三、阅读理解。(15分)
Last Monday, a school bus driver from Cleveland made a quick stop to use the bathroom at a gas station on his way to school, but the bus didn't stop with him. Just after the driver left, the bus began to roll down the hill with 27 young students still on it. It rolled straight towards the coming cars.
Luckily, an 11-year-old passenger, David Murphy, ran to the driver's seat. He caught the steering wheel and drove the bus to safety. He couldn't stop the bus from going down the hill, but, instead of driving the bus towards the coming cars, he drove it towards a small bridge. The bus stopped as soon as it hit the bridge.
When David's mother knew what her son had done, she said, "It was amazing. I was surprised. When I saw the bus, it looked as if it was parked(停放). I couldn't believe that he had that strength to drive the bus."
David kept pretty quiet about it, but he was the only one among the students. "David is the most modest hero I've ever met, but if it weren't for what he had done, that bus would have gone right down into the river," said Brian Seltz, the family's close friend."He saved all those children's lives."

What should you do if there's an earthquake at school How can you protect yourself when you are caught in a stampede(蜂拥) This Monday provides you with a good chance to learn about safety.
This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students(NDESEMSS,全国中小学生安全教育日).The theme of the day in 2013 was to give students more knowledge about safety and make sure their lives safe.
A survey done by the China Youth and Children Research Centre showed that school accidents kill more elementary and middle school students than anything else. The main accidents come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries(伤害).
What can students do to keep themselves safe Staying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents. But different accidents have different self-protection advice.
A stampede is possible anywhere. The larger a human crowd gets, the more likely stampedes become. When students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands.
Lean to one side, curl up your body and bend your legs.
Earthquakes are common natural disasters. When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold onto the legs of it. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines.
When there's a fire, follow the teachers' instructions, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of wet cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you won't breathe in smoke.

Maybe you know floods, droughts, earthquakes, sandstorms and so on. But do you know much about typhoons
Typhoons are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean(太平洋) and the South China Sea. 1
How does a typhoon happen When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates into the air. 2 . When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into the sky. Then, cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. 3 The wind goes in circles(圈), and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the wind moves. And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins.
A typhoon has two parts. One is called the "eye". In the eye, the wind does not move so fast.
4 This is where the strongest winds and hardest rains are.
Typhoons are very dangerous. In 2004, Typhoon Yunna killed 164 people in Zhejiang, and 24 people were missing. In May 2006, Typhoon Pearl hit Guangdong and Fujian, and thousands of houses were washed and blown(刮) away.
What to do when a typhoon hits:
●Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them.
●Try to bring all of your things inside. 5
●Listen to the radio or TV for important information
●if you're told to go to a safer place, do so right away.
A. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes!
B. Most typhoons happen in July, August and September.
C. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind.
D. This makes the air colder.
E. The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye.
F. This makes the air hotter

What is a hurricane(凡风)
You may already know that hurricanes are storms that can cause the devastating(毁灭性的) wind and rain. They happen during the hurricane season, which is from June lst until November 30th in the Atlantic Ocean and from May 15th until November 30th in the Pacific Ocean.
Categories(类别)of hurricanes
There are five categories of hurricanes, which are based on wind speeds. The categories help people know how much damage a hurricane may cause because the greater the windspeeds, the more dangerous the storm will be. For example, a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 155 miles per hour, which are strong enough to destroy the buildings along the shorelines completely.
Hurricane dangers
When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a devastating flood. The centre of a hurricane is called the "eye". While most of a hurricane has dangerous and strong winds, the eye is actually a calm area in the storm. When the eye of a hurricane passes over land, people might think that it's over, but before long the wind and rain increase again as the second part of the hurricane moves through.
Hurricane safety tips
There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change its direction, so if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane. be sure to remember the following safety tips.
●Be sure you have a radio, batteries, fresh drinking water and enough food.
●Tell neighbours, friends and family members your emergency plans. Tell them where you'll go if you need to leave your home.
●If you live near the ocean, leave your home and travel to a safe place. You could stay with a friend or a family member, in a hotel or in an emergency shelter area.
●Stay inside during the storm. You could be seriously injured if you go outside.

Save the Earth!
Our Earth was healthy and beautiful in the past. However, now it's getting dirtier and warmer. Natural disasters happen more often than before. Animals and plants are in danger.
Why do all these happen First, there are more and more people on Earth. Second, people keep cutting down forests and killing animals for their fur, meat or bones. Moreover, people use too much energy.
What can we do to protect the Earth I think everybody can do something to help save the Earth. For example, we shouldn't eat wild animals. We should plant more trees. What's more, we should encourage people around us to save the Earth.
I hope our Earth will become more and more beautiful if we take action to protect it.
