阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched into it on the Internet. The Summer Palace is composed mostly of a lake, but it's surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off.
The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on top of a large hill overlooking the lake and that is worth the climb. It was built as a place to worship (敬拜) Buddha. And in the Summer Palace, unlike most of the other places, photography wasn't allowed in most of the buildings. Most of the statues of Buddha and the other artifacts (手工艺品) were off limits to photos.
Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched the opera and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in all of Imperial China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage.
I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric or paddle boat if you want. But since it was just me, I went on one of the biggest boats with other people.
I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn't see all of it because it was getting dark. I am looking forward to visiting it again.
1.Before setting off to the Summer Palace, the author ________.
A.asked others about it

A.It sits on top of a hill.
B.It is the largest stage all over China.
C.Operas are performed there at times.
D.It was for the royalty to watch performances.
4.Why did the author choose to take a ride in a big boat instead of other boats
A.Because the author was persuaded to do that.

My cousin Tom used to like playing video games very much. He could spend the whole weekend playing video games without going out. At last, his parents became concerned. They wanted to change the situation. So they arranged some after school programs for him. At first, Tom didn't like them. But as time went by, he fell in love with after school programs. Now he no longer plays video games and spends most of his time attending after school programs, through which he has gained many important skills. After school programs can be very helpful. Here are some reasons:
Children need friends. But many of today's children find it hard to make new friends because they lack opportunities. After school programs are good for children to establish new friendships. Two of my close friends and I first met in a singing program. If I hadn't attended that program, I might not have made friends with them.
Children need after school programs because the programs often supplement (补充) the education children receive in school. This is particularly true for tutoring programs. The tutors give children new ways of learning their material, and the children benefit from the encouragement tutors provide.
An important part of a child's development is having healthy social skills, and after school programs help develop this. For example, when a program participant takes painting lessons with fellow participants, he builds new friendships through this new skill and learns values of teamwork, honesty, selflessness and how to encourage others.
In after school sports clubs, children get necessary exercise that will benefit their health in the future. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children should spend at least one hour a day engaging in physical activities.
After school programs may also help children become more well rounded through taking part in various cultural activities. For example, children may go to a book signing at a public library, a free jazz concert in the park, or an exhibit at the museum.
If both parents work, after school programs provide a safe place for children to attend until their parents return from work.
5.According to Paragraph 3, through going to after school activities, children can ________.
A.meet more people
B.be better educated
C.learn to be good examples
D.learn to encourage others
6.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.A child's development.
B.Building new friendships.
C.Having healthy social skills.
D.Learning values of teamwork.
7.Which of the following benefits is NOT mentioned in the text
A.Allowing children to be safer.
B.Helping children get the necessary exercise.
C.Helping children love going to school more.
D.Helping children become more well rounded.
8.What is the text mainly about
A.What children should do after school.
B.Why children shouldn't play video games.
C.Where children can benefit from after school programs.
D.Why after school programs are important for children.

Scientists may have evidence that our personality plays into our eating habits.People who are open and extroverted (外向的) eat more fruits and vegetables than others, according to new research.
The new report, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, analyzed the eating habits of more than 1,000 young adults ages 17 to 25.Researchers gave participants a test to measure for the “Big Five” personalities: openness to experience, conscientiousness (尽责性), extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (神经质).Then they asked some participants to keep a food diary for 21 days and others for 13 days, in hopes of encouraging more people to complete the task.
Participants who scored higher than average for openness ate about 4.5 more servings of combined fruits and vegetables per week than those less open ones. They also consumed (消耗) less unhealthy food, such as potato chips or fries.Extroversion also had a positive effect on fruits and vegetable consumption, though not as strongly as openness did, while conscientiousness was a weak predictor of produce consumption.
Of course, the study only found an association between the characteristic and eating habits, rather than a direct causation. It's likely that people who are open to new experiences take those same attitudes toward food, study author Tamlin Conner, a professor at the University of Otago, told The Huffington Post. Their personality may make them more eager to try new fruits and vegetables. But it's also possible that eating healthy foods can cause anyone to feel more like an extrovert: Another of Conner's studies found that in the short term, eating more fruits and vegetables resulted in more feelings of motivation, which she says are key characteristics of extroversion.
So, you want to eat better Start eating like an open, extroverted person.“Try to take an attitude of openness, especially toward unusual healthy foods,” Conner said.“Go to the store, and pick something new.Practice behaving like an open person.”
12.What does the new research focus on
A.Food and health.
B.Personality and health.
C.Eating habits and health.
D.Eating habits and personality.
13.What do we know about the experiment
A.It asked participants to share their food diaries.
B.It was carried out among old people.
C.It involved five personalities.
D.It lasted for a month.

A.Openness to experience.
B.Extroversion.
C.Conscientiousness.
D.Agreeableness.
15.What does Conner suggest

B.Making friends with open people.
C.Going on a balanced diet.
