baskets. I knew it would be impossible to think about this feast going on in front of me.
I started the van and drove into the village of Berlin. I found the Christian bookstore and spent some time browsing among the books. One of my favorite places on earth is a good bookstore. Standing there I sensed someone behind me. I turned and was shocked to see Lois standing there. She smiled “I couldn’t stand the thought of you going hungry so I brought you some money.” My heart welled up with love for her in that moment. We ate lunch and kissed goodbye. I went back to the seminar and she made the hour-long trip back home.

(2022·四川巴中·一模)I was never very neat (整洁的), while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled(贴标签)everything. I always looked for everything. Over time,Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, "Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!" Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬)under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through phone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.

She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, "Thanks."

Far in a corner, he spotted Mrs Lim, the librarian, who was too busy shelving some books to pay any attention to him. The library was near to the canteen. Jonah could hear children laughing and chatting. He wished he was outside playing with some friends but he did not let this bother him.
Suddenly, Jonah heard a sound in the corner. He looked around and saw a pair of eyes looking at him from behind, the bookshelves. Jonah turned back, eyes as wide as saucers (茶碟). “Oh dear!” he whispered. He peeked (窥视) over his shoulder again and saw a smaller boy walking towards him.

(2022·河南·鹤壁高中模拟预测)This afternoon, a friend asked if she could come by to spend some time with me in stillness.
Two days back, she got the news that her grandmother passed away on the other side of the globe. They were very close, and due to some duties in the coming days, she couldn't leave right away to be by her side.
I am a priest. Although we are opposite sex and I actually don't know her well, there was a resonance in values that connected us. She had attended a few gatherings that some friends and I hosted, and her attendance had always added a gentle and friendly atmosphere to the circle, and in the talks she'd find herself in. I was touched by the way she asked for help — and her intention to spend time in silence and in a sacred space to honor and connect with her grandmother.
I was very busy that day, and I was already behind on a few deadlines. I had hoped to work late on to catch up. But it was so clear to stop and make time for this. This friend has such a modest personality, and I could tell it had been an uncertain couple of days since she received the news. “Of course, come by please,” I told my friend.
When she arrived a couple of hours later, I handed her a cup of tea. It was 5:30 pm. She had wanted to sit in silence to honor her grandmother first, but because she had missed eating lunch, she gently brought a container of leftovers to share an early dinner instead.
I listened to her memories and stories. Her grandmother was the joyous community elder and had experienced the peaks and valleys in life with a lightness of heart.
