When your dream is to become a footballer, nothing should get in your way—even if you have no feet.
Gabriel Muniz, an 11-year-old Brazil kid, was born without feet. Although his family thought he would have serious difficulties living a normal life, he started walking before he was one year old. His mother would go after him, expecting him to keep falling, but he never fell. It took him a while to make the jump from walking to playing football, but he did make it. Dawn Loggins is on her way to Harvard, one of the eight world-famous universities in the eastern US. Nobody encouraged her to study or paid for her special classes. This girl created her own future.
The teen was abandoned by her family last summer, when her parents and two sisters moved to Tennessee. She found herself homeless and had to spend the night on friend's sofas.
The school bus driver learned about Dawn's situation and invited Dawn to move in with her family. Soon, Dawn had a job at Burns High School. She worked from 6 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. before the first school bell rang. she swept floors and picked up trash again in the afternoons, before diving (跳水)into her studies in the evenings.
Dawn's hard work paid off. she finished school with a 3.9 GPA and scored 2,110 on the SAT. "There were times when I felt like it would be easiest if I gave up," the 18-year-old said."But it was never in me to give up, because I realized that I was never going to be successful unless I got an education."

Chinese writer Mo Yan is famous all over the world, but do you know Anna Gustafson Chen, his Swedish translator
Chen was born in 1965 in Sweden. She started learning Chinese at a very young age. Now she is quite good at Chinese. She has been translating Chinese books into Swedish for more than 20 years. By the year of 2012, she had translated 20 Chinese novels. She has finished translating Mo Yan’s Red Sorghum, The Garlic Ballads and Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out. She has also translated books from other famous Chinese writers, for example, Yu Hua’s To Live and Su Tong’s Wives and Concubines. Chen has won the Swedish Academy Translation Award for her works.
Chen first read Mo Yan’s novel Red Sorghum in the early 1990s. “I read Ge Haowen’s English translation in a bookstore. I found it interesting so later bought the Chinese version and tried to translate it. It took me a long time, because it was not my professional job. I had to translate it only in my free time,” Chen says.
Though Mo Yan wrote the first draft (初稿) of Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out in only 43 days, Chen spent six years translating it.
Chen says her work has opened up a window to the world. She says, “Learning Chinese has let me love more and more about China and Chinese culture. ”
