The H1N1 epidemic(传染病)is creating a virtual(虚拟的)Mexico.
With school canceled nationwide and many parents stopping their kids from going to parties, teenagers are logging a lot more time chatting on the Internet and downloading music and movies from the Internet. So are many adults, especially after most business and government offices in Mexico City shut down on Friday for five days.
Two rock bands are trying reaching shut-in fans,
announcing a virtual concert for today. Los Estramboticos, a Mexico City group, and Pastilla, a Latino(拉丁美洲的)band from the United States, will perform in a studio and broadcast it online. At least they can get exposure while Mexico's ban on concerts goes on.
But boredom(厌烦)was still not enough to force many Mexican City citizens out of their homes on Sunday, 10 days into a flu outbreak that killed at least 22 people and sickened more than 560 in the country, most of them in the capital area.
Normally packed(挤满人的)churches were nearly empty. Priests in surgical masks offered mass before a few of faithful—also wearing masks. Cardinal(红衣主教)Norberto Rivera held a televised service from the Metropolitan Cathedral for those staying home.
Sunday also marked the official start of campaigning for the July 5 congressional elections, but the government asked candidates not to hold gatherings where the virus could spread. So candidates turned to the Internet to reach a population afraid to join screaming crowds, shake hands or hold out babies for kisses.
36. Which is the name of a band

B. Facebook
C. Metropolitan Cathedral
D. Mass

C. People in Mexico are afraid of others' kissing their babies during the H1N1 epidemic.
D. A large number of faithful believers wearing masks went to church to attend Mass held by priests during the H1N1 epidemic.
38. What is the best title of this passage
A. The H1N1 epidemic is creating a virtual Mexico.
B. Two rock bands are trying reaching shut-in fans.
C. The H1N1 epidemic.
D. The July 5 congressional elections.

One thing that really gets up my nose is breathing other people’s cigarette smoke against my will. It's about time that smoking in public places was stamped out once and for all.
There is nothing worse than coming home from a bar or club after an evening out and finding that your clothes smell disgusting, because they have been saturated(浸透着)with cigarette smoke.
Cigarette smoke. I'm not the only one who is born with this and I'm not some born nonsmoker. I just wish that I had a choice whether or not I came home smelling like a dirty ashtray.
Another thing that I really hate is walking down the street behind someone smoking a cigarette. Every time they breathe, out comes that cloud of stale smoke and you talk straight into it and aside from crossing over the other side of the street. There is very little you can do about it. It is not a pleasant experience and it is one I could live quite happily without.
I know there are a lot of people in this country that smoke. I'll be willing to bet that someone who are reading this article are fed up with people who don't smoke. They are always harping on(唠叨)about their "bad habit" and telling them what to do. The simple fact is that smokers are affecting the health of nonsmokers as well as their own.
People die each year just because they have breathed other people's smoke and that is something we really should be taking seriously. In my opinion an outright ban on smoking in public places is the only way forward.
39. The underlined phrase "gets up my nose" in the first sentence means“_______”.
A. smells something out
B. looks up at the sky
C. turns one's nose towards something
D. makes somebody angry

A. is not willing to come home from a bar or club late at night

41. The author is strongly against_______.
A. smoking behind someone while walking down the streets
B. breathing in cigarette smoke others have breathed out when walking on the streets
C. a life without cigarettes
D. walking across the street but there is nothing he can do
42. The best title for the passage is_______.
A. Smoking Should Be Banned in Public Places
B. Smoking Is Bad to Smokers and Nonsmokers
C. Smoking Is Disgusting
D. Smoking Is a Bad Habit

People believe that climbing can do good to health Where can you learn the skill of climbing then If you think that you have to go to the mountains to learn how to climb, you’re wrong.
Many Americans are learning to climb in city gyms(体育馆).Here, people are learning on special climbing walls. The climbing wall goes straight up and has small holding places for hands and feet.
How do people climb the wall To climb, you need special shoes and a harness(保护带)around your chest to hold you. There are ropes(绳索)tied to your harness. The ropes hold you in place so that you don't fall. A beginner's wall is usually about 15 feet high, and you climb straight up. There are small pieces of metal that stick out for you to stand on and hold on to. Sometimes it's easy to see the next piece of metal. Sometimes, it's not. The most difficult part is to control your fear. It's normal for humans to be afraid of falling, so it's difficult not to feel fear. But when you move away from the wall, the harness and the ropes hold you, and you begin to feel safe. You move slowly until you reach the top.
Climbing attracts people because it's good exercise for almost everyone. You use your whole body, especially your arms and legs. This sport gives your body a complete workout. When you climb, both your mind and your body can become stronger.

A. settlement B. exercise
C. excitement D. tiredness
46. Why does the author write this passage
A. To tell people where to find gyms.
B. To prove the basic need for climbing.
C. To encourage people to climb mountains.
D. To introduce the sport of wall climbing.

When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farm and in the winter especially, we were quite cut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital. However, I soon discovered that city life has its problems too.
One big disadvantage is money—It costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘),and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.
Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment(娱乐活动). Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising-and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.
Is life better then, in the city Perhaps it is,when you are in your teens or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon.

Many students find it hard to make friends when they are in high school. Keeping my suggestions in mind may give you a hand. They certainly helped me, and by the end of my three years of high school, I had formed my group of friends, with whom I still keep in touch now.
Here are my tips:
Say hello anytime I see an acquaintance(相识的人).
Because I was always smiling and greeting the people I knew, people naturally thought I was friendly(though I am not naturally sociable). And high school students want to be friends with sociable people.
Take the first step.
All the girls there already knew each other—they didn't need another friend. But I did, so I had to make the effort. I had to be the first one to invite somebody to go to a movie with me, or come to my house. Once I did that they started to respond(回应)with the same thing.
Use classes to get to know people.
I met most of my first friends because I sat next to them in class. Class (before, after, or even during class time) is a great opportunity to begin a conversation. For example, ask for help about homework.
Make friends slowly.
I couldn't get discouraged when it took a while to make friends. It really takes some time to make new friends. In a word,_______.
Above all, remember that it can and will get better. You may have to work a little to make your high school experience a great one, but it's really worth(值得)it!

"A child in the street is a child that has been exposed(暴露)to a lot of bad things. And this child has no love at all. This child has no respect(尊重) for himself. He sees everybody as an enemy, and he can't trust anyone."
Who is Moses Zulu talking about Are there even people who live like that Sadly, in truth, there are. They happen to be the Zambian children that Moses Zulu helps to improve their lives. Zulu does his best to give many children hope to live even though they might have AIDS. Without his continuous work through his organization called Children's Town, many Zambian children would have been forced to survive(生存)in an African city by getting a job as a street vendor(街头小贩),or hurting other people.
In 1990, Moses Zulu founded Children's Town in
Zambia, where one million children have no parents, largely because of AIDS. Children's Town teaches children basic life skills needed for their future. Each child goes through a five-year training program where they' re taught responsibility(责任), values, and self-care. Zulu's Children's Town provides hope for less fortunate children.
As we all know, a hero is any person who is respected for his qualities and achievements. There are not many people who are willing to help others in need. Zulu’s contribution to today's modern society teaches us to lend a helping hand to others who are not as lucky as we are. He teaches us to make a difference in the world by helping others.
And from now on, if ever you throw away your banana just because it looks bad, well, remember that a group of people, suffering from AIDS, homelessness, of other causes, would fight with each other just to get their hands on a single bad banana.

Zulu ______.
A. a teacher B. a doctor
C. a hero D. a fighter
43. In the last two paragraphs, the author advises us to ______.
A. plant more bananas
B. make use of bad food
C. invent medicine for AIDS
D. help poor people

Old tennis balls are being used in an unusual way to help us learn more about one of the rarest mammals(哺乳动物)in the country.
Harvest mice are only about 2 inches (5 cm) long. This spring and summer, wildlife experts are encouraging people to report sightings of harvest mice so that records can be built up about numbers and locations can be made.
Meadows and grassland are animals' traditional homes but as farming methods change over time, the habitats are being lost and numbers are thought to be declining.
Old tennis balls, complete with penny-sized holes, make a strong and popular choice of homes for the mice and around 200 are available for surveyors to distribute and monitor, after being donated by a local tennis club.
The project, supported by the Leicestershire County Council, is thought to be the biggest of its kind ever run in Leicestershire.
County Council wildlife expert, Helen O'Brien, said, "Little is known about the creatures’ present situation locally so we need people to look in tall grass and fields and send in their information. The information will help us track numbers and tell us where we need to focus our attention to safeguard(保障)their future.”
Anyone interested in getting involved(参与), can pick up tips and learn more about harvest mice on a training day. This is taking place between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, 14th June at the County Council's Environmental Resource Centre in Birstall. People living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can get involved with the survey or book a place on the training day by calling Gareth Price at

Our school lies on the foot of a mountain with a small river passes by. It used to be a quiet, clean and beautiful place for a school. IV. 48~52 EBCGA
V.1.将第一句中的on改为at。at the foot of是固定词组,意为“在……脚下”。
2.将第一句中的passes改为passing。该句涉及“with+名词+动词-ing形式”的结构,passing和river是主动关系。
3.将第三句中的which改为that。It is a pity that...
