Hello, everyone. I’d like to tell you something about the Chinese Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival comes on the 15th day of the first month, the Chinese lunar year. In the past, people called this month Yuan-month and called the night “Xiao”. The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon.
The Lantern Festival is also called Yuanxiao Festival because the most important celebrations happened at night. People hang up colourful lanterns, play games and gather with family and friends. People all eat sweet rice dumplings called Tangyuan. This word sounds like the same as another Chinese word meaning the family getting together. So the Lantern Festival is also a time for family to come together. Some of the lanterns have word games on them. Children are specially fun of finding answers to these games as they can get gifts for doing so.
