Without classes and exams, the summer vacation is an ideal time for Australian kids. For me, Nancy, it means much more than not going to school. It is also a golden chance (机会) to spend time with my family because I have little time with them during the school year.
Last summer vacation I travelled with my family to the Hawkesbury River in Western Sydney. It was one of the most unforgettable summer vacations in my life.
Staying by the river helps us escape (逃脱) from the hot weather and noise of the city. Every day, my family and I got up early to go swimming in the cool water. In the morning, we all took part in a big game. We enjoyed water-skiing, wakeboarding (尾波滑水) and other activities. These activities made our family feel closer.
In the warm afternoon, we peacefully (平静地) read books on hammocks hung among trees by the river. The days always ended with a campfire. We sat around the fire, talking and laughing.
The river is a perfect place for people to forget about all the stresses of life and simply enjoy the moment. To me, it is the perfect place to spend time together with my family. I can’t help thinking about those days again and again even though so many months has passed.

Last August, with the help of FHA, the family traveled to France with seven other families of Year 6 students. It was their first visit to France. In fact, it was their first holiday of any kind of five years.
“If I don’t work, I don’t get paid,” said Amelia’s father. “I hardly get home before 7:30 pm. We have little time to get together as a family. Thanks to FHA, we had a wonderful holiday last August.”
Family Holiday Association (FHA) is a charity. It helps around 2000 poor families a year to take a week’s holiday. “There are at least two and a half million British families who can’t pay for any kind of holiday,” said John McDonald, the leader of FHA.But if a family wants to get help from FHA, it should have had no holiday for four years and get money less than 26,000 a year.

I often dreamed about Pisa when I was a boy. I read about the famous building called the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But when I read the word Pisa, I was thinking of pizza. I thought this tower was a place to buy pizza. It must be the best place to buy pizza in the world, I thought.
Many years later I finally saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I then knew that it was Pisa and not pizza. But there was still something special about it for me. The tower got its name because it really did lean to one side. Some people want to try to fix it. They are afraid it may fall down and they don’t want it to lean over the city.
I do not think it’s a good idea to try to fix it. The tower probably will not fall down. It is 600 years old. Why should anything happen to it now And, if you ask me,I like what it looks like. Nothing is perfect. It seems to say.
And who cares Why do people want things to be perfect Imperfect things may be more interesting. Let’s take the tower in Pisa. Why is it so famous There are many other older, more beautiful towers in Italy. But the Leaning Tower of Pisa is the most famous. People come from all over the world to see it.

Dear classmates,
I'd like to talk about our discussion today. Our classmates have different plans for the coming summer holiday. About half of us will take part in social practice activities. About one fourth of us will go on a trip, and the other quarter will do some reading. I think teenagers need to take part in social practice activities, especially during the long holiday. It's really a good chance for us to know the society and improve ourselves. We can learn some useful skills which are not taught in school.
