Leaving a good impression can be done in different ways, from clothing to posture, and from talking style to body language.Below are several tips for you to begin with:
Physical appearance matters. We’re visual creatures after all.
Physical appearance is the first clue one relies on to judge who we are. 1 It also means the person means something to us by dressing properly. If it is a business setting,be aware of the dress rule or culture. 2 A thumbs-up here does not mean the same elsewhere. So do the research!Details from any little areas will affect the impression on the whole.
3
A fake(假的) smile can potentially do more harm than good in our attempts to leave a good impression. It is understandable that sometimes it is hard to suddenly force a smile. 4 Remember being positive plays an important part in shaping our first impression.
Look into people’s eyes until you see the colors of their iris(虹膜).
Keeping eye contact delivers a sense of friendship to the people we interact with.Consequently, they feel more connected to us and tend to be more positive toward the interaction. 5 Well, try to identify the color of the others’ irises.Get it?That makes a good eye contact example.
Are these the impressions we want to leave?Stop staring at the ground and look at people in the eye then!
A.What makes a quality eye contact
B.How does eye contact affect interaction
C.The requirement varies from culture to culture.
D.Then at least try not to look discouraging and angry!
E.Don’t fake a smile,or people will doubt your sincerity.
F.Always smile while interacting with others, especially with a new friend.
G.Besides,it is a way to show respect by choosing appropriate clothes for different settings.
1.答案 G
解析 结合本段小标题及空后的“It also means...rule or culture.”
2.答案 C
解析 根据空后的“A thumbs-up here...do the research!”
5.答案 A
根据空后的“try to identify the color of the others’ irises”可知,设空处应该与如何进行目光交流有关。

It’s quite impressive to see Canada geese flying into the clouds. They live to be around 25 years old and are very loyal. They never forget their first home.No one knows this more than my family.
In 2000,when I was seven,my parents and I came back from a T-ball game one late spring afternoon. To our surprise, two adult geese and a baby goose were in our driveway(车库前的私人车道).The adults were shocked by us and flew away, but their baby was too young to fly and couldn’t follow. We are no strangers to the ways of wildlife,so we knew to avoid contact with the baby, hoping he could join his parents.
Hours passed, and night fell. The tiny little thing was wandering around our yard, unaware of what could happen. It was clear that the baby needed protection, warmth, and food to make it to the morning,so we brought him onto our back porch(门廊) and set up a wire fence to enclose and protect him.
We all pretty much slept with one eye open till morning. And then another morning. And another. Each day,we tried eagerly to get the baby back to his parents, who kept coming to our yard.He wouldn’t go to them, though, and they wouldn’t come close enough to claim him.The baby goose had clearly decided we were his new family and we gave him a name—Peeper, because he would follow us around the yard making a peeping(唧唧叫) noise, nonstop.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, until almost a year passed.Peeper slept on our back porch in typical goose fashion.Every day,my dad would clear his droppings with water and throw him up into the air,so he could fly a loop around the house, coming back again once the porch was clean.
One evening,my uncle was over, and my dad wanted to show him Peeper’s loop.
It came as a shock 20 years later when an aging adult goose made his way back to my yard.
One evening,my uncle was over, and my dad wanted to show him Peeper’s loop. But this time,Peeper just flew off.Everyone was very, very sad.It was dark, and we were worried. We looked for him for days calling his name, but he didn’t come back.We hoped he went off on his natural way.Again, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, then years.I missed Peeper.I would call for him every time I saw a group of geese flying by in V-formation.Twenty years passed, and Peeper became a happy memory for family.
It came as a shock 20 years later when an aging adult goose made his way back to my yard.At first,I thought it was just another goose. And yet, something about him seemed strangely familiar to me.The goose came back repeatedly. He did all of the same things Peeper used to,like trying to come in through the front door and sleeping in our back porch.Besides this goose responded to the name Peeper.Much to my surprise,my old friend returned,20 years later.Unit 1 Using Language 课时练习
