My father, who was always drunk and angry, beat me more and more every day. He always locked the door when he went away and kept the key in this pocket. One day I found an old saw (锯子) that he hid in the roof. When I was alone in the house. I started to make a hole on the floor under the big table.
The next day my father said, "Huck, go to the river and catch some fish for breakfast. Quickly! And don't try anything. Remember, I'm watching you!"
While I was fishing by the river, I saw an empty boat nearby.
"A boat!" I thought happily, “This is my chance to escape. I'll hide the boat near some trees and use it tonight!"
When my father went to town that afternoon, I got my saw and started to work on the hole. It was late afternoon when I finished making the hole.
"I did a good job," I thought, looking at the hole. “Now I'll get my father's gun.”
I looked outside the window and there was nobody there. I quickly escaped through the hole. Then I ran into the woods to hunt a wild pig. Luckily, I found one. I shot it and took it back to the house and let the pig's blood fall on the wooden floor of the house. Then I pulled some of my hair out and put it on my father's axe(斧子) with some of the pig's blood. I took the pig's body outside and put it in a big bag with some rocks, and threw it into the river.
"This way people will think ▲ !" I thought. "They'll come and look for my body in the river." This idea made me smile.
I waited until it was dark and got into the boat and went to Jackson's Island. I knew about Jackson's Island because Tom, Ben, Joe and I had a lot of fun adventures there.

When you choke (噎住) at home, make a sudden hit against the back of the chair. If you can’t breathe after six tries, call 120. Leave the telephone open until help arrives.
If you get hurt, use your hand or a scarf, or any dry cloth you can find, and push down on the wound(伤口) until the blood stops running. Don’t put the cloth around your leg tightly, or you may lose your foot.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they were sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be: your classmate, neighbor, teacher, long-lost friend or even a real stranger. Sometimes things happen to you. At the time they may seem terrible, painful (痛苦的) and unfair. It was the last day of the final exam. On the steps of one building, a group of engineering students were talking about their exam, which would begin in a few minutes. There was confidence on their faces. This was their last exam—then on to graduation(毕业)and jobs. After four years of college, they felt ready to see the world.

The questions you could not answer are about things you will work with every day.” Then, smiling, he added, “You will all pass this course, but remember—even though you are now college graduates, your education has just started.”

The Silk Road is the name of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa and Asia. People reached these different places along these roads. It spread from Rome to China, which is from the West to the Far East.
Traders travelling along the Silk Road carried silk, of course. They also carried and traded spices(香料),cloth, valuable stones and gold.
There is a famous old story along the old road. It is said that Roman soldiers(士兵)travelled through central Asia. They started to live somewhere near the ancient Chinese village of Liqian. Some of these Romans married local Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.

In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts(主人)and the worst guests in the world. They’re not really bad guests, but because the guest-host relationship in China is much different than in some western countries, it appears they are not nice guests. And western host sometimes look rude(粗鲁的)in the eyes of Chinese guests.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese person’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to the host’s way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind elderly Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that. In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At the very least, you could ask. “Is it OK if I smoke ” But, don’t be surprised if they say “No, you can’t smoke.” In our culture, if you smoke in their home, you are a bad guest, but if they do not allow you to smoke in their house, they are not a rude host.
Guests in China also have special habits. Some western people may not adapt to these habits very soon. Thankfully my wife is Chinese, so whenever we visit a Chinese family she tells me to buy them a gift. However, giving a gift to a host is not always necessary in my country. So, if you invite international guests to your house, don’t be too surprised if they don’t bring you a gift.
In China, you probably won’t need to change the guest-host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. If western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating you is not what you have expected.
44.Many foreigners think that Chinese hosts are the ________ in the world
A.best B.worst C.most natural D.most different
45.When a western guest visits a Chinese family, he often ________.
A.buys some fruit B.feels like a god
C.wants some gifts D.takes a cup of tea
46.If the writer’s guests want to smoke in his house, what will he probably say
A.It’s OK if you smoke here. B.Let’s smoke together.
C.Sorry, you can’t smoke here. D.Smoking is a bad habit.
47.What is the meaning of the underlined phrase “adapt to” in the passage
A.think back to B.get used to C.look forward to D.keep close to
48.What is the main idea of this passage
A.Foreigners should learn from Chinese.
B.Hosts must do things in the guests’ way.
C.Western hosts are always nice to guests.
D.People should understand cultural differences.

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper. I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she’d said again “it’s for Lilly”.
I never saw her get angry, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me she showed it in action. But as a young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter.
They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was too emotional (易动感情的). But she lived “on the surface”.
As years passed I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive (原谅) me.
I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came.
My hope turned to disappointment then little interest and, finally, peace — it seemed that nothing happened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.
Now the present of her desk told, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found a letter inside — the letter I sent to her, folded (折) and refolded many times.
Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

A.often had heart-to-heart talks with her daughter
B.didn’t forgive her daughter at all in her life
C.cared much about her daughter in words

Today we can do everything with apps: pay bills, order food and shop for anything. Mobile technology means we can hold the world in our hands. However, when it comes to technology and health care, opportunities and challenges come together.
Let’s start with the ways to get health care. Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis (诊断) and instructions without leaving home.
In addition, there are many patient websites. These allow for different kinds of interactions about our health needs without involving the medical team. Setting a date with doctors and reading lab results are readily achieved by technology.
A whole new age of medical care seems likely (可能的) to come in the future. But every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care
Firstly, we should think about the health care experience as a whole. A usual visit to a doctor begins with a receptionist (接待员) , who can see and tell how a patient is doing, This may influence the treatment effect. It’s unlikely that a patient website will have such intuition.
Next, sharing the details of one's life requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where some of life's best and worst moments involve doctors. The human touch should not be undervalued and is unlikely to be there over the smartphone.
Lastly, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a flagged result with no explanation on the website, there's room for all kinds of stories to form in their minds—and also great worry.
So how does medicine adapt (适应) to the new technology age Very talented companies are working on it .There is medical equipment(设备) that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine . It seems likely that some companies will find a way to explain test results.
But what it will not achieve is the warmth of human interaction and touch. Patients often need someone to listen to —and care about—their journey story, which will never be realized through a human-less technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it totally will most certainly have unexpected effects. Let's not allow our humanity to be one of them.
54.According to the passage, how does technology help health care
A.It encourages doctors to voice their needs on the websites
B.It offers the patient a convenient way to get a diagnosis
C.It improves relations between doctors and patients.
D.It provides an opportunity to build a medical team
55.The word “intuition” in Paragraph 5 probably means______.
A.an ability to understand B.an interesting experience
C.a chance to win D.a fair decision
56.What do you know about techno-health care from the passage
A.Patient websites require trust from doctors.
B.Talented companies can give medical advice.
C.Flagged results may cause worry for patients.
D.Medical equipment collects patients’ stories.
57.The writer probably agrees that_____.
A.technology can deal with unexpected effects.
B.telemedicine can take the place of usual health care.
C.it is difficult for patients to adapt to the new technology age.
D.techno-health care should take humanity into consideration.

How to clean the keyboard
Turn off your laptop before you do any cleaning. Even though you won’t be putting water directly onto your laptop, you should turn off the power to make sure nothing gets damaged if a little moisture does get inside.
Turn the laptop upside down and gently tap or shake it. This will remove big pieces of dirt, crumps (碎屑) or other debris (碎片) that’s hiding in your keyboard.Tip: It may help to spread a towel under the laptop before you shake it, to make cleanup easier.
Spay between the keys with compressed air to remove dust. The air of the force will blow the dust that’s trapped between and under the keys.
Remove dirt with a cotton ball and alcohol (酒精). Alcohol evaporates (蒸发)quickly, making it a safe alternative to using water on your laptop. Alcohol is especially good at removing the dirt left by your fingers. In addition, alcohol is good at removing germs (细菌).
58.To remove big pieces of dust in our keyboard, we can ________.A.put the keyboard under the tap and wash it

The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.
There are plenty of "energy drinks" on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited( 限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems.
